Hey, good for you jumping into the Open mad house on your main! Once you get some experience, you'll be ballin' around no problem. Stick with it, like others have said, it can be very rewarding to the crafty.

What I don't get is that even though I submitted with the intent of high waking out of there, my FSD somehow took damage and I ended up with the long cooldown.

When I say 4s I mean subjectively 4s after the alpha strike. About 3 volleys with a huge rapid firing PA, 2 rails (I think) and 2 beams. Amusingly shield was gone in one shot.

An explorer build asp is not built to last.

Class 5A shield.
Internals are filled completely with explorer gear (2 scanners, SVH, Fuel Scoop, AFMU etc. one 8T cargo rack.)
Utilities are wake scanner, heat sink, chaff and a shield booster.

I don't see how the ship could have been any better unless I replaced things with HRMs etc. Then it wouldn't be fit for purpose anyway.



So, how do I fit a class 5 shield to an imperial eagle?

For ASPX you need A rated shield engineered for thermal resistance and 2 boosters enginnered for resistance as well.

Dirty drive G5 will give you close 500m/s boost, the fastest fdl boosts around 570m/s.

Mod the hull for light weight to give you better jump range and speed.

Well, if I was going to firebomb or shoot-up a party I sure as hell wouldn't warn the attendees about it!

It's possible to fail to submit if you are successfully interdicted too soon...you should always make sure you are pointing toward the escape vector, even if you've zeroed throttle to submit.

In have mainly been flying around in the Chieftain over the last couple of days. I've been interdicted a few times, and on most occasions there hasn't been any chat. I'm not very good at PvP, but if I'm in a combat (or even semi-combat) ship, then I'll always try a few shots and prepare to leg it if (when ) my shields drop.

One interdiction did make me laugh, though. I had just arrived back in Wyrd in my AspX, as I'd gone to hunt for data I needed to test out the engineers. I tried to fight the interdiction, realised I was going to lose, so submitted. Was about to leg it, when I noticed that I wasn't being fired upon. The other player asked if I minded him attacking me as he wanted to test out the new C&P. At this point we were stationary and facing each other. I answered that they were certainly free to try, and then legged it (which is what I was going to do anyway - I hate fighting in the AspX, the canopy blows immediately, in my experience!). Of course, my ship was much faster and I escaped ok.

I did try and friend the attacker afterwards, as I'd have been more than happy to return a couple of minutes later in my Chieftain and fight to the death (most likely mine).

I play in Open when I'm happy to be interdicted/attacked/killed by other players. I don't generally expect any conversation when interdicted, though - the interdiction itself should tell you what is coming! I play in private group when I just want a relaxing flying session.

Nothing to do with bullies. Its an MMO, the content is availble to everyone. If fdev gave an option to overpower ones ship, this same option is availble to everyone. You cant blame players for using this option and than using it against you. That's what FDEV wanted this game to look like, a mad slaughterhouse dangerous galaxy. Keep in mind you have tools to protect yourself if you dont wish to be the hunter.

Very first supercruise. Interdicted by a ferdelance whom shall remain unnamed.
I had no cargo, was in a lightly fitted asp.
No chat, no RP just instant death with beams and PA.
went from 4km to about 500m distance less than 10 seconds, so super engineered.

luckly less than 1m rebuy.

5 minutes.

Well I'm sorry to hear that.

Basically DO NOT PLAY IN OPEN unless you are prepared for the consequences.

You wouldn't take up motor racing, parachute jumping, shark diving, etc, unless you were happy with the risk / reward ratio.
No different in ED, IMO.

If you play with fire - expect to get burnt.




Having said that, I've got 2 active accounts. My 2nd (CMDR RavJ) has only ever been played in Open, apart from a few mistaken logins to solo, and my current PG in Enigma.

No issues at all, and I have many, many more friends

I'm currently using a shieldless T-7 in open, because it is less investment in time and credits. Hauling cargo that costs 1Mcr. Overall I'm investing 2.2 Mcr. for 304 t. I can make more credits in half an hour with an even cheaper ship.
To get to 400t I would have to invest a much higher re-buy cost (but obviously with a much higher chance of survival in case of interdiction).

I understand that a lot of players don't think this is entertaining

Only if other than lightweight armor is used. Mass reduction doesn't affect lightweight armor.

did he have better gear you will never be able to get no matter your effort, and thus will he kill you every time you try?

Bullies will only admit what they are sometimes, after being given a taste of their own medicine. The attitude of, I have put in the time to beef myself up and honed my skills, brought and built my over-powered ship; so now I have the right to attack everything weaker than me and it is their fault, they die, because they have not done as I have done. Technically, the options to survive are simple. Change modes or block the likes of you.

The thing is; if you came here and said: I am the biggest baddest player in the galaxy and I will take on and kill you all. Fear me and jump out of the system if you so much as catch a glimpse of my ship. Then fair enough, but you just gloat and tell everyone to get gud, grind more.

Yes, I have no problem with the video.. I am going to great lengths to totally max out a sidewinder.

It was just that you offered it as some sort of a solution that requires one to either

1) Play in a way that you implicitly stated you shouldn't in your post.
or
2) Don't play in open until you've got the G5s....

So you see the illogicality of your post.
