When will it become a game? Will it become a game?

It's too boring at the moment but hopefully Beyond will make it less so.

I'm not expecting much TBH from this year. The last couple of years means my expectations are very low...

That said, I'm hoping, a) Mining will be made meaningful/more fun, b) Exploration might get a boost with new gameplay and more to see/find. Add to my exploration hope that the end of year DLC is some form of atmospheric landings, at the least I hope I can spend some time back in the game exploring that way!

Mainly talks about other games, but his points can be applied to Elite Dangerous.

Also the people complaining about the game being boring and yet still playing it because they lack the imagination to make the game interesting or even to seek out something they find interesting... those people seem pretty boring to me.

EDIT: I also have never understood the "find the most efficient way of making money and then do that over and over even if it's boring" mentality. I'd rather spend 2 weeks doing something I enjoy and then fimnd out I have the money I need for whatever upgrade, than spend 1 week doing something I don't enjoy in order to get the stuff quicker. But then for me this game is all about journeys, not destinations. I hope I never get to the point where I can afford every ship regardless of cost. Like hitting the level cap in an MMO, that would be when the game got a little bit more boring (I say a little bit more boring rather than just "boring" because I reckon I could still have fun in my Asp-X regardless of anything else, in the same way that the first level on Tony Hawk 2 was enough to keep me occupied for months)

OTHER EDIT: That guy in the video can't pronounce "automata" and it's getting me vexed.

Ships are tools.
Credits are tools.

It takes one tool to get the other tool, but it take the previous tool to get the later tool.

Once you have the tools you need then you can do the things you want to do, just like in real life.

Most of us don't want to slave away for peanuts for 40 years to be able to have the other tools that make us happy or allow us to do more meaningful things.

It is the more easily pleased, unimaginative folk that find the greater enjoyment in ED I believe.

I don't believe anyone's capacity for imagination has anything to do with their enjoyment of ED. Some find enjoyment in simplicity, others in complication- but capacity for imagination doesn't restrict or define one's existence, anymore than their experiences define their future.

My question is what more meaningful things can you do in an anaconda that you can't do in a Cobra?

That doesn't make sense though does it. If as you say it is a boring game, how does not having an imagination actually make it less boring?

What is the point of the big ships then? Wasted dev time perhaps? Yes we can do same stuff in big ships as in small ships, and thats the issue. There is almost no point for big ships (exaggerated a bit here but you get the idea).
Why dont we stay in sidewinders in a small bauble like in the first days of ED? Just use you imagination! ;)

Personal choice. As far as I am concerned progression stops at the Cobra, anything after that is down to personal choice (unless you PvP). I can do everything in a Cobra pretty well that anyone can do in a corvette. Sure there are other specialist ships that do things faster and easier. But they are not needed to do anything. At the moment, I see no need for a anaconda as they will give me a worse experience. Obviously if we ever get anything like proper NPC crew with management etc, then it will give a very different experience, one that would make me interested in getting one of the bigger ships.

No reason why you can't stay in a sidewinder. A sidewinder has been all the way to beagle point and back. But as I said. it's all down to personal choice. Not too sure what imagination has to do with it. For me ED is lacking mechanics that make the big ships a compelling experience.

I agree this "game" is stupid, I want to drive cars and declare myself king and have everyone in the universe call me "King 2Karl", and then I want to do a sequence of races in pimped out vehicles so that I can become the champion of that too and I want a movie made about me called "2Karl 2 Furious" but this STUPID GAME doesn't let me do ANY of that! What's worse, LOADS of people tell me that they HAVE FUN in ED. I mean, WHAT? I don't have fun because there's no sports cars, so how could any of those other people POSSIBLY have fun? I'd better start a new forum thread explaining that the game's terrible just in case those people happily playing the game haven't realised yet!

Then I'm going to combat ram traders outside of the starter area in my overengineered ship called the "Johnson Compensator".

PS this game sucks, right? When are the devs going to turn it into a completely different game because I swore an oath to never ever play any other game ever and this isn't the sort of game I want to play. In fact I don't even play it I just sit here on the forums and complain.

Because I'm some sort of sociopath.

Careful there .... your sarcasm is busting its limits there ....

Keep chasing that proverbial carrot dangling out there. If your not happy with ED and it's present contents, chances are you will not be saved by Beyond. Why? Simple, never enough.

I like the game but it seems to be missing the point of fun and wonder (yes I said wonder). Just watching some Star Ctizen youtube vids and you can get out your ship and run around. In Elite I am waiting for 5 tonnes of Fujin tea which, oh look, only drop twice. It is things like this which are really off putting for me. Why would they only ake 10 tonnes of Fujin tea I wonder (because it is enforced grind). Ifind my like away every day at work and, Oh look, I have to do it in entertainment as well. Jesus Christ, please sort it out. Then I have to grind and grind. Is not entertaining in the least, more of a way to keep people playing. I know this all takes time to sort out, but I am sick and tired of this mentality. Just .
