Modes So, I Have The Solution to Crime and Punishment

Holy crap, guys! Why hasn't this ever been thought of?!

You just came up with this on, OP? Like, just now?

(Just kidding OP. Glad you shared your idea, but Open PvE mode has been discussed to death.)

P.S. If you've never shot at another player out of sheer meanness, I personally invite you to go on a small murder spree with me. I don't do it often, and it makes me feel kinda bad when it's over, but it's a real good time while it's going. If it helps we can go pirating, and be ruthless in order to give the killin' some context. Whadda ya say?

I'm not saying that Killing players is bad nor is my solution trying to force players to stop PVP/Ganking. My solution is giving players a choice to be apart of the murder/social community of players or just the social part. The social part of Elite Dangerous is extremly important. Especially since the game has such a steep learning curve.

The DDF had a PVE/PVP flag as a planned way to deal with this - believe this is what you're describing. But for reasons that only FDev know, they decided not to implement.

Can you link to the DDF thread that discusses it, please - as I must have missed that one.

I think EVE Online handles the PVP vs PVE thing very well and would hope Elite goes in that direction. You can be killed anywhere, but there is a heavy incentive (through repercussions) not to do so in guarded zones, but as you head into anarchy zones, etc, you are more at risk. This is how it should be and then Solo Play can be done away with.

Having a PVP on/off flag is not the answer. The actual solution still involves players living with risk, but the incentives not to attack other players need to be much more serious when it occurs in guarded space. However, when you fly out of guarded space, it should be the wild west, which will encourage people to team up.

Then go play EVE....

In your opinion.

Not mine. In fact it is the reason I left after 3 years.

and would hope Elite goes in that direction.

The mode system and P2P networking will prevent that from ever happening.
EVE has to use server/client config, which requires a constant stream of revenue (hence why their F2P sucks and you're locked in T1 cruisers or smaller).
And in case you didn't get the memo, there is no monthly fee for Elite. So it will stay P2P and not move to client/server.

You can be killed anywhere, but there is a heavy incentive (through repercussions) not to do so in guarded zones,

Wow, they blow up your disposable ship you go ganking in and take a security rating drop.
Oh yea, that's right - the guy who took my old account is max minus rating and still goes ganking in 1.0 space for giggles

Yeah, great "repercussions".

and then Solo Play can be done away with.

Solo play isn't just here for people who want to play alone.
It's also there for people on restricted connections (like hotel rooms / train and plane Wifi / mobile phone connections - as Solo uses very little internet) who still want to play.

The actual solution still involves players living with risk, but the incentives not to attack other players need to be much more serious when it occurs in guarded space. However, when you fly out of guarded space, it should be the wild west, which will encourage people to team up.

The actual solution is already in game, it's called Block, and if that fails then there is the back up of changing modes.
So no, we don't have to live with it at all. You have to live with the consequences of your actions - drive people out of open, then you can live with an empty open.

I however can play the game I paid for with or without you - as advertised.

A "PVP OFF" option would be great because sometimes I want to play in "open" stress free with no harassment.

This must depend on where you consider your home system!
I get sick of NPC chain interdictions in solo, so I sometimes go into open.
Seeing as trade is my thing, I sometimes make 10 mil credit in a few hours without any interdictions.
My only problem is I might sit on a pad for too long and go make tea and cookies. Come back and a cmdr wants me to move. (one of the many reasons I SOLOOOO ...)

Have you ever murdered an NPC?
I have, and it was upsetting! Almost as upsetting as a hundred police and assassins trying to kick my butt.

Lmao, ganking is fun indeed, everyone should give it a try, its like crack, you try once and cant stop
Thank you!

There you go, admittance that lack of content is not the reason you and the likes of you gank. So please, after this rare moment of honesty on your behalf, stop arguing that PvP content will decrease ganking. Since it won't. Because it's fun, like crack, and once you try, you can't stop it.

Bookmarked your post for future reference. Appreciate it! :)

If we would have content I wouldn't even start doing the ganking.
I once was a legit pve player and explorer. I was in a player faction playing the bgs.
All that lost its touch with the minimalistic approach this game takes on everything.

Ganking was next.

According to you even if content was forthcoming you wouldn't stop now - lame.

You need help fella, you are obsessed with everyone playing the game your way, if you're so upset about other people not wanting to join in your game the way you play then just stop playing and go do something else, I for one would quit playing if I got confined to open with a galaxy full of obsessed attention seeking whiners like....

The guys in Solo just mind their own business and you want to spoil that...

Translation: I didn't like that FDev won't cater to me so since I am unhappy I want to make everyone else that way too. Then I get to complain about the other modes being "unfair" because others are playing there instead of being my content.
