Elite Dangerous is the Largest Empty Sandbox Ever Made

And I'm not even talking about that (although the extra pip idea is good - it remove a blatant advantage), I'm talking about exploration, trading, USSs, POIs, all the things that people do when they're not shooting at NPCs or other players.

Combat is *at best* 1/3rd of this game. Let's show the the other 2/3rds some love first, eh?

Well we got even better graphics coming with exploration. Something Id like to personally see is Science Modules. Kind of like Kerbal Space Program. But different, You could test materials, Find new material. If im going to really go exploring and not just travel, Id like to see something from star trek. You know how they always ran into some unique scenarios that required problem solving? Or random alien races they had to work for. I think that would be neat.

But thats all added stuff. Id like to see everything we have now fixed and working properly and not half used.

But I am with you, I dread travel or exploring. There doesnt need to be something every time I jump. But Id like to go to specific known areas of curiosity. Kind of like how Maia started out with Barnacles. Just different off in the distance.

POI's give me a real search and rescue mission. Ill take a passenger cabin with me just for that. A lot of that could be way deeper.

Ship transfers was 70/30 and not 85/15. The majority was also for delayed transfers, which is what FDEV implemented.

Couldn't recall the majority, but remembered it was enough to be classified as a landslide if it was a parliamentary election :)

Those that wanted instant transfer still complain about it though.

tbh an extra pip is a cheap way of doing it imo...... where does this "pip" come from?.

imo it would be better like in the DDF, where depending on what crew you have and what rank they are will give you subtle increases. a "pip" is too binary and has no context.

i would suggest balancing it by pulling back some of the engineer effects which are, imo, totally out there. the G5 engineered shields for instance are not tweaked, they are magic!.

Well alot of that has to do with Skill Boosters. The shields by themselves are just fine. They really should have went through them changes.

I did lobby a lot for delayed transfers but today I would prefer instant transfer for modules (not for ships though) ;)

Solution:

Very hard encounters behind enemy lines (large Thargoid ships)
Normal encounters at the borders (mostly medium Thargoid ships)
Easy encounters in the bubble (mostly scout Thargoid ships)

Clap, clap clap !

Now add in a nasty sphere with three levels of red in the PP map to represent it, and an indicator in the HUD.

Make it expand each week a little and there we go : creeping doom, invasion and motivation to improve while having
the choice to play refugee otherwise ^^

Expand this for normal NPC encounters in High, Medium, Low and Anarchy states.

Oh good.

Because I figured Frontier resolved the issue by keeping the Thargoids localized to one area. If CMDRs aren't up to the task, they can avoid them.

Still, wouldn't mind them raiding the Bubble now and again.

You take that back! [mad]

I knew the Voice of Open, I jousted with the Voice of Open, the Voice of Open was a friend of mine. 90s is no Voice of Open ..... Senator!

Nah im the Voice of Reason.

That is an excellent idea. A front that moves back and forth depending on wins and losses.

The only decision I'd have to make is: how much do I want to see the Bubble burn?

As for how the game has been received overall - well, that's going to be coloured by the almost skeleton-like base mechanics that have basically not changed since December 16th 2014. I'm talking about Trading, Exploring, and the obviously dead-at-birth Piracy and Bounty-Hunting mechanics, all of which haven't seen any improvement in almost 4 years since initial release.

This might come across as being over negative/critical but so be it. The fact is it's ALL been dead at birth, I cant think of single thing that's been added to the game that has been finished. ED is an example of a game that is made of up stage one development progress on practically every aspect. There are many aspects for sure but none of them offer anything but the very basic of player interaction / involvement and every one of them involves either RNG, Grind or god help us RNG and Grind.

It sort of feels like its been put together by hundreds of teams who are all disconnected from each other because rarely does one "role" effect another. I look back at everything that has been added over the years from PP to engineers to Multicrew to planetary landing to guardians to thargoids and every one of them feels like its been introduced like this (in the style of V20 basic);

10 HYPE=1
20 MEGA HYPE=100
30 BETA
40 CRUSHING REVELATION DURING BETA=100%
50 PROMISE TO CONTINUE WORK ON IT=0
60 RELEASE
70 DROP IT LIKE A HOT POTATO=1
80 CREATE NEW IDEA FROM POOL
90 GOTO 10

Its criminal when you compare what power play could have been, what engineers could have been to what they actually are.
I get that this next year will see the release of Beyond which is claimed to address some of that but for many its probably too late, the goose is cooked and we've moved on. Its nearly 9 months since I've bothered to launch the game, i have no idea where we are patch wise and FD news letters are no longer read. I have utterly lost any faith in you that you can do this.

At the very least you need to look at the economy, it NEEDS to by dynamic and not a simulation of a simulation.

I'm not angry though or bitter because I have had more than my fair share of value from the game for what I paid in kickstarter and I still peruse the forums sporadically and enjoy the occasional post but I really cant see me coming back now because of how the game demands you to grind to just keep your head above water and on any form of even keel. I just wont do the level of repetition that is needed anymore, I cant.

Hmmm, let's see;

Promotes GSP but pretend it's "PvP",
Talks down about PvE players,
Pretends to be better than everyone else,
Trying to push all content to Open mode only.

Really, he just needs to be more insulting to others and we have a perfect fit.
I'd think they are "The Voice of Open" under a new account :p

Potentially all of it ? I mean, letting that bubble pop would definitly shake things up.

If I was in FD's shoes, I would do something like that and be clear that if all must burn, so be it.
Plus, it could make for cool storytelling and multiple human clusters bubbles (foam ?)

Lets get something straight right now.

I promote balance to give meaning to PVP.

I dont talk down about PVE players. Just the ones that knowingly use PVE in other modes where you opt out of playing with everyone else to make an impact on everyone else.

Im no where near better than anyone else, I bet my rebuys are higher than anyone here on these forums.

Im trying to push multiplayer parts of the game to Open Only. You can still explore, engineer, anything youd want for personal progression within the modes LABELED Solo and Private.

Check yo self.

Great ideas. We would be able to actually see what was going on. Just some small changes like that would add depth to the game.

Dude, you really need to stop looking for dragons to slay on the forums. It's a scary concept I know, but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and theres no ulterior motive or skulduggery going on.

My brain has summarised that whole thing as the "git gud" crowd vs the "it's too hard and I don't want to learn" crowd.
Unfortunately, Frontier capitulated to the latter. Kind of like how our government introduced an education system that caters for the lowest performing students in order to get them to pass.. ultimately resulting in a current pass mark of 30% (oh I really wish I were joking).

One of the reasons my kids are home schooled with a selection of tutors to supplement.
