Star Citizen Discussions v7

Wait? You think 'being talked down by old veteran, but eventually earn his respect, get a manhug and a promotion' is generic?!

Could have been worst

Meanwhile... DS is goin berserk :D

The fact of the matter is that he's NEVER going to be able to deliver EITHER of these two games, let alone in ANY fashion he promised.

And for that, I am going to do everything in my power, and will spare NO time or expense to put Chris Roberts in jail.

I'm done.

42. End

You say goin berserk. I say that's any day that ends in a "y." CIG painted themselves into a corner, and now they're doing a fast dance to appease backers.

I think he's overdone the egg nog again.

That reminds me - I must make a beer run. Once the windscreen wash ran out - all I could dig out the cupboard was a bottle of advocaat and some glace cherries :(

I'll walk to the offie whilst SC consumes my 100Mbps link :(

Actually - it appears not. It's finished doing it's thing and I'm still on 2.6.3

I should do something about this empty rum bottle... :(

Trejo's ship is called 'Advocacy'. No really. Prescient or fluke or cause of the delay?

Anyway, 44 minutes in and my problem is that whilst it's actually not too bad to watch, it has thus far been 90% B-movie, 9% on-rails, and 1%* actual gameplay. Aka 0% replay-ability, despite the excellent debris field, and the Everest-like lump of rock - really very good.

* don't get me wrong, Firewatch is a great game, and I heartily recommend it. But it was $5'ish.

Overall much of it looks good, and some of it looks genuinely excellent, particularly the atmospheric flight at 51 minutes. Excluding the absence of actual gameplay, I'd be happy to buy this if this fidelity (sorry) can be replicated across the entirety of SC - no matter how small the solar system it is set within.

However the problem is, does anyone believe that any aspect on display is mass-re-producable? Because I don't. So it's a bit like seeing the trailer for 'Funny-Film-7' - all the best bits are in the trailer.

As for the planets, I'd be very please if FDev looked at the planetary flight/terrain and decided that this was their starting point (excepting the 'shelf' at 52:23) because much else is excellent in this regard.

The pitch black sections of climbing up ladders, walking along gantries, zapping x with y, pulling lever z.... etc etc... were utterly ridiculous, and overall this whole project is starting to feel like an Arma mod - 90% ground based with only a trivial amount of flight, just to set the scene. Honestly, from about 54 minutes on, if this was the new Quake or next System Shock, I would be genuinely very excited.

So, latterly it feels like a very good Doom clone - insipidly linear and graphically sumptuous... honestly I'd actually pay to have it as a 100% ground based FPS, with Trigens or the Skaarj... or both... ...oooh, sudden thought..... does anyone want to join me on Putsch-Starter* as I have a stop-motion crayon book describing my 'vision', and lots of handwavium for the fidelitah... my name is Robert Christmas... honest...

* All monies to be sent to P.O. Box 101, somewhere in Mauritania, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Rwanda, Samoa, São Tomé & Príncipe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vatican, Vietnam and Yemen. Spot the common denominator.

So 3.0 was pushed to the PTU yesterday, CIG are now pushing it to the live servers one day later :)

I guess releasing it in 2017 watever the state was the plan from the begining.

The build seems to be in a very bad shape but at least everyone can play it now... Don't know if it's a good or bad decision considering the concierges already had access to it...

Dear Citizen,

"Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 goes Live tomorrow. The latest build is currently in open PTU for all backers to play, but we’ll be make it an official Live release tomorrow to get more eyes and ships into the 'Verse to help stress test and identify the bugs to smash in the new year.

Now that the team had completed the heavy lifting to get the tech, content and systems for 3.0, they can focus on optimizations, feature consolidations, and polish for our first quarterly release

Thanks to all of our backers and the entire Cloud Imperium team for making this possible. The release expands the game and adds features, like procedural planetary tech, our new mission system, and the cargo and commodity system. It also introduces flyable ships like the Dragonfly, Nox, and an updated Cutlass Black.

The recently introduced Tumbril Nova is an imposing brute, but a closer look reveals a deceptively versatile tank. Learn more in a Q&A that highlights this iconic war machine. Also, check out our Around the Verse holiday special featuring extensive Squadron 42 gameplay.

Need the perfect gift this Holiday season? Pick up one of our discounted Starter Packages, like a chic Consolidated Outland Mustang, utilitarian RSI Aurora, or reliable Aegis Avenger? Check out all three exclusive packages here.

Our team will be taking a break over the holidays, and we’ll be back to full speed with our shows and updates on Jan 8th. We will, however, have episodes of Around the Verse airing on their usual day and time.

Happy Holidays, everyone.

Sincerely,

The Star Citizen Team

You'll get more gameplay out of those than the entire SQ42 demonstration :D

I can get more gameplay out of the empty one than the entire SQ42 demonstration. I can blow across it to make a tune, use it to light a fire, fill it with flat coke and walk through town center swigging from it to confuse policemen, use it to launch fireworks, and start a fight in Glasgow.

Edit: Actually, that's New Years Eve sorted.
