What the H is a Cutter to do? For every million I make, another relative sues!

This is why you don't just rush for the Cutter. By playing the game you learn how these things work and then you know what activities a TradeCutter is good for.

Been playing since 2015, I just didn't want to read the 100+ page thread with outdated info on the first page. If you have an up to date guide I'd be interested in reading it.

Is the system map still terribly inaccurate for system states (war/boom etc?) It used to be very unreliable.

System View has always been accurate as regards to the different states. Galactic view however is the one that is hit or miss. Still nothing beats forth paneling once you get into a system without docking at the station and reading up on local news.

The "Unreliability" of the map is more due to the cooldown time and people's lack of awareness of how long a state lasts under player actions.

My methods of trade have not changed since I started playing the game which was short about the time of 1.2. They are immortal.

I haven't done any such guide because it seems what I consider common knowledge isn't. I'll consider firing up the old stream again to capture a video.

Part of my campaign was to see if I could manage an up to date system tracker topic but that's a ways off yet.

Very good news for solo or wing traders, current beta payouts are very nice for high capacity missions 4000+ tonnes. So far seen 27million credits, just for tobacco.

Eminem ripoff, but it feels accurate right now. I like flying my cutter, but I can't think of anything worth doing with it. Commodity trading is low income and passengers are even worse. What is the point of having the best cargo ship in the game if there is nothing worth hauling? I'd like to point out that both of these activities don't benefit from the distance from star bonus that was added not too long ago. That allows a simple hauler to make as much money as a cutter by hauling significantly less cargo for a mission.

I'm open to suggestions, maybe someone can teach me a decent commodity trade route, but it seems like I would be better off flying my FDL in RES or taking my Anaconda into the black. Thoughts?

I made a lot of money hauling slaves.

Spent time doing a run on the community goal, but the commodities in the surrounding region have already dried up. Took me a 20 minute flight with 4+ jumps 1 way to make 2.8 million. I'll have to check out Pleiades next time. Is the system map still terribly inaccurate for system states (war/boom etc?) It used to be very unreliable.
The high-profit trades tend to get drained quite quickly in systems surrounding trade CGs. The key is to look for one of the lower-profit commodities on the wishlist, then find a station that's a direct producer of the goods 15-20,000ls from the jump point. Players tend to favour the systems with stations closer to the star, so these get overlooked. You'll spend a bit more time in supercruise but the loss of time and smaller profits are made up for by the rate at which you can climb the contribution ladder. Lower value cargo also means the NPCs tend not to pester you as much.

(As an example, at the current CG it's next to impossible to find large stocks of Consumer Technology anywhere, but there's a system one jump away that's got an almost endless supply of Domestic Appliances).

Alternatively you could try outfitting the Cutter with passenger cabins and doing a few evacuation runs from the crippled stations in the Pleiades. I did a few in a T9 and it was a new experience flying a large ship through the debris; I'd like to try it in the Cutter at some point. They don't pay too badly either. Not long-range mission prices, and no big payout at the end like a CG, but in terms of credits per minute it's not a bad way to spend an hour or so.

My experiences with the galaxy and system maps are they tend to be inaccurate occasionally.
I often have eddb open at the same time and defer to that if there's a discrepancy, and it has a recent update.

There are some nice overhauls coming up so hopefully that's been addressed.
CMDR trade data is something I'm really interested in.
Should be easier to spot gold rushes in game.
:)

ha I could have just made this thread myself.
Finally got the Cutter and A rated everything after playing one continuous character since Gamma. ...and am now wondering what I'm supposed to do with it.

The biggest ships feel like they could benefit from 'space legs' the most. The Cutter looks amazing, I SOOOO want to be able to walk around inside it and see the decadent rich Imperial layout inside. You know there is a pool and day spa hidden in there somewhere!

In beta, I just got a 40m credit mission for hauling 1800t of beer, multiple sessions allowed. Anyway, slightly disappointed you didn't complain that in beta crimes omitted by expensive ships are punished more harshly than with cheap ships, would have fitted MM more. :p

Anyway, everyone knows the point of a Cutter is to pledge to Aisling and troll traders at CGs...

I don't trade in the Cutter. I only use mine for PvP and PvE. It is an excellent warship for intercepting. It can boost above 460 and stores a fighter. No other SLF equipped ship can go that fast.

Tell us more!
Do you just yank people from super cruise, boost at them and then let turrets do their work?

No. I use 2 imperial hammers, 1 fixed huge beam, 2 advanced pa's and 2 crappy turrets for experimental effects. I prefer using the Cutter with fixed hardpoints because of TLB, silent running, and chaff.

You can! Just invest in a VR headset and explore to your hearts content. (assuming you don't mind fiddling with recentering every so often to move further through the ship)

So I saw you don't need to be in a wing to do these missions and I've seen a little more realistic jobs (1200T of beer). I'm assuming you take a load for drop off and go back for the rest. Sounds like a perfect job for my 700T Cutter.

I’m nearly on my 150th roll, still haven’t got above +7% on the optimal mass

Mainly safety at community goals. The cutter is my community goal ship.

The fat thrusters and giant shields make trading safe, even with a size5 prismatic. Same with bounty hunting and CZs - if someone tries to zap you, you have plenty of time to get out of there, or fight back if you like your odds. The 5 central hardpoints have tremendous convergence, making them fantastic for fixed weapons - I find they converge better than the FDLs 5 weapons which is downright crazy. It has pretty solid armor, again giving you safety if your shields drop due to a silly error or someone getting lucky with reverbs.

Forgot rares lol, that's more suited for someone in a Clipper.

Nah, the Clipper is terrible at rares...

No medium pads, only average jump range, and horrid fuel consumption meaning lots of refuelling stops... Like an Italian sportscar, the Clipper is a point A to point A vehicle. It's terrible for long tours. Especially rares.

For rares, the T-6 and the AspX (as always) are the clearly best choices (IMO).

.

Fair enough, just remember my first days of owning a clipper, felt too good to be hauling regular cargo around, would use it for doing the old rare runs. Haven't done a rare circuit in years.

I've had a look at beta and quickly found commodity netting 5000Cr profit per ton. The new data searching system is great!
I would say - wait for the first Beyond update to drop, which should put back some relevance to trading. Or at the very least - make finding good runs a little easier.
