Like most of you, I really enjoy playing Elite Dangerous :-D
That said, and like many other forum goers have admitted, I've put on some weight over the last few years, partly because my favorite hobby (gaming) typically involves me sitting in my recliner for hours on end.
But after finding I'd hit my all time high weight again, I decided it was time to consume less "comfort" food and beverages, and again lose those 40 extra pounds (yes 40) I've put (back) on over the last few years.
With that in mind, my first step was to brush off my FitBit and commit to getting at least 10,000 steps per day.
And that where Elite Dangerous comes in :-D
You know, when you're trying to make money or rank delivering cargo, data, or passengers, there's a lot of down time.
In the past (and like many of you) I've watched NetFlix, YouTube, and even read some books to pass the time.
But now I've re-purposed my Elite Grind Time as the time that I also walk to get to my 10K daily step goal.
You know, not only can you walk while you grind away at Elite, I've also found I can even run while I play too.
I've started following my wife's exercise routine as she does walk/run intervals using the 5K Runner app, and I've been able to grind away at Elite even while running at 5+ mph (about as fast I dare go right now!)
Doing that I was able to make 40 million credits hauling cargo and data all while traveling a distance of 3 miles on the treadmill!
The only down side is having to switch the controller between hands.
To address that issue, I have a second XBOX controller on the way to try out the XBOX Co-Pilot feature which will allow me to hold one controller in each hand (should have it by Friday
So if you're waistline has grown beyond what you're happy with, you're invited to join me in my journey to become Elite In Real Life!
Just plop your Elite Dangerous platform of choice in from of your "hands free" exercise equipment of choice, and get started!
Note: PC players may want to check out the Steam Link device. I do have one and plan to try it next week so I can also grind my PC account.
