Since "Beyond" is now apparently Elite Dangerous 3.0 what exactly am I getting for my LEP?

The LEP also included the base game (40£ at release).
You have to add that in too if you want to calculate the total value.

I already had that. I think the LEP was on sale twice. I got mine September 2015 according to the receipt.

Mine was the LEP, the Horizons bonus and the Midnight Skins up to before the Beluga.

I paid £30 for the base game. So essentially have had £60 worth for £160 thus far over the last four years.

It's all just numbers though. Fingers crossed Beyond with be worth £30 too.

There was a £10 discount (to both Horizons and the LEP IIRC) if you already owned the base game (or bought it separately). I already owned the base game, I paid £120 for my LEP. Based on this I wouldn't consider the base game to represent any added value to my (discounted) LEP.

Ah, alright.
Well, sounds to me like with the next major (paid for) update LEP owners will have done better than just break even ?
Assuming we're looking at a 30-40£ price tag for that too.

EDIT: @Riverside, yeah, just checked on that, it was a 10£ discount. So perhaps break even won't be quite with the next expansion yet (but close), my bad.

Um...assuming a £30 price tag, I'd personally still be £130 down. But with 4 more major updates after Beyond, will be close to breaking even.

So....by 2034 at the current rate then? Little did I know that the value of my LEP would have to be "adjusted" for inflation by the time it proves a wise investment.

They'll ramp it up though, maybe knock a couple of years of that, I'm sure of it!

I can’t wait to see what may justify a 30-40£ price tag this time. I mean half of it is free anyway so they would need to put horizon size content into 2 minor updates on top of the free stuff that they are developing

Really? I report any and all posts by T.j. Doesn't everyone? :x

I report myself as well just to be safe...

I however, I backed the game day one of the kickstarter and as a bonus I got the LEP. So £100 for four years of {for me} amazing gameplay and fun has been worth every penny and in no way is cosmetics DLC.

I shall now report this post... :p

That life time pass was a "thank you" for backing the game, right? Why are some people acting as if they _bought_ it. They pledged and helped with getting development going which was the purpose of whatever they paid. The life time pass was what came along with their generosity, I thought.

In premium beta maybe yes, not for the one that was sold after release.

Pretty funny thread

I spent 10 times as much money on hardware to play ED than I spent for the LEP

At over 5k hours of game time, I'd say it's all been pretty cheap

Happy with my LEP as well.

Dude should only speak for himself.

If by "dude" you are referring to me as the OP then if you had read the thread (god forbid) you would have seen that I was not complaining, I am happy with having the LEP and was merely asking if anyone knew what the "future paid content" was going to be since the "beyond" update has turned out to be Elite Dangerous 3.0 and not as I had expected 2.5 (or whatever).

Since "Beyond" is now apparently Elite Dangerous 3.0 what exactly am I getting for my LEP?

Now I don't know if this has been raised before but I remember them saying there would be stages of "updates" free of charge but that there would be new paid content post 2.4 so I was surprised to note that this beta is for v3.0 of Elite Dangerous. Therefore I am wondering exactly what we LEP purchasers are going to receive this "season / whatever" in return for our not inconsiderable (in my case anyway) outlay?

Stuff.

Specidically, Stuff non LEPers will have to pay for.

A lower pledge tier didn't give you a LEP, a higher pledge tier did.
The difference in price between the higher and lower tier is what bought you the LEP.
Not sure what you're on about. It wasn't a giveaway (nor should it have been).
Plus, the LEP was later also sold separately for a short period of time.

Because some people did.

When horizons was released a few people including myself bought in at that stage to the tune of £120

Have to agree it was sneaky of FDev to suddenly change the name to "3.0" because OP you're right. They'll more than likely claim, in their next financials, that "Beyond 3.0" is now in fact another season DLC expansion, and one that is free for all out of the kindness of their hearts.

FDev pulled this trick of name-change-for-reasons before when they renamed Horizons to "early access" only after revealing it wasn't finished just before release. And did this again by going back and highlighting each of the incremental 1.x releases, together with more recent the 2.x releases, as suddenly being separate and unique expansion items. They pumped things up for their shareholders creating an illusion of massive amount of franchise releases, work, value and content. Oh well. Games people play. This is not unique to FDev.

OT of LEP: you need 2x more full price expansions to come out ahead if you bought into the LEP after release. This is the math. So every LEP buyer is still 'in the red' so to speak - having paid more than others for what has been developed so far.

What paranoid gibberish. How does that benefit the shareholders? Shareholders care only about the profitability of the company and the return on their investment.

LOL Nothing paranoid here! Just facts. It's called "marketing" and promoting your business to the point you just made of making the potential ROI look attractive. You probably haven't been reading FDev's financial reports over the years, have you?
