Chieftain is about 28M fully loaded.

Just for the record .. I think that would risk introducing bugs. Better to use a dev code and give yourself a gazillion credits .. money's still no object but you're not mucking around with the game parameters too much. o7

Probably, yeah. But slapdash dev hacks are gonna be slapdash. They were using a dev command line to prep stuff for the demo. No need to add in module prices for that.

Well, remains seen.

No, it's been seen - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGZ4GfR09uo

It's a medium pad ship.

That has been stated several times in the stream. It is a ship designed for combat.

Then don't try it.
The only reason I need to try the chieftain is the fact that it is there.

I'd agree, just going by the number involved with stock ships right off the show room floor. The python beats the hell out of the Chieftain, it's a no brainer. Comparing a stock FAS and a Chieftain, and again only using the number's, they are so close that it's gonna boil down to one play style and ability or skills which makes the actual difference.

When comparing various ships it always cracks me up how one will use all the additional variables that engineering can bring to their equations. I prefer to compare any and all ships based on stock. Adding play styles, ability, skills, engineering and over all actualy experience includes to many variables. Thus they are all moot points.

I'm not impressed, but like you, I will give it an honest workout for a week or two and then either keep it thus replacing the FAS or loose the five percent and sell it back.

How? I just kitted one in coriolis and it's 70m.. that's keeping the stock bulkheads too. I just A-rated all core internals except life support, added HRP/MRP/SCB/Shield Gen/Fuel Scoop/Cargo Rack, Large Multis, pulse on the rest, and 4 shield boosters.

I'm sure you could kit one with only 28m.. but that's not "fully loaded" by my def lol

On February 6, the beta servers will go down shortly to allow us to update to beta 3, which will be as close to the 3.0 release build as possible.

Last weekend of 3.0 beta – special treats
...
- All ships, weapons and modules are now down to 10% of their normal price. Now’s the chance to play around with the ship of your dreams, even if you can’t afford it in the main Elite Dangerous experience!

So the prices will go down to 10% of normal price as a special treat for the final weekend of beta, starting Feb 6th.
Which means they haven't been reduced up to now.
Which means OP's estimate for live cost is probably pretty close to the mark.

If I'm right on that, then the outfitting we saw is... likely going to add about 50 mil, give or take a few million.

Which would give us a total cost there of about 78 million. Which fits nicely in with the Clipper / FAS tier, which is exactly what I would expect.

Imma just toot my own horn here a little. :)
