Approx 200k cr (50hrs) gone in almost an instant

Well I was doing some exploring and found 10 canisters of Gold. I picked them up, got back to the dock and damn well got scanned whilst on docking approach and got blown out of space. Lost my Hauler and about 41000 credits in gold.

Lucky I had enough credits to get my Hauler back.

I still reckon that finds should be legal gain.:S

Could have happened to me. I also found about 10 gold cans, could take only 4.
When getting to station i got the message that i was being scanned.

I had the feeling something like what happened to you was about to go down, so i went in the station at full speed.

All went well, no crash and no scan. Sold the 4 cans for 16k. And i only had 1100 so those 16k made me :D

Now if this was in an atmosphere I would do some S turns ...however it's not so only way is to throttle down.

if I blow a 2 million ship that i spent 3 weeks on and can't get back to at least the 2 week point, I wont run the game again.

Yeah, and if players can run back in time to restore their ships, half the playerbase won't run theirs again. Or buy it in the first place.

If you play in a persistent online world, accept that the consequences of your actions are also persistent.

Can you can take them to a different faction system or anarchy where they wouldn't be flagged as "dodgy".

Stolen goods are stolen everywhere... HOWEVER... if you get a bounty from say a federation vessel or station for carrying stolen goods, that bounty won't apply at empire or alliance stations. (I don't think we can get to empire yet, but the argument still stands). However if you DO go to empire/alliance stations and are scanned as still carrying stolen goods, you'll get a bounty from them too.

Hope that makes sense

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that. 500 bounty as well as 1,000 fine on top of it.:D Eventually paid it all off.

I was close to this situation with my freighter, this V6, including goods of a value of roughly 500.000 credits.

I bumped into the station and the hull went down to 15%.

puh :D

Yes insurance is in.

The most important lesson you can learn in ED (after patience) is don't fly what you can't insure. :)
Perhaps the insurance system could be tweaked a little so that you "prepay" the insurance fee. That should make it more "n00b friendly" and easier to avoid the OP's predicament. There could also be different levels of insurance.

it happens to us all, i got in my shiny new cobra after a day and a half of play only to get it stuck on the toast rack of the first station i tried to dock in, a hold full of cargo and only about 100 credits left so i was right back to square 2 (only moving on from square 1 as i had learned a valuable lesson)

That bloody toast rack! It has an "Elite" rating you know for killing pilots. Just lost my viper to it... damn NPC barged me into it. waaaaah!

Well S-turns can slow you down in supercruise. I also like to buzz a planet's gravity well to slow down rapidly for my final approach.

In realspace all you can do is cut back on your throttle and let your maneuvering jets slow you down or actively burn away from the station with your main drives.

edit:

I'd buy that. I try to keep enough $$$ in my bank account to cover my ship, but sometimes I get a little carried away and fill up my cargo hold and don't realize I've entered the danger zone until my jump drive is spinning up.

Thankfully my profits have progressed to the point where I can't fill my cargo hold with enough goods to bankrupt me....but I still felt a sting when I decided to do a tight turn towards my star immediately after exiting the coriolis station and forgot that this coriolis station was one of the ones with the weird booms that extend out from the hull....400,000 credits worth of gallium gone in an instant.

New step to personal flight protocol added.
Fly directly away from the dock until I am at least 5-6 km away, then orient myself towards my target star.

i just lost 1,9m and do not even know why, just flied towards station, was around 10 km away, there were no ships and in ONE moment i got boom, no warning no nothing :)

so those things happen..also ejected 450k worth of cargo insider Aulin station once :) that at least was my mistake and not something i cannot control.

When in supercruise this is how I avoid that...

1: Once you're closer than 150LY don't use 100% throttle.. reduce it to about 90%
2: LISTEN TO YOUR ENGINE! If it suddenly starts winding up higher and you didn't throttle up, throttle back immediately! Keep it at zero till your speed starts to drop, then set it to about 60% and see what happens.
3: If that doesn't start to drop the speed within a few seconds do a loop. 360 degrees... that'll slow you down. Set throttle to about 60% and carry on.
4: You need to get progressively slower as you get closer to y our destination... that's why there's a graph on the left side of your cockpit. Get the two sliders into the blue areas and press J and you'll drop out 20km from your target.

Seriously guys... if they wanted you to do supercruise at 100% throttle all the time they wouldn't have given you a throttle with more than 0% and 100% settings. Learn to use it.

I don't get how people even do this... - I've failed at docking, launching, trading and fighting, but reducing throttle towards your destination made simple sense to me. Maybe because I'm not one of those car drivers that drives at 100mph seemingly all the time then slam the brakes on barely in time to stop - I use the gears, change down, lift accelerator then brake gently.... I don't burn up my tyres, or brake pads, and don't run the risk of either failing at just the wrong moment...

and carrying expensive cargo - I'm EVEN more careful, if you aren't; you deserve to crash.

Been there, but not to that scale. Nav map told me I could make the jump I wanted to do with 13 tones, so loaded up 13 tones, then go to make the jump, can't make it. I had to drop a tone of my 5k/tone cargo to make the run, killing my margin for the trip. Also to rub dirt in my face, they fined me for dumping cargo two close to a station!

Pre-pay insurance

Totally agree. You should have pre-paid insurance. When you buy a new weapon or so etching, it tells you it's not assigned to a fire group, when you buy a new ship or component, it should tell you it's not insured, and then have in the stations contacts insurance company, where you can select which components and stuff you wish to insure, and pay the fee then and there.

I bought into the Beta yesterday.
I have started to get the hang of this, feels like supercruise is always trying to sabotage me.

The trading game feels so deliberate and slow paced (not that I didn't expect it), I think I might try the pirates life.

Lol..

You will be having a very short career.
