Star Citizen Discussions v7

Immense fun awaits on the barren surface.

Versus all the fun of say most of the moons/planets in Elite? Especially if you don't have a SRV?

Some moons/planets are going to be barren, flat and void of much of anything, just like some moons/planets in you know, the real universe... Some are not.

I thought the point of Star Citizen was that they’d make it almost ThemePark-level of interaction and fun. Everything would be hand-crafted with amazing sheer-cliffs and narrow canyons and I don’t know.. huge Volcanos and caves. Where’s all of that? Where’s ANY of that? We saw a screenshot once where the player was standing at the top of this enormous canyon looking straight down, and it was impressive looking, but if each planet only has one or two interesting sights and the rest of the planet is flat and barren... well, there’s nothing wrong with realism, I appreciate the realism in Elite, but SC already threw that out the window with the 1/4-1/10 thing.

I should reserve judgement, maybe the other moon is amazing and we can do canyon races and it’ll be great fun on that one. Just seems to be the theme with SC, no matter what we get it’s always the wrong one, the NEXT one is the amazing one.

3.1 is The Magic Network Fix. That is when the Magic Germans sprinkle the network code with fairy dust and dried unicorn droppings.

It shouldn't be that difficult to put in "viable" MMO suitable netcode.

The trouble will be making it effective enough and efficient enough to fulfil the promises CIG are making. VOIP and FOIP and 1000 player instances.....

Trouble is once you get the netcode into the game you start setting limits on what the engine can do. You can't go promising 1000 player instances AND blame the netcode for the slow performance AND you have to start building the game around what the netcode can handle instead of unrealistic hopes and fantasy dreams.

Of course, most of this should have been built into the game from scratch....makes me wonder if part of the delay is a recoding for different player limits within the netcode than originally planned.

1000 player? That's nothing. Let Erin Roberts enlighten you.......

So with the next big release a lot of the underlying game is there and then we can look at transferring people between servers so we can have hundreds of thousands of people maybe in one instance, but that doesn’t come online until later.

Taken from here.....

Edit: Notice the use of the word "maybe". Citizens tend to not spot words like that.

So....your garage knows of a part that is closer than "24 hours" but is not willing to order it in for you?

Sure I don't see a problem there . Wait for it to be delivered or take a ship and go get it yourself thus speeding up the process.
@red Anders fair enough we disagree and that is cool. So long as I am not losing ships let right and centre I have no issue having to stop doing exactly what I want for an hr in game due to me losing a ship for the sake of "immersion"

To each their own. Of course I am theory crafting myself it will be less cool imo if it's just a timer for the sake of a timer and the way to speed up the process is not gameplay but a lootbox (for instance)

I don't think it can work.

You have a two hour wait for your ship....30 minutes if you pay...

What do you do in the meantime is important, but giving you a loaner ship doesn't appear to be too likely, nor beneficial.

This is depriving the player of gametime, and ensuring he is forced into gameplay he does not necessarily want and with PvP likely to be common, this isn't likely to be a rare situation, especially with rumours of full body looting and situations where you can lose all your gear.

There does not seem to be an upside to this idea, and it strikes me as coming from yet another one of Chris Roberts terrible gameplay fantasies

Yeah you may be right I am just trying to keep open mind. It could defo work in ED tho imo.

Just a quick reminder that this is the Star Citizen thread. The rest of the forum is about Elite Dangerous.

It's impressive to behold the mental juggling involved when SC content is "amazing" even though they've already stated the same thing in other games is most definitely "boring". Yeah, they're starved of stuff so it's 'cool', I get that. But I suspect there's going to have to be a large re-jigging of expectations along a downward slope when it eventually arrives. Or maybe not.

Point being that this gameplay is more than a bit unrealistic but more importantly introduces several more gameplay and balance issues which would need to be addressed.

This waiting period is not a good gameplay mechanic.

I suspect that most Citizens are going to maintain their sense of denial, on forums at least. Back in their basements, they'll sit there forlornly as they rack up 15fps while flying over a deserted landscape, saying repeatedly to themselves "it was never meant to be l like this".
