Anyone else trying to G5 everything before the change?

Its probably just me, but i swear at some point in the recent past frontier nerfed the odds of at least getting a good fsd roll. The last 4 or 5 atttempts i've only scored in the mid 40's, before whatever patch i was easily 47-51 by one or two rolls, always.

I think frontier is trying to tell me at least to wait for the new system.

bad luck i just had the opposite

I spent last night mission running for the Sirius permit to get the Marco Qwent invite......who's upgrades I have no interest in.

You need to have 'friendly status' he says.....well actually not, you need to have allied status....why not just say that from the start?

It was my third and final grind to get allied with Sirius.....and I really didn't enjoy any of it.

Agricultural Liberation of 6 Hostage??? What does that even mean....agricultural liberation? Do I get a plough and scythe to cut open the hull to save Wat Tyler?

And it's hostages with an s!

I haven't even started with the modular terminal thing.....I can't face it right now. I'm doing it in little steps otherwise I might break something.

Getting Palin unlocked is not fun in any way shape or form. The other engineers have been fairly straight forward but this....ugh.

Part of me wants to leave it until the new engineering system drops but who knows how it will effect the unlocks, maybe it will be easier, maybe not.

I couple months ago I did 180 G5 FSD rolls and only got THREE results over 50% and those weren't even that far over 50%. I had the same feelings you did. I was mad and did other stuff for a while.

Later I went back with 100 G5 FSD rolls, or maybe it was just 80, I can't remember. Anyway... I rolled about 40 of those and in that time I got a bunch of results in the 54%+ range. Nothing over 55% though, but that was still pretty good with me. I left Deciat while still having quite a few rolls because I really didn't need anything else right now.

Clearly it's RNG, and we can't see all of the variables that go into the RNG. I wonder if there are "Bad days" for engineering where, after 20-30 bad rolls you'd just be better off saving you mats and coming back another time. But without a clearer picture of what impacts RNG, who knows.

Anyway... don't lose faith. After my 180 roll day I wasn't sure I'd EVER get a good FSD again. Then I got like 4 good FSDs in 40 rolls a few weeks later.

Actually you need Allied to get the permit to visit Sirius, but only Friendly to get the Engineer invite.... so if your naughty towards Sirius after you get the permit and your reputation drops you can still get the invite.

Usualy most game put in an auction house for these kind of materials. But we cant have that in ED,because you need to have a server to host an auction house.

Sure. It's still daft and misleading. Not sure if it was an oversight or just FD trolling.

I have the permit and the engineer invite done now thankfully.....it's probably the first and only time I will ever go to Sirius and probably the last time I will run any missions for them. Phew!

just watch how frontier will ruin all our effort towards the current form of engineers..

I hope they do. It's quite juvenile to be so attached to the illusion of power. Maybe if they took the opportunity to run a balance pass through and remove some of these ridiculous resistance mods, we'd all have the chance to actually apply effort towards becoming better pilots. That was the effort of ours they actually ruined by releasing 2.1.

If I had any patience left for the RNGrind, I would G5 everything before the changes come, just in case FD doesn't come to their senses and drop the whole grind_1-5_for-every_item stupidity.

At this point, I'm not sure it's fixable at all. If you erase god-rolls, it's not fair to old players. If you don't, and newly engineered modules can't get as high as god-rolls, it's not fair to new players.
The middle ground, perhaps. Let the old g5 rollers keep their rolls. Let the new g5 rollers rise to a certain level that provides a base and then any future rolls include the secondaries. Those that don’t want to grind can get to a good level without worrying about rolling backwards. Those that want god rolls can keep going. In effect, a 6th tier has been created.

But they're not removing (or reducing) a tedious operation.

Correct; it's changing one tedious operation, with a different, but equally tedious operation.

All they're doing is rendering the diversity of material sources redundant.

Diversity and drop rate should be defined on the material grade. What it actually is, shouldn't matter. A rare item, should be a rare item. A common, a common. Existing drop rates do not follow this.

You're arguing that a fault with the existing mechanics; that rarity does not match availability (or that some actions are more fun) - should be protected. I'm sorry dude, I can't support that. Because if you are going to define a material by rarity then that's the thing you use for distribution and drop rate. Not how much fun it may or may not be to get.

Because that's entirely contextual to the player. If you offer a broad range of ways to collect materials, then the whole issue of "getting material X is unfun, material Y is fun, this is making Y less good" disappears. That certain actions are infinitely more of a mindless trudge than others, is down to the mindless trudge; what the material is, should be entirely irrelevant.

Engineers was never designed to be entertaining, m8. It was designed to keep you busy and playing. That's the point of grind. To keep you playing. Warframe is infernal grind; it's really really bad. But the developers have figured out how to make it enjoyable enough, and rewarding enough, to persist with. They spent a lot of time working on making that hill, not entirely bad to climb.

Frontier? Don't seem to ostensibly care how much fun the hill is; as long as it's convoluted and complicated - they could learn a lot, from the warframe developer.

Pretty happy about trying to G5 everything after watching yesterdays live stream. What a horrible waste of players time that new system is...

Just finished the stream, +1 without a doubt. I'll be happy with just unlocking full rep though.

For the health of the game, i'll support this system is probably better. But for every single player who's had a go before the update its a huge downgrade.

Nope

I'd rather have less grind post the change and the risk of slightly worse modules if the devs got their sums wrong than bore myself to tears grinding the wake scans I need to finish upgrading a few of my ships

I'm in fact actively not engineering till the next patch hits live

I have no doubts to mod few more PA, APA, Rails and Packhounds before Q1 hits the live :) (started yesterday in half of the stream :D )

I will have to make a list of modules for the new Chieftain too, and get a G5 roll for each of them. I really can't fathom why the devs would introduce such an obvious craft and trash mechanic.

I get that the Engineers is meant to be a progression, but it already is: You progress in your unlocking of the different engineers, and you progress by ranking up each Engineer. Adding progression to every single module you want to Engineer is simply insane - and most certainly not my idea of fun and rewarding game play.
