Can't keep a straight face when I read his headline:

err....so what happened to the old space plant? I'm guessing the juxtaposition of '49 million' and 'space plant' seemed too feeble even for the author, who then inserted the word 'new' in a futile attempt to soften the absurdity.

Agreed. If someone must fly space ships like you fly planes in war thunder arcade mode, ED is not for you. And for the mouse patrol there's always SC anyway.

Uh, I strongly disagree. I play with the mouse, and it's much better and responsive than my thurstmaster t flight x. Many people attempting to play ED are just bad pilots. Same goes with the people complaining how hard AI combat is, even through I have no combat problems with the standard sidewinder.
Fly with a mouse how? mouse as a virtual joystick or mouse as a zero order controller? I'm strictly referring to the later. As for the former I agree its perfectly valid and capable. By using the example of mouse in war thunder arcade mode the distinction is clear.
Rather than mine, I suspect the point of view that follows is the one you're challenging.

Remember: this is still a pre-alpha module! That means we still have plenty of work to do. The team is now working hard to add many planned features (like keybindings, scoreboards and additional ships) and also to improve what we’ve already created. In the coming weeks, expect to see a lot of work on game balance and Arena Commander’s game rules (where players spawn, how a kill is calculated, how the matchmaking server decides to connect users and the like.)
