Do you hate the Engineer change? Let the Beta burn!

Basically, if you think the change to Engineers is horrible...take your god rolls into beta and prove to the devs that grandfathering them is a bad idea...show them how ugly the galaxy will be when these ships are the only ones out there.

Im willing to accept the changes and move on, As long as Grandfathering remains im fine with it all.
Over time im sure i will move across from my Grandfathered modules as and when it applies to do so.
And if i like my ships the way they are, i dont mind if people flying ships on the new system out power me with the promised stat increase and grind decrease.

This will clearly produce positive results.

To be honest, this is what beta is actually for. Working out the kinks of the game. And, yes, it would have positive results if shown that the current grandfathering would have as severe an effect as people are claiming. The devs will listen if there is proof that the risk to imbalance is larger than the expected outcome of the action...but it's on the players shoulders to show them the problem. The devs are looking at the numbers of players with god rolls...and not seeing a problem. An example of a large problem put up in beta would show them something they are not seeing...or discounting to heavily.

I suggest that all the self proclaimed engineering experts out there actually try out the new system, and then compare the results to your existing high rolls.

Be sure to have a Stop Watch handy, so you can TIME how long the process takes between the current system and the new system. Also count up the number of max upgrades you have achieved within a specific period of time compared to the new system. Be sure to include Experimental Effects in your session comparison.

At least do this before running off at the mouth and embarrassing yourselves in public. ;)

I dislike the punishing changes.

I wonder how many players are doing that.

Only the fools at the moment. There will be at least 3 weeks of Beta, so there will be plenty of time to bash out upgrades using the existing system if the new one proves to be the disaster these folks assume it will be.

Smart players will wait and compare the two first before potentially wasting hours of their gaming time for nothing, if the new system actually produces better results per hour invested than the old one, which I am pretty sure it will.

The only aspect I am curious about is the overspecs currently possible in the existing system. A +52% or higher Optimized Mass upgrade on an FSD's range is definitely better than the normal max of +50%.

Several of my ships have FSD OM specs higher than +55% and it does make a considerable difference in your jump range. Obviously, I am not touching those with the new system unless a similar upgrade can be achieved with the new system.

That said... Your average player is not likely to have more than one or two modules with a lucky roll of the max +50%. Most players don't have a single one. The new system will allow everyone to upgrade to that max of +50% guaranteed if they are willing to put in the time.

Likely a fraction of the time the same multiple +50%s would take to achieve with the current system. And with no guarantees for success before you try.

No it's a no brainer. I will make a list of all my ships and those i seek in the near future and engineer a single g5 for each module and each ship. Then i will convert it to the new system and go from there. This is just the way to avoid the g1-g5 grind.

I thought the new engineering system looked good - continual progress, less rng, that's what you people want isn't it? I don't really anticipate a grind in this new system. Mind you, I'm not a boring minmaxer so what would I know?

The new system doesn't look bad. If it takes a little longer or a little shorter to engineer modules, then so be it. Grandfathering in the old stuff I very much dislike, however. That throws any chance of engineers ever being remotely balanced out the window. This was their chance to start anew and reign in the boosts to a more reasonable level. Instead, they're doubling down and making engineered ships even more wildly powerful, and thus even further separated from the rest of the world (NPCs).

Mmm... no, I think I'll let the Beta chill instead.

Took a quick look at the stream, saw that 45%ish DPS increase on some mod... then heard Sandro nonchalantly talk about "grandfathering".... that's enough for me. RNGineers turned out to be a hot mess and many warned about it, ever since it was announced. I fear that this new.... Grindineers, or whaterver it ends up being nicknamed by the community, is going to be the same. No reason to waste time on it.

No time for beta...
Emergency engineering in progress...

*Dashes off*

LOL!

That was me... I warned about it.

I don't have much of an opinion positive or negative. Perhaps leaning very slightly to positive.

I do, however, think grandfathering old God rolls in while denying the ability to achieve the same results with the new system will have far reaching balance implications that I'm not too happy about.
