So, people are reading this galnet article and talking about AEGIS discussing "truce" with the Thargoids and such.... I'm personally not too concerned with that.
What's got me going is what's this article actually trying to communicate?
Things I've been thinking...
- At first, I thought "Oh, it's just a complete list of all the new AEGIS Research stations. Except it's not. There's plenty in there like Obsidian Orbital that aren't owned or even recently placed by AEGIS.
- Next one is maybe it's just announcing where AEGIS is present, but again, many of those systems AEGIS isn't present at all.
- Next I figured "OK, maybe it's a list of stations that are about to become embroiled in the Thargoid conflict, given they're helping with some initiative led by AEGIS. But some of them like 64 Arietis are quite a ways back in the bubble. That's a huge conflict area if so.
- Lastly, I thought "Maybe we're finally going to get some missions to collect tissue samples and the like" given "Over the past few months, we have conducted a massive recruitment drive to secure some of the galaxy’s best and brightest minds. Now it’s time to find out what those minds can accomplish."... but nothing of the sort is in place yet. Conversely, when did some of these systems become "subscribed"? There's been no reports out of, say, 64 Arietis about involvement with AEGIS to date, right?
It's got me a bit perplexed...
I think those locations are where the Aegis labs will eventually be "...creation of over twenty new laboratories, situated at starports across the galaxy." I'm reading this as "We're placing labs in these areas (and more) and therefore there will now be CG's and other things relating to the creation of these labs.
Whether that means these will also be sites of Thargoid conflict, who knows, we don't yet know whether the Thargoids can (or care to) distinguish between humanities factions.
But the general news article seems like this is leading up to filling in more of the official ED Lore about Thargoids "Everything we can learn about the Thargoids’ history, biology and psychology is of potential value." - which, if that's the case, is very welcome.
Interesting idea regarding the labs... what I'd hope is, rather than CGs, we get a Science Contact (it does exist, for CGs where you submit things like Data or Materials) that you can hand Thargoid salvage, data and materials into, like the Search and Rescue one.
Not quite sure where to leave this (or whether it's even vaguely unusual) but I got hyperdicted by a Basilisk yesterday. Played out in a similar way to the old Cyclops hyperdiction except that they probed me from behind (ooh err missus!) and then cut so close past me when they flew off that I basically crashed right into them when my ship powered up again.

So, update in 60 minutes. Research contact appearing in AEGIS stations hopefully?

has there been an announcement, or are you hoping? I thought updates went out on Thursdays?![]()
There are some small behind the scenes improvements that will be unnoticeable and some tweaks to purchasable cosmetics that weren't working quite as intended.
Thanks!
Also, I checked one of the listed stations, no research contacts. Was just hopingThere was a new release today - see Patches - if anyone does check for science / research contacts could you drop a word - I'm in the middle of nowhere but am thinking of switching CMDR to check that out. o7
Edit: Never mind - Ed has spoken:
No, I mean the "Encounters" section is completely misisng.Hyperdictions seem to be registered in the encounters stat - not sure it would register if game crashed
No, I mean the "Encounters" section is completely misisng.
OK, so I got a couple questions for people.
- Everyone still have their "Alien encounters" stat on their Statistics tab?
- Reason I ask that is because I was jumping between systems, when my game hung in hyperspace, had to kill the process. Oddly, when I logged back in, I was 14,000Ls from any bodies in the system. That only really happens when hyperdicted in my experience, or this is just some new bug in the game. Went to see if there was any info in the statistics section on hyperdictions, only to find it wasn't there.
- Reason I wonder this is because the system in question is COL 285 Sector ZE-A A30-2, well inside the bubble.
I'm erring that this might be just a bug, but putting it here just in case.
