Why is my escape vector always *towards* the planet?

Hey all,

I've noticed something rather annoying...

Every single time I've been interdicted when near to my target planet, the "Escape Vector" always ends up being towards said planet? Needless to say, even if I escape I end up exiting FSD due to my proximity.

Is this a bug or an oversight on the developers part? I generally escape interdictions just fine when in deep space, but near a planet it always sends me towards it. My choices are basically submit, actually fail the interdiction mini-game, or "win" but nearly crash into the planet.

Am I missing something here? Is there a trick to avoiding interdictions when near a planet? I mean, if I don't follow the escape vector I simply loose the mini-game.

The escape vector tends to change as you and the enemy are jockeying for position. It's inevitably going to end up towards the planet at some point, especially if you're close to it as it is, and headed towards it. It's not an oversight, it's just a result of where you are at the time, and the direction you were in when the interdiction began.

Best thing to do in most cases is probably submit, boost like hell, and jump back out again.

Thanks. I think your submit and boost suggestions is likely the best. I generally fight an interdiction as I'm in an unarmed Type 7. However, it can likely out run the average NPC I'd hope....we'll see what happens on my next encounter :)

Being able to move towards a planet during the interdiction minigame is ideal. Entering orbital cruise automatically causes the interdiction to fail.

Note that you don't HAVE to drive right to the target vector. You can steer into orbital cruise (often, at least) before you lose the interdiction.

Yeah, because it's somewhat difficult to maintain an interdiction tether whilst crashing sideways into a planet at a significant fraction of c, as I did twice this weekend whilst being interdicted. I was OK with it, I felt a bit sorry for the 120 or so refugees and aid workers in the back though. :D

Yeah, great. Exploit. lol

Please tell me this is supposed to be some form of joke? If not, get a grip on reality.

Just wanted to say that I seem to always get sent away from a planet, its like they know it's there and the interdiction always takes me off to the side. I get interdicted a LOT, and very often next to planets as I approach targets, and I think only twice out of perhaps 100 I've been pushed into the exclusion zone. RNG sure is random in this game.

Its yet another NPC advantage thing.
If you try to interdict them you fail because "too close to planet", but when they do it to you you get thrown into an emergency stop.

The escape vector is imaging that scene from Lost in Space where they go through the planet as it's breaking up.

It had delusions of grandeur. Lol

Next time this happens, try NOT avoiding the planet . . .

Heh, that's actually what I do - I continue to follow the escape vector, then I exit super cruise & take some hull damage due to proximity. However, I do avoid the interdiction of course. I guess I just thought it a bit odd and I also expected to take more damage exiting as I did.

I was thinking it'd be good if my escape vector involved me actually staying on target for my planned destination and maintaining speed, all the while being pulled all over the place by the Interdictor. I mean, several times now - while being interdicted - I've been within both the distance and speed requirements to safe exit at my destination, but that's not possible and I'm stuck in the mini-game.

I'm learning how to work with this mechanic of course, but it does seem silly at times.
