Modes 30 minute cooldown on switching modes

well that shouldn't happen.

Next!

ofc the cooldown is server side..... restarting game wouldn't work

That would constitute a restriction of use, and one not currently covered by the EULA (which could of course be changed if they so wish).
I imagine the fallout from that would make for some quite entertaining reading.

if it fixes the major exploits the game has had in the past years, yes.

Stop being so whiny because of very specific and rare situations seriously.

People switch modes for a variety of reasons. Not all of them are anything to do with 'exploiting' anything.

You had an idea - great. But it's got holes in it and it's not very practical. Nice try, no cigar, move on.

How about we just get rid of private group and solo... fixed

Actually why not get rid of solo as that seems to be the main source of alternate mission lists, if people want to play alone they can start their own private group with just themselves in it so no real loss there!

What we really need is a proper fix not a work around.

Either, boards should be the same whatever mode/server you happen to log into,
or there should be a way to request all the missions you could ever want of a particular type via the in game menus with minimal delay.

It makes the game very difficult to balance when some people will happily mode switch for hours while others refuse to do it at all.

...right. I thought that last thread was closed.

But hey while we're here.

Why is it that you never see players that do mode switch moaning, whining and crying about "oohhh why can't everyone mode switch"?

Every day this forum seems to be turning further into a social justice platform.

Don't like mode switching? MYOB.

First they make me wait 45 minutes just to transfer my Uber gankship from one CG to the next. Then they make me pay for everyone else’s rebuys on their crappy ships after I blow them to pieces...

And now they want me to wait 30 minutes just to go cry in solo when I finally realize how much everyone hates me.

Lol.

30 minute cooldown on switching modes

Against it. What if someone is playing solo and friends ask him to join them in open?
Would he have to wait 30 minutes?

No, that won't work at all.

A lot of mode switching can be prevented with a different mission structure.
I for example only switched modes when I had difficulty filling up my large cargo hauler.
Adding more high volume hauling missions for large ships would make mode switching unnecessary in those cases.

Also adding hauling missions that can be completed in parts would help. For example there could be a 1500 tonne hauling contract, but you are allowed to complete it in multiple hauls.

you guys cry about waiting 10 minutes but don't about ED being the most exploited game ever.

Massive rewards exploits that ruin all activities, combat logging exploit which ruins most pvp interactions. But way 15 minutes in some rare situations? OH Noooo!!!

You said 30, not 15, though 15 is still overkill.

Citation needed for the claim of ED being "the most exploited game ever."

"only 20 min left until I can join open again"
"ok that's the time to reach your location anyway"

fixed
.
Ah. Let's play a random other game instead.
.
That's the -actual- fix.
.
Now please also consider the Epilogue: hmm, whenever i play ED, we end up playing <random other game>, as there we can actually play together. So don't bother starting ED any more, but go for <random other game> right away. (-> Uninstall ED. )
.
.
Sure, it solves your "i hate that some people don't play this game how i want them to play" problem. It's right after the "fix" of removing solo and private groups. I guess you are more than ready to compensate FD for the financial loss?

Only if you just switched to solo from open, right before your friends wants to play with you, so it almost never happens.

So which is it - 10mins, 15mins or 30mins?

If this is to prevent board flipping then another answer needs to be found, like the game client saving the board status locally (with a time to expire) and re-uploading it to the server you're connected to if (a) it's within the time period, and (b) it detects you're no longer in the mode you were in initially.

But there's probably problems with that as well.

It really is a very obvious fix.

What is the excuse for someone to need to be switching modes with so much frequency if not exploiting?

Not going to work mate, I'll often be flying in my own private group, then helping someone out in open. Or a friend is in Solo, sees me online and joins my group or we both go open. 30min timer is just not going to work, especially for guys like me that grab an hour here and there to play the game at home.

You have a solution, just not a good one.

Edit - 10mins is not too bad, roughly the time it takes for a board to refresh. Still not a great solution, devs probably thought of it years ago

It's just my personal play-style but I tend to do most of my flying in Open 'cos I enjoy meeting other CMDRs but I switch to Solo when I'm "minding my own business" (investigating POIs, mining, surface-mining for mat's etc) because I don't want to risk having my ship destroyed by some twonk for the lulz.

With the OP's proposal implemented, I'd probably just play in Mobius 100% of the time in order to avoid becoming somebody else's "content" while still retaining some interaction with other players.

you guys really make up the most nonsense excuses to keep the game exploitable

Credits are so 2015. The year is now 2018 — credits are all but meaningless, and hopefully they stay that way. Unless you’d rather have everyone grind credits -and- rep -and- engis -and- crafting mats... because apparently that isn’t enough. We should grind credits, too.

Just because it doesn't apply to you does not automatically make it "nonsense." And you still haven't provided any source for your claim that Elite is "the most exploited game ever."
