Since "Beyond" is now apparently Elite Dangerous 3.0 what exactly am I getting for my LEP?

LOL Nothing paranoid here! Just facts. It's called "marketing" and promoting your business to the point you just made of making the potential ROI look attractive. You probably haven't been reading FDev's financial reports over the years, have you?
That might work for potential players, but shareholders aren't going to be overly wowed by the prospect of a year's worth of free content. Like I said, they want to see profit growth and increased shareholder payouts. The rest is just fluff.

Investment sometimes means, you have to invest more than green.

Sometimes, it's about monitoring the value of beige.

I guess it depends how much skin you have in the game and how driven by the bottom line you are as a shareholder. It's stakeholders that make the real decisions, in real time. It seems, although I may be wrong, they understand the monetary aspect of fiscal investment by shareholders has been devalued by the roadmap changing. So yeah, it's about juggling right now, to raise the perception of value and the competence of the leadership.

I think in that sense, FD have managed very well. Long term, we may see evidence of learning having happened. Which will justify those decisions, and raise the share price through market confidence.

Fingers crossed.

Agree that from what we know of this year's expansion so far is that "Beyond 3.0" doesn't sound attractive to shareholders, does it? Sounds like a drain on resources and cash; it's a burden. So we should expect so see something pop out that costs $$. So 3.0 poses a bit of a problem if it doesn't somehow contribute revenue. Edit: or 3.0 could be spun into being described as a sustaining effort to generate cash from franchise sales / micro-transactions. Let's see how it's wordsmith'd in their next financial release.

But the other points of 1.x and 2.x being pumped up for 2016 and 2017 are valid. The reports themselves show just how they marketed these incremental updates to be presented as major content releases that were apparently fueling purchases = making revenue. No fluff. It worked out. They ended up attracting new investors and being infused with cash from Tencent.

If that £120 also covered the price of the base game you're up to £80 already - base game being £40 on release and Horizons also being £40 on release. You'll need one more update worth £40 and that will have fulfilled the £120 price tag you payed. Any subsequent payed updates after this are completely free icing on the cake.

For a 10 year plan of updates I'd say you got an incredibly fantastic deal seeing as how your £120 will potentially be fully covered in the 3rd to 4th year of the game. That means you're not even halfway to the full 10 years and your purchase will already have been fulfilled in terms of money spent for content delivered. I'd be fairly happy with that if I was around at the time when I could have gotten the LEP for £120.

Lol, we are already in the fourth year and only one expansion has been released.

Moreover, the designs for most of that content are being walked back and "fixed".

I just think of Beyond 3.0, in the same breath as Horizons 2.1. They really are the same thing to me, with some new development (planet landings), and some unprompted enhancement on core capability which are very much the good bits thus far (planet shading, graphic, sound Stellar Forge etc).

Mutli-Crew, C&P, Engineers, Powerplay. All up for re-working, rather than evolving.

Beyond we go. Onwards and outwards.

There's a lot of hostility here towards a reasonable question, that has been asked in a polite manner.

In answer to the question, Frontier have said they will be releasing paid-for content this year that will be covered by the Lifetime Pass...

I suspect the hostility is because the OP made an assumption about numbers that was wrong and now thinks the sky could be falling in rather than thinking, "Oh, they aren't numbering it the way I assumed".

If you are going to make disparaging remarks about me, at least check to see if they are warranted. Read the thread, you will see I was not complaining.

Sick and tired of this Dangerous Discussions cesspit pouring out abuse at the slightest opportunity.
