Who else would buy die cast ships for display from the frontier store?

I would totally buy into officially licensed Elite ships. I would love to see an Airfix style kit for my favourite ships.

If you want to create your own ship using 3D printing, you need to be aware that you're technically breaking Frontier's ToS if you use meshes from the game. That said, I've had a handful of Clippers (4 + 3 failed tests) 3D printed for myself and friends. These were not for profit and given as gifts.

I would. Ship models were actually a promised reward for some of the Kickstarter reward tiers, wonder what happened to those. I was particularly interested in the cut-away models, which would reveal some of the ship interiors.

So far, that was just another lie of the KS campaign.

But it was to deliver the models, not emails?!

There have been a few backers who have already posted pictures of their Kickstarter models from Frontier. Look a lot nicer than the one's I've managed to 3D print. Unfortunately, I don't think it was possible to do the cut away Anaconda, so they offered them with a single unique paint job in game and a ship model with that paint job instead. Think they've all been sent out now.

Thanks. So after many years, they are delivering the models. Are there any links to the images and posts of these lucky ones?

Seeing is believing.:D

Click "(Source)" next to the name in the quote I provided - that is a link to the thread in question.

Looks like it's a link to the KS backers only section, I can't access it.

That's cool that they partially delivered, but I was most excited for the cut-away models...

Why are people so keen on plastic? Die-cast says so much more quality. Ok, it might be old fashioned, but at least I'm not asking for it in lead.

Plastic = self assembly, at a guess; I'd be up for either or both, and am surprised it hasn't happened already

At least one forum member has posted indicating that he has received his models recently.
To be fair to Juniper, the post specifically referenced cutaway models which never saw the light of day. Stephen Usher got a custom painted Cobra model with matching in-game skin by way of compensation, and the last I heard Liqua had requested something similar for the Anaconda but even that might have fallen through. His posts have been infrequent and understandably bitter.

Shame they can’t be bought. Yet another brilliant product locked behind exclusivity.
They were very expensive, and the limited availability was part of the justification for that. As KS pledge rewards they helped push the game over its initial funding threshold, and so were always going to be exclusive.

I guess FD could always renege and make them available again but that would be a hell of a kick in the teeth for those who pledged back in 2012/2013. Maybe they could call it the "Kickstarter redux experience", take payment then make you wait five years for delivery.

We Elite players are resourceful...I built the Anaconda using the free Lego Digital Designer without having to purchase the Lego parts.

Anaconda Lego Build

Here's a traditional Cobra Mk III I did from scratch. There are quite a few builds out there but getting Lego to buy in won't happen. One designer submitted a perfect build of the Eagle Transporter from the TV series 'Space 1999' but didn't get enough votes for Lego to consider it. I guess timing is everything.

A die-cast T-10 would look great with an array of 8 gas burner jets at the back. Wouldn't work well in plastic ;)

I would buy at least an AspX. It is my favorite ship right now and has been since I bought it not long after starting this game. I might buy a few other ships too. That Chieftan looks pretty cool!
