General / Off-Topic Dress code etiquette

I think it depends more on the public context.

For example; I wouldn't shave and dress up in a suit to go to the cinema on a day off but if I'm going to a business meeting.......... shave, suit, etc.

In business appearances count, casually out on the street I couldn't give a toss what people think of the way I dress or "look".

Yes; it totally depends on the circumstances.

i would say
- it is very unclear what 'smart casual' dressing actually means. it seems to be more a fashion thing
- the discussion probably needs a cultural/geographical context

Is it always necessary to appear 'smart' particularly in public?

No. If by 'in public' you mean 'just out and about'.
Just wear what you're comfortable in.

I'm smart-casual btw, also on days off or in the pub: I like jeans, a button-up shirt and a nice blazer wherever I go. I feel way more comfortable in that than in a sweater or pullover or whatever. But to each his own. Just put on what makes you feel good.
I only judge people by the words they speak, not the fabrics they wear.

It's appropriate to be "properly" dressed for any given occasion so as to not feel "out of place."

As far as "smart" - not sure that dress makes as much sense as an old saying I learned early on:

"You can remain quiet and let everyone think you're stupid, or you can open your mouth and prove it."

Spotted four guys dressed as pirates on the Holloway rd acting in overtly in a pirate fashion. Is dressing as pirate a thing now?

Of course you are judged by what you where at all times.
I was required to wear full school uniform from the official supplier in all weather conditions . The one time on sponsored 'non uniform' caused chaos when some would turn up with there Sergio Tacchini tops and laud it over other who wore a non branded item.

Should there be some casual smart casual options for the Holo me Avatar? (Oh look I've tied this post back to Elite :)

In the fashionista scene - There really is I think - Only one golden rule ... ?

I look like a tramp most days :D

I let my hair and my beard grow until they start to annoy me and then I clip the hair to 10 mil and trim the beard... then the process repeats.

I work in a law firm office and they have a smart dress code, with ties and everything. I just ignore it to be honest. I wear smart trousers and shirt, but also my Osiris trainers and a hoodie or a jumper. If they value stupid dress code more than my skills, they can sack me ;)

I never really cared about dressing "to a standard/code". People say it's lack of respect not to dress appropriately, but I say the respect is what you do and how you behave, and not what you are wearing. Maybe I can't afford nice clothes? Screw the dress code!
