It is, isn't it?
Especially if you think, that with the new engineering system it will not be the main concern to get those rare materilas for the final G5 roll, but to obtain crazy amounts of basic materials to go through G1 until G5.
Let's say I want to engineer 4 multicannons with overcharged.
I needed three rolls per 1 Nickel to get form G1 to G2 (3x4) = 12 Nickel for 4 multicannons.
Then I needed SEVEN rolls per 1 Nickel and 1 Conductive Component form G2 to G3 (7x4) = 28 Nickel and (7x4) 28 Conductive Components.
So to finish only one G2 overcharged mulitcannon I needed: 10 Nickel and 7 Conductive Components.
For 4 multicannons with maxed G2 overcharged these sums up to:
40 Nickel and 28 Conductive Components.
edit:
so the mat-trader doesn't even feature elements.
edit edit: was at the wrong mat-trader. There are three types of them, one for salvage, one for elements and one for data. Of courese they are not all in the same system...
But you can trade 1 military supercapacitator for 81 Grid Resistors
