Why the hate for playing in open?

I would like to know where you guys find all this pvp activity. I usually only encounter players in CGs and Maia, but reading the stories here it seems that the universe is infested with evil players

Reading the stories here, it seems the universe is infested with players (good or evil). Most I saw at Grant Dock this weekend was four at any given time.

Or if you want to to avoid PVP'ers and still want human interaction join a PG. In my PG there was 12 CMDR's in the station chatting it up. About 8 CMDR's at the Has Res. about 5 - 10 just cruising around the system This was all at the CG. On normal days just putzing around the bubble I see about 8 - 10 CMDRs a day.

I think a lot of people moved to PG's because of Murderhobos. I see a lot more people in Mobius then open anymore.

As i said... CG or Maia, if you want to avoid pvp, avoid these popular places.

Cool, so are you saying that people should play in Open anyway, but just not contribute to CGs or visit anywhere that might be interesting or fun to be at, like Guardian sites, Thargoid settlements, etc?

Did i said "you should play in open"? Sorry but I'm not worried about who plays in the open or in the private. If all of you want to play in private and leave the galaxy free for me, thank you. What I want to say is that these grief / gank stories happen where they (gankers) are supposed to appear. As for going or not going to an "interesting" place ... Rio de Janeiro is a dangerous place, go visit if you want but take the consequences of your choices. (sorry for my english)

So, you are saying you are a murderhobo in Rio also and we should be mindful of our surroundings.....lol

When I played in open I get ganked in any of the main bubble hub systems., I get ganked in Maia, I get ganked at any engineer systems. Pretty much anywhere where any of the games ideal content is, so I either PVP cause you guys think we are your game content or we just dont go to any of these places in open.

Got it. I'll stick with PG thanks.

Have you honestly been ganked on PS4 in all these locations? I have been "attacked" quite a few times now, I have always escaped though from these gank attempts. I am not saying I always will escape, I am sure one of these days my luck will run out.

On the flip side I totally accept that you don’t always want to deal with that, I know I don’t. PG is totally fine way to play. I am not sure I would be happy personally playing 100% in a private group as it loses some of the excitement, sometimes it’s actually fun trying to avoid these murderhobos. Sometimes it’s totally not and you just want a relaxing time this is when I use Solo/PG.

I never honestly understand these circle debates of modes of play (they just go around in an endless loop). At the end of the day people have a choice to play whatever mode they want. That’s a good thing. 

Apologies on my end for how far out of whack this thread got. Consider it a noob part on my end I guess for starting it. Never wanted to divide everyone up, just was looking for some reasons why people had such animosity and disdain when they discussed open play as I hadn't seen any of the griefers to this point. I believe I've more than found my reasons, not that I agree with them all but I'd say almost everyone had a valid reason for playing PG or solo or open.

I think the most interesting aspect is understanding the cross contribution on the forum amongst the different platforms for the game. This was something I truly didn't expect.

You didn't. This divide has been for quite some time. It's not new. Every thread that mentions Open or Close or PG will automatically just bring up the same discussion. :D It's the thing players here love to hate.

The problem comes from that the whole idea of PvP is in strong conflict with PvE. Traders, miners, explorers don't want to be shot down for no good reasons. PvP players want to be able to shoot at each other to change BGS, PP, and such. So it's two very different mindsets that collide. And the game is trying to allow both.

15 pages in, so not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but if i had ED on my PS4, i wouldn't be able to play in open even if i wanted to, because i don't subscribe to the playstation service thingy whatyoumacallit.

Its rare i go into open on PC either, but that's because i want a PvE game only. If people want to PvP, its their choice, they can do that in Open.

That's fair and completely understandable. Are you playing on PS4 or PC? It seems like several on this post on PS4 haven't run across that yet. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but at this time there seem to be very few. Matter of fact I was in Maia with a 400k bounty and was left alone. Actually was hailed by 5 different cmdrs just saying hello.

I play on PC, was on the ground a while back when the alien crash sites were first discovered, and a few of us had our ships shot up on the ground, and we were playing in a private group, so not even private groups are 100% safe (I was sanctioned too on here for namin and shaming lol)

I'd like some input here as someone who exclusively plays in open. I constantly read while perusing the forums people stating they only play solo or PG and that they won't even bother with open. What's the deal? Are people that afraid of losing their ship and ending back at the rebuy? I get dropping to solo if you can't get a parking spot at a CG or something like that, but to completely ignore he entire galaxy out there seems to go against what this game means.

There is no hate for playing in open, only for gankers and scum. Also, Elite originally was a single player game, so claiming that it 'go against what this game means' is a bit off IMHO. Personally, i just dont care about open, period.

===8<--- What I want to say is that these grief / gank stories happen where they (gankers) are supposed to appear. --->8===

Supposed to appear? Seriously?

Can appear, sure. No argument whatsoever. An armed robber willing to murder can show up on pretty much any street corner anywhere in the world. The same is true for serial killers. Supposed to appear? Not so much.

I'm wondering where you find someone who is not an armed robber willing to murder, or a serial killer, who thinks such creatures are supposed to exist at all.
