Kingdom Come Deliverance

They all look miserable.

Welcome to a warn-torn feudal society where life was cheap and death common. No hollywood smiles here it seems, which is a good thing imho.

I'll be looking out for what kind of modding scene develops for it, but so far have enjoyed a couple of let's plays i've seen on it and it looks like a game i'd be happy to buy, maybe after a few patches etc?

some people are actually really good at it.

Real archer here. That's almost traditional English barebow shooting (almost anyway he should have all his fingers under the arrow, his grip is right for other styles), anchor the arrow hand middle finger at the corner of your mouth. This gives you a fixed consistent point, then you use the arrowhead as a sight placing it directly over your target. A bow of average power at standard ranges will hit very close to the tip of the arrowhead viewed from your right eye using that shooting style.

To be honest I haven't come across any serious bugs, frame rate is fine for me (nVidia 980) I've seen a few clipping bugs but nothing game breaking

Yeah but your character is supposed to be a noob at the start of the game, most people couldn't hit that from that distance with that bow without a lot of luck or practice.

well didn't know that, but I like that you aint a superhero from the get go, maybe I'd give it a shot in the weekend.
Need a break from total war anyway :D

I like archery and swords myself a lot, mostly I'm more into crossbows, but I follow this guy on YT.
I believe he is an old SAS guy, but could be wrong.

Bow's are more challenging than crossbows (IMHO) all archery's loads of fun though. I shoot barebow the way he does as it's a rarity for me usually using a sighted recurve. The traditionalists don't like to see me do it though, the combination of wrong grip and accuracy rustles their jimmies.

I know, that's why I like crossbows :D

Some new crossbows "can" shot 200 yards, I'm not going to do that, to me 100 yards is more than enough.

I thought you used a Brown Bess when you did your time ;)

Yay for the modding community, they have stepped up quickly for this game.

It's much more enjoyable to play with some of the "tedium for realism" stuff removed, and with the combat system tweaked to be doable by less-than-hero-level abilities like mine. I'd much rather they had made the skill of the *character* the defining element, rather than the skill of the *player*.

Action-y combat in an RPG is just something I don't get on with, generally speaking.

But, with a few tweaks thanks to the modders, I'm now actually enjoying the adventure.

I'm using the 'save game' mod, too, so no more dying to a bug and losing 30 minutes of playtime (during which I leveled, and got some loot, and bought some armor, all of which would disappear if I couldn't save my darn game).

I really don't like having to mod a game from the get-go, but this time I'm making an exception. I kickstarted it way back when, so I want to play :)

That was fast, however it's good the modding community make these mods, because it only makes the game more enjoyable.

I think this is the core of the problem people are having.
It's what makes the difference betwen Dark Souls and Skyrim and can make or break a game for one, depending on what they enjoy.

Maybe putting a link where to get those mods wouldn't be a bad idea?

From what i understand from the worth a buy review its about training your character. You need to visit npcs who show you how to swordfight or use bows, or even read The more you practise with them the more skills you develop. This sounds really good, however i think most people have become accustomed in games to just having characters that have an inbuilt ability to fight and so will get frustrated that they are rubbish at fighting. This is an RPG so you need to role play what the character would do in real life.

Aye, I'd agree with that. KC Deliverance has the complexity of play last seen in Morrowind...rather than Oblivion or Skyrim... which seemed rather dumbed down by comparison. I can remember swinging a sword wildly at Umbra for nearly half an hour before he fell over, having to pay the fighter's guild a fortune to be able to weild anything bigger than cutlery too...and spending over a week desperately seeking a cure for Lycanthropy and hunting down 5 black soul gems for some witch or other before reading about a certain ring in Solstheim...

Skyrim kinda relegated that stuff and was lesser for it in the end. I always wished for Morrowind gameplay with Skyrim graphics... KC Deliverance gets pretty near that so far and I'm enjoying it accordingly.

I haven't delved into the alchemy side of Deliverance...but it looks pretty good (when I eventually learn to read the damned recipes) I'm picking plants up like a kleptomaniac let loose in a garden centre in the meantime.
