General / Off-Topic Dropshipping - please explain

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Say you order 10 sprockets from bobsdiscountsprckets.com

Bob is a drop shipper. Bob doesn't actually *have* 10 sprockets on hand. In fact, Bob has zero.

What bob does is order those 10 sprockets from Amazon (or whoever) and has them shipped directly to you, or Bob gets them shipped to himself and then ships to you.

Bob sells sprockets over what you could buy them for yourself if you just went to another retailer. Bob is counting on you not researching the best price.

You still get your sprockets. Bob gets a profit. Everyone 'wins' per se, although you paid more than you could have.

That's drop-shipping.

Is this still a thing? In the age of the internet? Wow.

Just google 'drop shipping', pages full of how to set up a small business. Although large companies, well known retail chains to it to for mail order

That's the bit I don't get. Why don't they just go to AMAZON. The biggest ecommerce site in the solar system. So if the 'customer' wants to return the goods who is responsible to refund (YOU) the retailer are.

Posting to ebay was a job request.

I know people who got stiffed with washing machine. Pay up front but never received. Prices too low to be true.

Yes I get the wholesaler thing but from amazon to post on ebay?

there is a drops shipping in Elite?

I think it can apply to any product
And as for who does it any why? Well, I suspect it's laziness. "I know someone who's "selling" all different kinds of stuff, so rather than searching for the better price on the internet, I'm going to buy from them, because it's convenient."
Or something like this.

Buddy of mine drop-ships on Amazon. Basically, you go to Amazon, by box o' diapers from Seller A. Seller A orders them from Target who ships them to your house.

Guy's made millions.

How it works is you target people who aren't price-sensitive.

When I had my online retail business, there were even other businesses that used to drop-ship off of me. They made a profit, I made a profit, the customer got their product. It was win-win-win.

Amazon for some reason doesn't dig on drop-shipping, though it brings them untold millions of dollars of income every year.

The idea is (as with a good portion of retail), if you do enough business in volume, then you don't have to worry about the occasional hiccup, i.e. customers returning stuff, etc.

Why wouldn't a customer just go to Amazon? You're thinking too logically.

I, Joe the Consumer, decide that I want a bag of T-Shirts. I go to Amazon and look up T-Shirts and a listing pops up for ABC Shirt Guys. 3 T-Shirts, $25.
- Yep, those are the T-Shirts I want
- I have no interest in price shopping
- $25 sounds reasonable enough

I purchase the t-shirts from ABC Shirt Guys for $25, who then purchase them from Walmart for $15.

Why didn't I just go to Walmart.com and purchase them myself? Maybe I hate Walmart. Maybe I have Amazon Prime and want to get the most bang for my buck off the sub. Maybe I'm just not in the mood to futz around, those are the tees I want, and I have enough money to buy them.

In the end it's all about people who aren't price-sensitive.

I've chosen a wrong job. :D

I'm in the UK we have austerity

I will continue to think logically

I trust all the correct tax is paid.

There will always be lower priced items that are actually unable so here is a more expensive option. Oh go on then.

it still doesn't make sense.
