I am so glad i did the engineers as i played because,as Sando said in the Engineer Stream, only current G5 'God Rolls' will be better than the new system's G5's. So anyone who is only just starting now, unless you're very lucky with RNG,i really wouldn't stress over grinding for G5 'God Rolls',especially as the new engineer system will drop in the 1st quater of the year, possibly in January's big update. o7
Easy for a casual player to accept, but any player who wishes to pvp need to get those god-rolls now before they become unavailable and they are forever disenfranchised by this crazy 'grandfathering' idea.
The thing I am most looking forward to with the new system is being able to SEE how many of any materials shown in the CONTACTS menu you already have! THIS IS HUGE!
I have been screaming for this feature since Engineers came out!
Having a 100 capacity PER Material is also huge! Having to constantly juggle which mats to toss out of the cargo bay and which to hold onto is annoying as hell! Especially when a few days later you discover you really could have used those X amount you tossed for a new upgrade session!![]()
So, as the title states I'm currently on a mission to G5 mod all relevant modules on my most used ships, just in case the dev's don't take to their senses and remove the G1 to G5 progression madness.
Anyone else doing this during the holidays?
Personally I have 6 ships (Cutter, Type-10, FDL, Python, Clipper and AspX) that need the following, in order of priority:
FSD - Long Range
Thrusters - Dirty Drives
Power Plant - Overcharged
Power Dist - Charge Enh.
Shield - Reinforced
Sh. Boost - Heavy Duty
Sh. Boost - Res. Augm.
M. Cannon - Overcharged
Lazers - OC / Rapid
Armour - Heavy Duty
60-70 G5 mods, and I'm about a third of the way there. Only doing one G5 roll per module, to ensure I'll be starting at the top of whatever progression is introduced.

Haven't been keeping up to date much lately but isn't the new eng update suppose to make this all easier with less grind and no more RNG in that each roll will give something better?

There always has to be a time sink, otherwise you might as well just give people things on a plate, then people get bored and move on. It might seem counter intuitive, but time sinks are what keeps people playing, and it works.
Yes, and no. Time sink yes, "grind" being misconstrued as "player engagement" and thus time sink seems to be a popular belief, but they are not interchangeable. Frontier is at real risk of alienating the player base if it keeps persisting in playing "what if" with core mechanics.
Sandro has increasingly become a fan of convoluted, highly repetitive tasks with a lot of complexity (probably because that's a challenge and more enjoyable development wise?). The complexity of pilot's federation bounty versus powerplay as an example. That the mechanics changes ostensibly haven't done a damn thing to resolve even a little of the behaviour it was supposed to, seems to not really be considered relevant.
Frontier was supposed to be resolving some of the dissatisfaction over player killing, however the mechanics don't actually address that concern; in fact they seem to have tried to make them as ineffectual as possible (and easily mitigated). It's all very convoluted and interesting though. And the team seems to enjoy doing things for their own entertainment, just not necessarily ours.
IMHO the dev team has become a little divorced from what players are actually doing and have picked a fairly odd way to introduce 'value' into grade 1-4; make grade 5 an intolerable repetition. This isn't necessarily catastrophic, but it's not healthy to ostensibly suggest to improve the value of 1-4, make grade 5 an obnoxious grind.
Change the blueprints to provide better overall value from lower grades, sure. But just make grade 5 just an endless chore, of endless repetition, to encourage people to settle for less? I don't think so, Jim.
I'm 51k LY away from the bubble so I'm not going to make it before then.
Well there are always options to get back faster...
