Star Citizen Discussions v7

Which "you"? In-game "you" still sits in the chair, evidenced by the fact that "your" in-game body can steer the ship while "you" admire the rivets on the other side of the cockpit, real "you" stares at a screen really close to your face while walking around "your" room. Also, this is an immensely stupid discussion.

This is the SC topic, where only blind fanaticism in either direction works. No sane person, including FD, claims ed has spacelegs. You cant walk around, you can move the camera. Only people in this topic will claim otherwise. :p

walking around in an FPS engine is not made by shifting the camera position?

Plus moving the character. Walking, by definition, means the character goes from a to b. Your character doesnt move. He is not walking. I can play the witcher whike riding a bike, dont mean the witcher has bikes in it...

It has been made very clear what I was talking about.

It is absolutely necessary, for the peace and safety of mankind, that some of earth's dark, dead corners and unplumbed depths be left alone; lest sleeping abnormalities wake to resurgent life, and blasphemously surviving nightmares squirm and splash out of their black lairs to newer and wider conquests.

No. Walking around in an FPS engine is moving your character along with, let's say, the point the projectiles are spawned from, the point from which the game ray-casts to check if your character is detected by enemies, the origin point of your character's hitboxes, the point that is used to check if your character is in range of an interaction point, and, finally, with the point your viewpoint is rendered from, i.e. - camera. By your (and 1500's and few other people) logic ED has EVA gameplay because the vanity camera moves on the outside of the ship. By that logic you can fly in every single game with floating camera (RTSes, top/down RPGs and so on).

Edit: Also this is my last post on the topic, as I can feel moderation's consciousness waking up to the presence of my offtopic, and that's a terrible feeling to behold.

This looks like CR saw the The Band of the Bold videos and decided: "THIS is the way people will walk around in the future!" and coded the new animations in himself! :D

Nope. Please site a post were I claiming it was gameplay.

I like how you made up logic that no one else said, and then tried to claim others said it.

So by YOUR made up logic ED has EVA, not anyone else.

You. You literally said you can walk around your cockpit. That means spacelegs. Your character cannot walk around anything, and you can walk around your house. Noone walks around the cockpit. You can move a camera around in the cockpit.

And this is why sc reddit laughs at this topic as much as we laugh at them. its an insanely stupid discussion. Absolutely boggles tge mind. Anyway, believe what you will, wont respond to this nonsense again.

Nope. I said you can physically walk around the cockpit of your ship in VR. And you can, I can put on a VR headset and physically walk around moving what I see by my actions of walking. This is not a hard concept and should be understood by most people. Only in this thread is a common phrase involving VR twisted to mean something else. Perhaps it is because SC will not ever have VR and as such these people have not bothered to learn anything about it.

I never said the character walked around the ship, that is something you made up. Or you do not understand VR. Either way.

So in other words, you can't actually site a post of me claiming ED has space legs.

Ha, yes!

Can't you guys see, say -- Alec Meer droning on about that? "The primordial, endlessly shifting forms of CIG's Star Horror are a marvel to behold. CIG has finally stumbled on a successful formula to present the sheer unsettling ALIEN-NESS of well, aliens." Alice O'Connor: "Noodle-em-up Star Horror blah blah blah. Insert cutesy thing here."

Indie cred to be had, devs! Go for it.

This is possible only because Chris is such a PERFECTIONIST,we all know the he NEVER ever will allowed us to experience anything that is not ready&polished.....[haha]

This true as I have done it myself. Looking at your beheaded avatar is a bit weird though.

I suggest just keeping it factual. Trying to tie facts to gameplay is a subjective thing and each person will have their own opinion of what constitutes gameplay, none of which should be said to be wrong, just different.

So keeping to the facts...

VR in ED allows you to:
Walk around in the real world to change your camera view in the ED virtual world.

VR in SC allows you to:
Do nothing.

It is a stupid discussion, I agree, because it is grossly off topic and just playing word games over what walking means in a video game.

No one said ED has space legs, what I and others have said is that you can walk around your cockpit when using VR and this is factually demonstrably true. No one said it was on comparison to what space legs would offer, just that it is doable. Which it is. I do it all the time.

SC, meanwhile, has space legs.. and a point and click flight model... and glitches. Not much else though.

Not quite sure what you are playing because in the CURRENT public Alpha (2.6.x) you can fly around, in real game that exists dozens of different ships.

But not in a real game...just a glorified tech demo of a game that is in preAlpha.

Why aren't you complaining that CIG are pretending this is an Alpha build?

Nope, I cannot put my Rift/Vive etc on with SC yet.

Yet? Star Citizens VR support was cancelled quite some time ago.

But I can fully explore the ships in game, including the larger ones.

I think you missed the point.

First...you cannot "explore" the ships. You can merely walk around them
Second...for all you talk about fitting weapons and refuelling, all of that is 'makework'. Just there to give you something to do. To a degree there is nothing wrong with this, but in a game these types of activity get real old real fast. You can do pretty much the same things in ED and other games.

don't feel like spending the dozens of hours doing boring grinds to make the space bucks

What makes you think the boring grinds in SC will be any less boring? Or is it the fact you can pay money to skip sections of the game makint up for that?

Lovecraftian. New England horror style. I kinda like it.
