New engineers - LOVE IT

did they say that you can now get more than one experimental effect per module?

I don't remember that. But they did say that you can buy and switch them as you want without re-rolling, which is awesome.

It is still only one experimental effect per module. However the effect is purchased with materials and stays applied after subsequent rolls.

(Edit: the effect is purchased, not module)

"Progression" to me means incremental improvement. Which is exactly what the new system is, in comparison to the old system where you were able to get the best in the first roll or never, depending on your luck.

There isn't going to be any progression. People are going to take the materials they need to get what they want, land with an unmodified module, and leave with one that will never need to be touched by an Engineer again.

Ignoring grandfathering, I like the new system better, precisely because I'll never need to worry about progression, because there won't been any chance of randomly getting something better than what I've got. The old/current system definitely has more progression in the way Sandro meant.

I like the new system more than the old one too. But...

I still see a problem with grandfathering such secondaries as low heat generation e.g. G1 rail guns and PAs with -50% heat generation - there is no indication of what happens to such modules in the new system if it is stays as it was shown then we have a problem.

FD is trying to make us more attached to our ships, but it is too late with all the ship storage etc.. The new system makes a step towards "sense of pride and accomplishment" for your upgrades - you just roll once choose experimental effect and then pin the blueprint and play the game and kinda shape your ship to perfection of your liking - it grows with you, you get attached, you value every step on that journey. The problem is that we (most of us, as players) have already lost that sense because we own a lot of different ships they are no longer our extensions they are just different tools that we change as we see fit and when we want. Thus people complain that they won't be able to upgrade their "fleets".

One of my only outstanding issues with Engineers, in Beyond, is that I want all Engineers to have multiple routes by which you can gain rank, & I still want the ability to sacrifice the rank I have gained (Favours) as a means to purchase Effects I can't "afford" or to tweak the stats of a module, post upgrade.

Oh, & I really wanted the ability to swap out materials/data of different grades in return for a bonus-or penalty-to the upgrade roll.

Oh yes, multiple routes to the ranks would be nice. Special missions, favours and such would be great.

FD makes right evaluation ship hoarders and min maxers aren't regular crowd playing game, rather than niche group of players looking at ED in rather twisted and bizarre image.

Nobody knows. Personally I expect beta to last two to four weeks, if I am to judge, looking at previous betas.

I can't remember exactly when it was, but Ed mentioned there being a "nice long beta" for the purpose of gathering our feedback to adjust things (such as the engineer rolls and mats trader). I think 4-6 weeks is a good guess.

Sounds a long time when you're eager for it [mad] but good to hear that they'll get a good amount of data with which to tweakify.

I doubt that there are a lot of players (apart from newbies) that have 1-3 ships.

Yes, I would also rather have a long beta leading to decently pimped-out live build rather than rushed half-cooked mess (As had happened in the past)

Min-maxers: from 100s, or 1,000s of rolls to 20: yeay, fantastic
Everybody else: from 3-4 rolls to 15: booh, hiss

Please a small segment to crap on the rest.

The worst is the progression argument. You give me less than I had and used, but a quicker path to the very best. I don't think Sandro knows what the word "Progression" means.

I suspect their telemetry shows that most players are rolling more than the bare minimum (if you have the mats for it, why not roll a few more times? you don't have to go nuts) and so they feel they can do this without annoying too many people.

Well, I like what I've seen.

The increased material cap (and to a lesser extent, the material broker) is crucial - this should allow players to blast through the lower grades, if they need to.

I was pleasantly surprised by the cost of experimental effects. I was expecting a commodity or credit cost to be required. Instead its just materials, again, the increased cap helps.

I say we give the new system a chance before its crucified....

Looks in other threads....

......oh.

Yeah, too late. :D
It's already a failed experiment and Elite is dead.

It is a long time before going live, especially for those on console who can't participate in the beta. That said, I'd prefer to have a longer beta so we have an opportunity to tweak things as you said.

just thought I'd say I love the engineer changes.

Purchase secondaries always getting better and not having to figure out what 9n earth better even means far more simple and all round just better thanks fdev!!

DITTO!

The whiners out there are beyond clueless in their complaining. Based on some of the idiotic comments I have been reading in other threads, they don't even know how the current system actually works leave alone the new one they haven't even tried out yet!

The material and data storage capacity increase is HUGE! And anyone worth their salt as an Engineering Expert in this game would know that! An easy gauge of all the wannabes out there. The Legends in Their Own Minds, who in reality haven't got a clue how all this works.

I can definitely feel for the Frontier folks this time.

The lack of imagination and vision I see on display by such a large number of ED players is truly stunning.

You've been here long enough. Was it ever any different?
