3.0: The Lakon Rises

Meredith Argent used to run AAAI, but I think she sold out to Lakon to finance the rise of the Alliance during the third wave Caker rebellion.

On the last Beta Q&A live stream
Was there mention of asking the Lore people nicely if they will put a post up about the background and history of Lakon?

My take on it is this:

There is currently NO mention of AAAI (Argent Aerodynamics Amalgamated INC) at any of the Tourist beacons in Alioth.

In the Old Lore, (from the FFE journals) Meredith Argent was the head of AAAI and the largest shipyards in the bubble were at New Rossyth in Alioth system.
In both old and new lore, Mic Turner was a ranking Federation Naval Officer until he hooked up with Meredith Argent and joined the third wave* Caker cells of Alioth.

In the new lore (tourist beacons and GalNet) Meredith is not named as the head of AAAI, but instead she is named as the descendant of Walter Argent a wealthy industrialist who moved to Alioth durning the second wave of Caker uprisings and was (I presume) a Caker sympathiser. The beacons that mention Meredith as having extraordinary wealth also mention that the third wave Caker uprising that lead to the founding of the Alliance were much better funded and organised during the time that Meredith argent was involved in the Caker Cells.

Edmund Mahon is about ten years older than Mic Turner and would have known Mic and Meredith during the third wave Caker uprising. They were contemporaries during the rebellion.

So what I think has happened is this:

Walter Argent founded the corporate infrastructure that became AAAI.
Meredith Argent inherited AAAI before current lore and sold of her stake to Lakon, in order to finance the extraordinary campaign that lead to the Alliance becoming a third superpower. Lakon still have a very close relationship with the Alliance, even so far as having the AEDC host a CG to bring the DBX into the game with a discount station.

The heavy costs of bankrolling the Alliance meant that many of the new Lakon ships were designed 'under-buffed' and it is only now that the Alliance has grown in wealth and power, that Lakon have the resources to devote to the redesign of internal systems.

* - the term "third wave" with regards to the foundation of the Alliance is something I use after I did a timeline of the early history of the Alliance.
'Third Wave' acknowledges the three distinct periods of Caker uprisings in Alioth. Details here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/365538-A-history-of-the-Alliance-from-in-game-sources

Would be nice to see the thrusters and drift on the DBS updated and improved like the Chieftain's were.

But then, what joke ship master-of-none would we all have to look forward to if it got a buff?
The DBS has its place: at the bottom of the rack.

It is fugly as sin and useless to boot.

Thank you for that, cool read

you forgot some love for the adder.

The Adder is kind of like that crappy minivan that your parents bought to haul you guys around in because it was cheap and it worked, then you hit 16 years old and it was time for you to have a car and it just happened to be the crappiest car the family had so you get it.

Wow! How'd I miss the Type-10 buff! My engineered Type-10 is a pretty good gunship the way it is! It makes quick work of Elite NPC Anacondas. Now with the class 7 PD it will be even better!

Might try a 4 APAs, 3 Frags and two rails build when 3.0 goes live!

The T10 PD is already live as far as I know. I think it was part of the patch that came before the beta started.

But still nothing beats the Python , we can close the thread

If the Python is so good, why the constant requests for it to be buffed and/or have SLF capability, hmm? [noob]

Oh for god’s sake, people. Remember: BALANCE! In ED every ship must have a downside and the Anaconda’s is its unsecured wiring.

Anyone who thinks there is such s thing as s perfect ship is deluded.

When we get space legs, and you stand up in your Conda's cockpit and get your head and neck tangled up in that wire, don't say I didn't warn you, ok? :p The Condy's USP will be 'has most dangerous cockpit'.

*Flies past in Imperial Cutter*

"The peasants are favoring Lakon? Those ships are absolutely dreadful! haha!"

*Engages basking drive at 500 m/s*

Oh, I agree that the Cutter is a fine ship - I have 3 of them and I bask in their presence. But the buff to the T9 was long overdue, it was odd that a trader ship that big would get so outmatched by the Cutter for cargo capacity. At the very least it may make CGs more interesting.

i think the risk to hang yourself in those cables is lower, then falling down 2m in a T9/T10's cockpit , especially landed on a 6G+ planet.

Much as I love my lakon ships, my T9 and currently my mining and exploration T10, aspx, DBE...all exploring favourites and damned fine ships in their own right.

But its a workhorse ship...the weekender will always be the clipper...why have cotton when one can have silk?

And no doubt, Ill have a cheiftain too simply because its an effective and efficient ship...but they wont win any beauty contests ^

They talked about "scanner array" which is the same as the limpet bay.
.
Oh. And i thought that they'd give us some way to pack a KWS, Wake Scanner, Manifest Scanner and the Xeno Scanner on one single utility mount and already was looking forward to have a kind of sensor turret poking out of my ship.
.
But i guess you are right, that it's all about discovery scanner and surface scanner. And considering that for years now every week somebody has the utterly new idea that a class two slot should be splitable to allow bringing those two scanners, i guess it'd be well received. :)
.

Saud Kruger - Because everything else is for the middle class.

Lakon - Working hard has never looked so hard.

Faulcon-DeLacy - Making the exact same shaped ships since '84.

Core Dynamics - Because you don't care what it looks like.

Zorgon Peterson - There's Nothing New to See Here.

Gutamaya - When paying too much still makes you feel cheap.

I disagree, Lakon ships looks bulky and practical, realistic and simple.

And the Chieftain is a wonder !
