Modes 5 minutes in Open...

The fact you're an Ayn Rand fan dismays me - because surprisingly enough, I am too. :p

Huge Ayn Rand fan. I'm on a snowmobile high in the Rocky Mountains putting in a 300 mile trail for an ultra marithon dog sled race listening to Atlas Shrugged on my iPod. I'm parked in the one spot my cell phone gets reception on the entire trail

When you're done with Rand get serious and read von Hayek

I have never had that much trouble in Open, and I play in Open almost exclusively. The only time I go solo is during community goals where bounties are thin (and only when they are thin), otherwise I'm in open, even in my Type 9.

As for Ayn Rand, I could have more respect for her ideas if they weren't self-justification for her own avarice and selfishness. She took advantage of everyone around her, and justified it with capitalism. If you ask me, she's a shining example of how not to conduct an economy.

Yep. She manages to polarize the nation/world 6 decades after writing Atlas Shrugged because she was so inept and knew so little about economy and production, because we're all so interested in talking about people and things that are covered in the dust of irrelevance. That must be it...

She didn't polarize the world, she took a side in an existing argument. HUGE difference.

it's perfectly possible for someone to be pretty clueless about all of that but still manage to appeal to certain groups of people instincts in a way that flatters and encourages them such that she remains popular.

If we're going to start claiming that such ideas hanging around so long makes them correct and relevant then there's a bunch of religions and far-left bonkers we can start lauding too.... or it's not a measure of such things, only a measure that people like reading it.

As mentioned previously Atlas Shrugged is a monumental read....

When I saw "5 Minutes" in the thread title all I could think of was this:

[h=1]Pantera - 5 Minutes Alone[/h]

Objectivism and ty talk.
Let's combine the two!

"I want you to know this .... What I feel for you is contempt. But it's nothing, compared to the contempt I feel for myself .... I wanted you as one wants a -- for the same reason and purpose. I spent two years damning myself, because I thought you were above a desire of this kind. You're not. You're as vile an animal as I am. I should loath my discovering it. I don't. Yesterday, I would have killed anyone who'd tell me that you were capable of doing what I've had you do. Today, I would give my life not to let it be otherwise, not to have you be anything but the b*tch you are. All the greatness I saw in you -- I would not take it in exchange for the obscenity of your talent at an animal's sensation of pleasure."
-Ayn Rand "Atlas Shrugged"

If only 'Das Kapital' had more s Marx would be more popular among white male conservatives.

Oh...and I like to play in open.

"Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it's just the opposite."
"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."
- John Kenneth Galbraith

"An economist is an expert who will know tomorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn't happen today."
- Lawrence J. Peter

"An economist is a surgeon with an excellent scalpel and a rough-edged lancet, who operates beautifully on the dead and tortures the living."
- Nicholas Chamfort

Something, something, timeframe, Open.

edit: Who took the breadcrumbs of the bottom of the page [mad]

You can't do this to me! I'm far too lazy to scroll up every time!

so being a fashion icon of the american right wing is now polarizing the world?

this little world of ours ...

Calling the world economic system capitalism is like conflating Mormons and Buddhist. Real capitalist read Adam Smith and hate corporations.

Real socialists do too. Smith considers capitalism a beast that can be controlled. Marx showed the beast will always break free and destroy all.
Look at the world around you. The devastation it causes is everywhere.

And the alternative is what exactly?
