Galnet Audio: The most useless thing in the whole game?

It was not a waste of the dev times, I abd many others will use it for sure, it will make long SC much more doable. Also I pretty much ignored galnet wall of text so far, now I will be able to know what is going on.

If it reads other stuff as well as the main stories (yawn) it would be nice. I would like it to tell me local news, traffic reports maybe and also to read me out my missions’ descriptions but I realise that they are not part of Galnet.

The key is the content - unless the news gets more interesting there's not much point.
first page comment gets it.

it will only be as good as content to fuel it is present. I'll use it as long as I don't have to focus on it. For example, if it will just play once I select it from a menu like a podcast, I'll use it a lot.

If I have to sit in the galnet menu while it plays, I won't use it at all.

Very much the case the majority could note care less about CL .
Really if you look at development of cp I don't think FDev are very bothered about CL there is even a legal way of doing it.
It's just a loud minority banging on the CL drum.

As for galnet audio this ads possibilities for everyone.

Because the majority don't understand it affects PvE and BGS way more. As examples : What will happen with the new C&P if i want to put a system in lockdown working the BGS and combat log against ATR everytime ? What was the best way to do smeaton runs to farm Cr ?

I'm seeing lots of people "Sounds neat, I will definitely use this!", but they have no idea how invasive and annoying the exposition voice can be while playing an interdiction/being attack by a player or, well, any kind of action which requires a little bit of attention really.

The same exact thing happened when fdevs presented multicrew gameplay for the first time in one of their livestreams. "It's awesome Frontier! Thanks! Can't wait to let my son/wife/dog/cat be my turret operator!" and a few weeks after release I was having trouble finding a single ship online available for multicrew.

This is because people have no idea what they want or like. They think they do, but they don't. They're seeing a shiny new feature (Well, we pc users have this since 2015 now, and it does more, better and it's 100% customizable), sounds mildly futuristic and they think they'll use it more than a couple of times.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the average forum user here will use galnet audio on a regular basis all day long "what the frack are you talking about Quester, always so negative, go play CoD if you want your instawin button, Elite is niche, I'm niche and special you're casual", but it's fundamentally useless, especially with the quality of news we're getting lately.

If only you were there when the galnet reader was implemented into eddi, 9/10 people was there asking how to shut that thing down, and EDDI is even better implemented because you can trigger the reader, stop it and pause/resume with your voice without fiddling with the menus and stuff.

You know what would actually be useful from a gameplay standpoint? Having the synthesized voice tell you stuff during witchspace, such as state/population and economy of the system you're going to, or quickly reading the composition and materials you can find in landable planets you scan while exploring and no threats are around, or telling you when you're detecting a signal while driving the rover and what it might be. You know, the useful gameplay stuff which is not just there to shine and look pretty.

Hmmm, let's see now ... how many times have I been troubled by combat logging in my 1600+ hours of game time? Oh yeah ... zero, zip, nada, the big fat zilcherino! (genuinely).

And how many times have I thought "I wish I could hear the latest Galnet" while on a long supercruise to a station? Many.

For the average player, my guess is that a cool new audio feature is WAY more interesting than a clogging fix.

I'm not saying clogging isn't a problem, and I'm not unsympathetic to those it affects ... but the clogging banner wavers need to get some perspective.

I despise combat logging...but you know what would be worse than a fix?

Getting a team of audio guys working on it... the audio team FDev have are fantastic, one of the best in the business if you ask me. You don't stick them on fixing networking issues etc! You stick them on improving the audio experiance - which they are doing

Two completely unrelated things. One does not impact on the other at all.

Oh come on I play the bgs and you don't need to attack players for the bgs

Actually no...I expressed concerns about multicrew because of some fairly obvious drawbacks...but what I want is for my game to feel more alive, do you remember before we had space traffic controllers? Somthing like a month after they were in I went to a small station for the first time and the silence...it was...deafening! STC's totally changed the Elite experiance and brought the game "to life" Galnet audio should do the same if done right. We shouldn't have to be going to other sites and taking time out of game to find out what is going on in the game! Galnet audio should fix that. I have no idea what you are talking about with "the quality of news we are getting lately" There is stuff happening in game like station attacks that doesn't even make it to the launcher till several days later! I want it in game the moment it happens! Galnet as it is right now is frankly a steaming pile of crap, a total waste of space because the news put in it is rubbish. But also because many players don't want to sit scrolling through the useless stuff to find what they need. Galnet audio could fix that

Now it could be the devs completely stuff it up, don't put in enough stuff etc. But that doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea. Or that the community were wrong to be exited about it.

There are so many possibilities to improve the game experiance with it

Ran out of rep so have a + lol

I like it and will use it frequently. And it is one step towards high quality procedural narration and good for use of generic comms chatter, that adresses the player directly. Great addition to the game.

It is way more important than fixing combat log.............. connexion error. /s

I agree :p (and without the /s )

as for whether the galnet stuff is interesting enough to warrant it...... well call me woefully over optimistic but my hope is this is truly a 1.0 and will be built on over time (because FD are great at that right, just look at how CQC, PP, and multcrew have been fleshed out since launch ;)

(ok sorry i could not resistmy own bit of sarcasm)

but seriously.. i have high hopes for galnet audio

Nothing wrong with a bit of sarcasm.
Nothing wrong with voicing critique either.

I see it as a positive also actually the whole beyond update has me more positive about the game than I have been in a while.

i agree with all of the above... but with the small print that we should not get too hung up on negativity and criticism before its even got into beta, let alone out into release imo.

To be honest, it will only be a waste if FD don't keep up with releasing actual hand made Galnet posts.

If all it has are th auto generated ones.... then yeah, this entire thing was a massive waste of resources.

If, however, they have a plan, and employees with a direct responsibility for galnet updates, then it will be quite good.

I am not holding my breath.
