FAS vs FGS

Can you clarify what the 20% discount mentioned earlier is, how to get it and use it?
I like the idea of buying an FGS hull and leaving it to upgrade later.

I forgot about that review, thanks for dropping it here. Love the FGS, was the only thing i missed when i reset my account, and i didnt get around to fully engineering it.... bring on the end of the CG and it’s mine again. Lolz

yeah, but with Beams you'll still drain the PD in under 10 seconds, or less.

Well, I don't doubt you're right - even with G5 CE PDU and G5 efficient beams - but certainly on other ships with beams, my style commonly involves bursts of not more than 10 seconds anyway, PDU notwithstanding - usually because by that point, things have moved on and I need to think about pip management, boosting, turning, whatever, to get into a favourable position again - it's not often I have a target so relatively static that I'd wish I was able to burn in excess of 10 seconds and, if I did, a G5 CE PDU with 4 pips in WEP gets you back to full in an acceptably short time if your target is immobile (and your fighter can still plink away while you do it).

All that said, I'll probably never find out because G5 rapidfire multi's is soooo much fun, I've no plans of my own for a full beam loadout.

FGS - 7A Power Distributor. If you can't do something with that.. well. :(

Of course you can do plenty with it! We were just discussing whether driving seven beams (as someone had mentioned) was amongst the things you could do. I have a feeling with heavy engineering, you could make a useful fit, Starwolfe isn't so sure, but nobody's disputing that, for its hull class, it has excellent PDU options.

You can do more with a 7A than just pack on the beams. You can use other weapons combos to allow you to fire your weapons non stop. And ya. Engineered and you can do a lot.

PS i wasnt responding to anyone in particular in my original post. I was just saying.

I only read the first two pages of this thread, but the Gunship has very strong yaw, but weak pitch. You have to switch to using that to keep your enemies in front of you, which can take some getting used to.

The maneuverability is just fine if you do that.

Yeah, I'm with ya all the way - as I said earlier, I run full rapid-fire 5 dakka fit with various specials detailed earlier, and I've no plans to change it - it's fricken hilarious and the MC's take next to no cap anyway, the ammo can still last me 30 mins in a belt, which is plenty for a giggle, and if I want to spend hours in conflict zones farming massacre missions or whatever, I've got other ships with less silly mods on that can sustain better and are probably more efficient.
But not as much fun! - as someone said earlier; Gunship = Funship!

Agreed, the gunship has definitely got quirky handling but, once you're used to it, it's definitely not bad.
I have also noticed that, compared to other ships, it's reverse thrusters seem unusually powerful relative to it's main thrusters - you can use this to pull off some unexpected manoeuvres, and it responds well to FA off (I'm not that good with FA off on smaller ships, FGS is the smallest ship where I can control it well enough to get where I want faster/more reliably than with FA on).

With their being at least a 20% discount on Fed ships after this weeks CG ends (maybe 35% if it stacks with Li yong rui), I've been wondering....

I already have a FAS, and love it, but I do know the handiness of having a SLF with me, from back when I had a keelback.

So, would it be worth it, with the discount in mind, to sell my FAS in for a Gunship, as an upgrade. I'd be mainly doing bounty hunting.

Or is the SLF overrated, and I should just stick to the FAS?

No rush, of course, you've got just under two weeks, when the discount will end....

Thanks in advance.

SLF and Gunship are more fun than an FAS, imo. I can make the NPC pilot do all my dirty work....or just fly the SLF. Choices are nice.

I prefer the FAS because of its agility, but maybe with FGS's extra fire power and the manoeuvre above should have a rethink.

EDIT: Nope, just checked the stats on Coriolis Shipyard with A class thrusters installed in each:

FGS - Pitch: 22 degrees per sec. Yaw: 16 degrees per sec (with DD Grade 5 eng, 28 and 20 respectively).
FAS - Pitch: 34 degrees per sec. Yaw: 17 degrees per sec (with DD Grade 5 eng, 44 and 22 respectively).

So FGS and FAS are comparable on yaw, but either way yaw is slower than pitching, and much slower in the case of the FAS. Basically, it will always take longer to cover the same field of view using yaw instead of pitch.

Oh Please don't say Uber instead of Taxi! Uber gets enough advertising from the press due to massive backing.

Taxi = millions of small businesses in every city in the world.
Uber = Massive company funded by HUGE backers like Microsoft and Google who are trying to REPLACE all those smaller businesses

I hate that nearly evry TV show and Movie are doing what you have done. Replace the word Taxi with the word Uber. Pet hates...

You resurrected this thread just to say that?? :D

Uber is having enough problems what with murderous self-drive, rapists, etc. ;)

I have said it before and will say it again anyone who says FD should put slf into the python should compare the FAS and FGS handling. The SLF bay comes at a heavy prive
