What games would you like ED to shamelessly steal from?

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
EVE online a game that does everything better than Elite.

Nuh uh!! What about cockpits?!

Seriously, though, EVE does a lot well, and a lot not so well. Same as anything. EVE seems unmatched in its ability to bring together vast groups of players into one shared game environment and give them the tools and capacity to create their own little fiefdoms complete with copious amounts of drama and intrigue. That's impressive.

I would rather Elite concentrate on smaller-scale things, though, which is keeping in line with the core design philosophy already in place. Elite captures that feeling of being a solo spaceship captain better than anything else out there. I would rather it build on that than try to include even more MMO-ish components.

Which is why I think adding more narrative/story that caters to individual players would be ideal.

Let's just throw this one at the wall and see what happens:

Star Trek: Online

You know you want to walk around your ships as much as anyone else.

They've also got some pretty good mechanics for fleet and squadron management over there as well.

How about we mix in a little Grand Turismo - they've a great system for tuning and tinkering (Engieering), a dash of Final Fantasy (nobody does main-game-distractingly-addictive-mini-games like FF - try not playing around in the Gold Saucer, or playing Triple Triad, Blitzball or going Fishing), and SodaPop (Great for Supply and Demand (Trade/Mining) and Inventory Management (Trade) just go look it up: http://www.gamelabeducation.com/en/games/sodapop-game-2/).

I would say Planet coaster and the Dinosaur game from F.D. Something to ad a bit of atmosphere to the landings, when a T-Rex, takes a dump, on your SRV.

They already stole the Dyson ships’ designs and used them to fashion the Clipper.

In answer to the thread title OP, I'd like the one that contained some of the better elements of ED which FD discussed in the DDF then threw in the bin. :)

I'd be happy if Elite Dangerous had a baby with Evochron Legacy. Elite's galaxy, graphics, sound, overal tech, assets, but with Evochron's depth (and cockpits, I love Evochron's cockpits so much more).

They're the only 2 space sims even worth mentioning. If only the guy behind Evochron got some real artists to make those graphics look like XXI century...

^^ this but the main thing I'd like ED to adopt from Evochron is the flight model. The flight model in ED is the one thing I don't like about it. ED has Evochron beat in many other ways; heck in Elite we have the whole galaxy to fly around in.

I would also like to see hired crew that enhanced different aspects of the ships function. You don't see the faces of the crew in Evochron but each type has levels of experience and enhances things like exploration, engineering, weapons, etc.

There are parts of IW2 and Freespace I liked a lot but its been so long since I played those I can't recall except I liked those games too.

The Gambit system from Final Fantasy XII.

I know you're probably thinking "Are you crazy?!", but hear me out.

This would be used to NPC crew in ships and SLFs, for things like pip management and so forth. Example:

-If shields are being fired on and hardpoints deployed = WEP 2 ENG 1 SYS 3
-If shield is full, hardpoints out, weapons firing = WEP 4 ENG 1 SYS 1
-If shield is down = WEP 0 ENG 2 SYS 4
-If shield is full, hardpoints retracted = WEP 0 ENG 4 SYS 2
-If ship temp > 95% = Deploy heatsink
-If SLF hangar installed, hardpoints deployed = Launch SLF, set to Defend
-If SLF hangar installed, hardpoints deployed, enemy targeted = SLF attacks targeted ship
-I SLF deployed, hardpoints retracted = Recall SLF

Etc.

Really powerful tool for having NPC crew do exactly what you want them to when you want it.

Dwarf Fortress. Despite DF being a game made being made by a single coder, it still manages to set the top-tier benchmark for procedurally generated worlds and the storytelling they provide.

Mech warrior Mercenaries - Let me customize and build a mech that I can drop out of my ship. Open up ground combat and let the world feel alive. Allow mechs to shoot at ships and ships to return fire back.
Let me hire additional pilots to field multiple mechs and fly multiple ships. Give me a reason to have multiple ships!

X-Series Economy. I love economies and building one that removes the tedious tasks, that's just gravy.
