Modes WARNING: A new type of trolling.... (MOVING TO MOBIUS)

As usual, victim abuse runs rampant...

I sometimes wonder what sort of miserable lives people who have nothing better to do with their lives than rub salt in the wounds of other players must live, but then I decide that I already have examples.

The sad thing is, having rushed to kick the puppy, they will tell me it that they aren't miserable at all.

Indeed,

The usual suspects rush in to whine their usual refrain of "you did it wrong", "git gud" in response to a perfectly reasonable post.

I wonder how many players come to the forums and lurk, only to be put from ever posting or participating by these people?

so repetitive. so predictable.

Rep to the OP, nothing but disdain to every "it's your own fault" whiner.

I would disagree with that quite strongly. I'm afraid. There is something malicious about this troll who is hiding out of sight near the slot with no shields, then putting deliberately putting themselves in your path when you both come in and go out. It's like a kamikaze attempt at trolling! What a joke.

I'm unconvinced here. Somebody do a trial - take a sidey, equip no shields, bash it off the side of station once to get your hull down to below 50% and jump out on another player. See what happens.

Do you have any actual arguments against these claims? FD specifically place a mechanism to protect players against these trolls. It works 100%. Why not blame cmdrs who chose not to use it, and instead blame others? Heck, noone tells the OP to 'git gud', we just tell him to slow the heck down. As your HUD tells you. As the station announcer tells you. As we tell you. Feel free to ignore it, but do take some responsibility if you do. Same goes for all of us.

FDEV catered to you and put the speed limit for a reason. OPs fault for not following the speed limit and killing a poor cmdr stuck near the station entrance.

If the 'target' is speeding he'll be wanted. If the target is not speeding you'll just die. There is no mystery. Slow down and you're perfectly safe. Dont slow down and you may be in trouble. Hence the station announcers, who have been telling people to slow down since this mechanism was implemented. OP is just silly. :)

Definately some form of Insurance Fraud to say the least. But yes, this is why I keep my landing gear out and down, and only have two pips at the most in my engines so I physically cant throttle past 90 m/s till I clear the slot and get away from the station, then gear up, 4 pips to engines and boost away.

Since FD put the speed limit in place, every cmdr is perfectly safe from this kind of trolling. More daring cmdrs can chose to ignore the limit and risk their ships, if they so want. Irresponsible cmdrs risk chose to break the limit, risk their ship and blame others. FD put a 100% bullet proof anti-troll mechanism in place, and it works absolutely every single time. If you are willing to take responsibility for your own actions and your ship, that is. There simply is no denying it.

I'm afraid redirecting the blame onto the targets of harassment won't work on me. The speed limit is a good deterrent (and provider of consequence) to reckless flying where you might accidentally destroy another ship being flown in a legitimate manner. But malicious players who exploit game mechanics to grief are not absolved of responsibility for their actions because their targets could have been doing something differently.

Lolwut?

Did the cmdr commit anything disallowed in game? What are you going to report him about? About speeding?

PG? SOLO? Space engine? You have other options.

It's FDEV's call let them decide, like the block function itself. 100% guaranteed to clean up even the trickiest of Coriolis's.

Blocking works, it's also forever. Purge the unclean.

Sure, the malicious player is a bunghole. I wouldnt hold it against anyone if they'd block him. But this whole 'it wasn't my fault other people are evil!' complaining is antithetical to the Elite universe. This is a game, and it is your job (especially in anarchy) to be mindful of all kinds of nasty people and NPCs. This is easy to spot. It is easy to counter. So the best thing to do is just be sensible. Of course the 'griefer' is 'responsible', but who cares.

Really, imagine how the elite novels would be if the main characters were like the OP. God, it would be terrible. Just hundreds of pages of "thats not fair!". ;)

100km/s speed limit was introduced PURELY FOR THIS REASON

It's your fault for not obeying the law. It even pops up saying 'SPEEDING' when you're going too fast. What if it was a new player in a sidewinder or eagle?

This is nothing new, you're late to the party. The best part is you did it 3 times before complaining on the forums.

If you fly at 99 and someone runs into you and dies, nothing happens. You keep flying and they explode.

OP has just discovered that this place is not known for its sympathy, so never expect any! For it to happen twice to you does suggest a tad of carelessness on your part?

Mistakes in the ED universe are oft punished by death. It's generally interpreted in a black and white way, which mirrors the black and white thinkers that tend to populate the board. It is what it is, and they are always In The Right. How could they not be? :D

A beginner's ship is perfect for experimenting in. If anything goes wrong - restart. All the speeding mistakes 'should' be made at this point in the game. I made as many as I could when it was free to do so.

Your tone absolutely blows mate. The problem here is that this player was blocking / hiding in the only way into the mail slot and repeated it twice within a matter of minutes. It's not crying out unfair gameplay because I was beaten in combat twice in a row, or combat logged or whatever. It's because I was half way through the mail slot - the only way to dock! Then going out too! It's a post about a very obvious gameplay mechanic troll not a post about throwing toys out the pram. So please, dial it down kid.

No, the OP is saying what the hell do you do about gameplay trolls?

First, I'd argue 100m/s is way to slow. Seriously, feels like it takes forever. Needs to be increased, 150 at least. But even so, why on earth is a 250 credit fine cause for a death sentence. Come on. It's like getting busted going 35 in a 30 zone, the cop walks up, shots you in the side of the head and then sets your car on fire. And then a bunch of you guys comment on the obituary, "Shouldn't have sped! Your fault!"

The 100m/s is a pseudo-solution that replaced the previous method of griefing (ramming others directly to death) with a more insidiuous one. And it's not even as if this method of griefing came to anyone's surprise; well, except FD, apparently, because they ignored every single warning that predicted that exactly this would happen as a result.

Frontier didn't ignore it since they added the 100m/s limit precisely to give players a simple way out of the obvious abuses that always come with any mechanic assigning blame for collisions.

What would you do if suddenly those space pixels vanish in front of you?

I suspect that suddenly those space pixels are really important…

Of course I'd be miffed. On the other hand I certainly wouldn't play the armchair psychiatrist.

OP, if you want to get even, post a thread explaining why you're leaving open for Mobius. I can guarantee you that you'll get revenge on the idiot on the sidey and everyone on this thread siding with him.

Regardless of the speed limit being there or not, there is some troll hiding about in the mail slot with no shields -- whatcha gonna do about it?
