Im aware of where you are. See you around ol chap. o7o7.

Thats probably coming back with a thermal vent beam laser. :D

Where I am is easy...achenar as its the best, or at least one of the best systems to rank up in and heres the best bit...Im in open all the time now and see the aforementioned toxicity every single day...makes me miss the black truth be told so I use it fer motivational purposes ^

I try and tell people this every time.

It's not that people are afraid, it's not that they're care bears, it's not that they can't be bothered to "play properly" - it's the attitude that stinks and completely ruins the game for me.

Totally agree with the OP - PvP adds nothing whatsoever to any reason I want to play the game. The attitudes that FDev allow to fester in open/here only damage the whole experience for me, and with ever increasing HP/DPS counts the gulf just gets wider between combat ships and everything else.

Why would I even want to take part? Even if I put in all the grind to match their ships, even if I wanted to tolerate the huge TTK of combat ships, even if it actually mattered in the ED world, even if the rest of the galaxy didn't exist the community that enjoys it are the worst aspect of the whole game and enough to stop me wanting anything to do with it.

I played in PvP groups across a number of different games. Even the best intentioned of those groups devolve into petty arguments. I had an incident where I crossed the line, and I was completely embarrassed by the experience, and dumbfounded that no one else even took notice. My outburst was just another example that no one, but me, took notice of. I have found that being out of that environment has made my gaming time much more enjoyable.

With that, I wasn't satisfied with having to sacrifice what content FD offered, to be ready for the moment I was attacked. Absolutely no fun. I can see why peeps that ground out the rolls to be competitive, and then find no one to compete with, get annoyed. But that shouldn't be the yardstick used to develop E|D. E|D has too much to offer to just focus on the one aspect. "If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." I decided to carry some wrenches and screwdrivers.

5+ years of Hotel California with Absolute silence and the thread left open to discuss. If there was nothing to discuss. It would have never existed in the first place and they would have spoke up about it.

Its reaaaaaallly simple to read between the lines here.

Especially with Fleets coming too.

So the definition of insanity. You are absolutely right. Except you have the wrong person you're aiming that sentence at.

Abandon hope now...save yourself some bitter disappointment later!

Haha, the thing is as Ive said numerous places. I only fight other PVPers. ANd yes I include people working the BGS against my group a PVPer. Even if they are in a trade conda.

And like I told you about colonia. You wouldnt have anything to worry about with me.

However, the NaCL group is based out of Jameson . And thats probably why you have some issues around there.

Its funny all this. People cant tell the difference between a griefer and a PVPer. All because they dont actually take part in any of this stuff and spend more time on the forums than playing the game.

Its okay though, I was in your shoes once back in my bear days. I thought anyone that PVPd was SDC. It happens to the best of us.

People should really get into 3.0 though. Lots of changes. Anyone can take down some bad guys now. Anyone can play the good guy now that there is a level playing field.

You'll probably say no, but this is what I do. I literally train people that have no PVP experience. Show them how to build, fight, and dominate.

Im close to 40 people Ive trained now through my streams. If you ever want to learn. The offer is out there, all you are anyone else has to do is ask.

Ill be more than happy to help you guys learn.

PVP is not as bad as people make it out to be. And its really quite fun. If you have no interest thats okay too. But if the tides ever turn. The doors are always open.

Abandon hope now...save yourself some bitter disappointment later!

Nah, frontier is kicking some butt with these beyond changes. Lets see how the handle Fleets and stuff in the Q4 update. If they dont fix this stuff. I promise im gone forever. The game wont even be worth my time if it stays the way it is now.

And I highly doubt its going to with the directions they are going with the level playing fields and all.

I think the changes they have put into this update are interesting...but I do not see them:

1. Improving the game for PVP players, there are definitely a lot of sticks being put into the game....but I'm not seeing any carrots for the PVP players. If they are naughty they get put into a time out.

2. Making a difference where anyone is going to play...i.e. modes.

We will see...but I have my ideas on how the new mechanics are going to work..and it does not look good for the PVP crowd.

Literally nothing changes for griefers.

At the same time. Nothing in the Karma system yet that we have seen. They have spoke about punishing combat loggers.

I think they are hitting a wide range of people. All pretty much based around the BGS. OooooOooOooOoo.

Hey those new ATR's you guys realize they arent there to stop gankers right? They are there to stop farming cops in one instance to tank BGS %'s.

They even said on live streams, they dont want people to stop ganking other people. They have been encouraging it.

And most "bad guys" want to live on the edge with those punishments. A lot of them welcome it.

then dont play online game when you cant stand other players. Unpleasant, toxic individuals are the best and keep pushing game forward. I see your point but blocking specific players is basically group mode in elite.

You misunderstood my post. I play pretty much exclusively in open, and my block list is completely empty. I want to block ONLY COMMUNICATIONS with people who post immersion-breaking toxic sludge in the comms constantly. I enjoy the threat of playing with “hostile” players though - it’s the main reason I play in open! In fact I have quite a few PVPers on my friend list who have been known to attack me.

The “block” function does indeed prevent these unpleasant communications, but unfortunately it also removes them from my game, which I don’t like.

Oh well. What I’m planning on doing now is doing my best to just ignore the comms of annoying players. But it really takes me out of the thrill of piloting a space ship when other players complain about stuff and are rude over the comms: not in-character rude, I actually like that...more like “LULZ ur engineering building is lame” stuff that reminds me I’m playing a video game with a pimply basement dweller, instead of battling a legendary space pirate...

I grew up with the Original games and prefer mostly playing on my own. For PvP dogfighting style combat I would much rather jump into War Thunder and face the frustration of joystick arcade battles against fly by wire mouse controlled fighter jocks than PvP in ED. For me it's just not that kind of game. In War Thunder I can jump in a fighter and be in a combat setting in moments and it's a lot more exhilarating and each battle is quite short and you have multiple planes per battle which really helps with the joystick handicap.

Most of the time I want to be alone and play solo, when I feel a bit more companionable I jump into the Mobius group. Where I have a few friends I sometimes hang out with when I have a few hours to spare. But most of the time I don't want to deal with other players. Probably my introverted nature, I don't really do small talk with random strangers very well.

Thanks for the responses, I'm sure there will be more, one thing did occor to me though.

When I heard ED was coming back and DBOBE was running a startup I jumped at the chance and I can honestly tell you that at no point did PvP even cross my mind! I just thought, Me + Panther Clipper + Galaxy + Explore - TAKE MY MONEY! :D

It's funny, I leapt on the Kickstarter precisely because it promised to be Elite but online, and to me that meant "Elite, but with the ability to shoot other players". If it had been sold as "Elite HD" then I wouldn't have backed it.

As for how it turned out? Well, I was having a great old time PvP-ing, right up until Engineers dropped. The game hasn't been the same since.

Bye, bye PvP just died
Engineered up to the eyeballs but I'm still gonna die
And them good ole boys were gittin gud modified
Singin' this'll be way that I fly
this'll be way that I fly

Dude you REALLY hate pvp.
Good news is with new engeneers only those with a death wish or the terminally lazy wont have a prefect pvp ship.
At last we will get to see if its the godrolls or the fact that most forum members have no understanding of combat.

I have a perfect explorer ship which has a little bit of engineering.

The amount of engineering doesn't dictate what I feel is a perfect ship you see.

There's a 3rd option darling, no taste for combat. I haven't had a gun on my ships for ages.

Please stay on topic and stop talking about yourself.
But he is his favourite topic.

He has trained 40 people you know, and he has a twitch channel that Frontier is glued to :D

One of the last things we need is an Explorer telling us how to balance and improve PVP. Thats what most of the issues are around here.

Everyone sticks their nose into the PVP conversation but dont really take part in any of it.

The explorers part of the forums is that way ----------------->

Its funny you seem to pop up every time there is a debate about PVP, or Open Private and Solo. When literally none of it concerns you.

Its hard for you to speak from experience and assert that experience. IF YOU HAVE NONE to begin with.

I disagree. He does forum PvP pretty well. And is always entertaining.

Lighten up maybe?

No, because thats some of the issues when it comes to this game the years. People are giving feedback on things and they have 0 experience in. Its one of the reason this game is in the shape it has been in, in the past few years. And one of the huge reason that Hand gernade about open private and solo has been around for so long.

Oh I'm sorry, did I post in the PvP forum?

Oh no, that is that way <-------

You don't tell me what and where to post kiddo. Buzz off :)

Im going to tell you and call you out on it. Because you have ZERO room to voice that opinion with the ZERO experience you have with the game.

Again the last thing we need is a janitor running for president.

In WoW I played on a PVP server, in ED I refuse to play in Open and participate in PVP, for one simple reason - the penalty for dying in ED is massive compared to other games (unless you have billions of credits). If ED wants to encourage Open world PVP, then they need to greatly reduce the cost to the participants.

Dude! It's not even your thread. The Op asked a valid question about why PvP isn't popular. You might have hijacked into being about the future of PvP, but you have no business telling someone who has a valid opinion in relation to the OP's question to leave.

I don't see anyone here treating you the same way. If you want strictly PvP players to post, perhaps you can make a new thread in the PvP section.
