Elite Dangerous is the Largest Empty Sandbox Ever Made

Congratulations. You just insulted the entire pirate community. Good we've come full circle back to 2014 where we're treating piracy as ganking.

Can you add some psycho-analysis to that too please?

There seems to be two different types of pirates in this game.

On the one hand, there are actual pirates, who are interested in cargo. In my experience, these pirates make reasonable demands, wait to see if you comply before opening fire, and are genuinely fun to play with. I have a long standing policy when it comes to these kinds of pirates: communicate with me, and I won't immediately jump out. I can count the number of times I've encountered this kind of pirate one one hand, with fingers left over. Its a pity they're so rare.

On the other hand, there are so-called "pirates," who are only interested in blowing up ships. They make no demands, or communicate in any way, and they open fire immediately. I've lost count of how many of these kinds of "pirates" I encountered before my work schedule shifted to 5am. The subsequent reduction in encounters with these so-called "pirates" was no great loss IMO.

Don't feel like you got your money's worth? I thought that what you wanted from me was how to take what Algomatic was saying but teach him how to run it through my patented "social acceptability filter."

On the plus side I'm so close to becoming Elite Beyond Repute that I can practically taste it!
I hoped you'd treat him like a PvEer and address his intolerant, narrow minded insults.

Hope the best, expect the worst I guess. :)
That won't do, Jason, give the man his rep back.
Buyer beware! Fool me once and all that.

Next time he's going to have to say something really witty to get paid. :)

Ziggy is far from anti-emergent content. He probably just wants good emergent gameplay like the most of us.

Oh yes, more emergent jump-honk :D

You know guys, the decision was taken and we will have guilds, player driven economy, player owned stations etc. It’s a matter of time. You know why? Because FD has all data. Your community, beside how vocal is, is not profitable. With ultimate ship ASP, how much have you spent in frontier store? Now take a look on some SDC video. A lot of ships, all of them painted, colored weapons and engines, ship kits. MMO players are buying cosmetics for a lot of ships to look cool in the eyes of others. Most of you have LTEP, one or two ships and you play in solo.

Yup, just like there is 2 types of "PvP". Lots of overlap from GSP types between PvP and Pirate.

(And for those who missed the talk in the other thread, GSP = Gank Single Players (or Gank Squad versus Single Players). The type of player who whinges people should "git gud" or "get skills" but only shoots at newbies or unarmed traders / explorers in their over engineered combat ships where no skill is involved)

The only other option, if you wanted to do the alien wreck thing with other players, was to do so in a private group. But the very same folks who do the utterly moronic blowing up of any hollow square, then go about scoffing at the non-Open players.
Which is quite funny. So next time, Private Group, every single time :)

By the way, I like how you now called the action moronic, not the people. Good nuance. I like nuance. It's not a nuisance at all.

Crap, I need babelfish to post more.

Which is actually the core of the recent debate EvE4evah and I had in which I changed my sig to reflect accordingly-

I don't dislike Piracy or "pirates" but rather the GSP types that think everyone else should exist for their "emergent gameplay content" which is just a facade to hide their need to satisfy gratification at the expense of other people, apply whichever psychological condition you wish here. Pirates may be annoying at times, sure- but they're just trying to "make a living" like everyone else. Sure, still "criminals" but at least they have somewhat honorable intentions as opposed to GSP's which have no integrity and no honor at all.

Don't try to capitalize on the good mood, Sylveria :p :D

The EVE devs called it a fake sandbox at the last fanfest. That just goes to show.

  • No player driven economy.
  • No tools to build clans, corps and alliances..etc
  • No ways to manufacture stuff and sell them.
  • No ways to influence the universe in a meaningful manner.
  • No industry focused gameplay.
  • No player owned contracts.
  • No player owned outposts.
  • No player owned stations.
  • No player owned space.
  • No real player career progression with reputation and consequences to your actions.
  • No player driven narrative stories based around meaningful interactions.

The list goes on.

Even the BGS is adjusted by the devs when there's enough cry babies crying on the opposite side of the spectrum.

It's a cheap theme park with the illusion of a sandbox. The poor implementation of gameplay mechanics is what is holding Elite Dangerous to become a "Good" game.

Dear god NO.

Of all the things you list:

...you got the first one wrong. The BGS is a player controlled economy. Of Epic proportions. Read about it...

...and the rest of your list is a list of things which have no place in Elite.

Do remember that the fundamental premise of Elite is that each player is just a simple schmuck. Not a central character, a protagonist, secondary character or person of any importance whatsoever. That list breaks the fundamental premise. None of us player characters are main plot hero's and nor should we ever become central characters.

Yours Aye

Well, Elite tries to simulate space itself, how could it not be the "Largest empty sandbox ever made" ? ;)
If anything they perhaps simulated it too accurately.
