Dress how you like but don't fall for this one!?

Brett's going to go nuts when he notices you've been stealing his holiday snaps.

Is it always necessary to appear 'smart' particularly in public?

My wife does her best to make me presentable. She buys me nice clothes often. Then i just reach into the wardrobe and pull out jeans and a t-shirt.

She says "Do you remember you have that nice sweater i bought you?"

Me: "Yes"

Her: "Why don't you wear it then?"

Me: "Because its not at the front of the wardrobe"

One day she will understand that if she wants me to wear something she likes, all she needs to do is strategically place it at the front of the wardrobe, at eye level.

I have many beautiful shirts, which are into the wardrobe since years, and which never go out

I often wear the same things. The habit probably

Maybe a little indifference and laziness, too ?

supplementary question. If you enter a shop do you feel the need to 'buy something' before leaving or just go there and talk to the staff?

I look like a tramp most days :D

I let my hair and my beard grow until they start to annoy me and then I clip the hair to 10 mil and trim the beard... then the process repeats.

I work in a law firm office and they have a smart dress code, with ties and everything. I just ignore it to be honest. I wear smart trousers and shirt, but also my Osiris trainers and a hoodie or a jumper. If they value stupid dress code more than my skills, they can sack me ;)

I never really cared about dressing "to a standard/code". People say it's lack of respect not to dress appropriately, but I say the respect is what you do and how you behave, and not what you are wearing. Maybe I can't afford nice clothes? Screw the dress code!

Are you 'client facing' ?

If I see people with long hair and beards I just assume they are UNiX Devs.

It depends on the circumstances. I, in RL, am an EPoS engineer. One of the events I regularly look after is Royal Ascot. There I have to wear full morning suit regalia (top hat, tuxedo, waist coat, pinstripe trousers, and so on). When I am working normally I wear a dark suit (my choice, but as I am one of the public faces of the Company I work for I feel that a smart appearance leads to a good impression), but otherwise it is normally jeans and a T shirt.

Work in a 24/7 shift environment. M-F early and late turn expected to wear a shirt + tie and smart trousers (which the organisation provides). On nights, weekends and "dress down" days can wear smart casual including jeans - so long as you haven't just come from walking The Ridgeway and polo or sweat shirt providing these are unbranded (i.e. no sports or death metal connections!).

Outside of work, the only time I wear a shirt and tie is at funerals...

I could definitely dress more 'smartly' I suppose. I'm normally quite utilitarian. Jeans and a polo shirt along with some middle-tier sneakers. I think my biggest problem is lack of variety. I have a bunch of polos, for instance, and they're all pretty much in the same color spectrum zone. lol. I think I could look a lot better if I just expanded that range a bit, got a few more button down shirts, and maybe a pair of pants that isn't denim. :)

I wear jogging bottoms and plain T-shirts with the specific aim of blending in. I want to NOT be seen.

It's funny though. I would dress "smart"... But I can't for my own safety.

Last time I did, well eventually I got mugged, because I stood out. I'm lucky to be alive actually. That thug could easily have had a weapon.

Long story short, I make myself look bottom of the barrel because that is the only way to survive at the bottom. Especially when all the other bottom feeders know you're "different" and prey on you for this.

Luckily, I've lasted a year now without being bothered. No conflict, no punch-ups.

I want to dress smart... I really do. But if I did I actually think I wouldn't be alive. This place is rough...

It's why I don't judge people on looks. Far more important things to worry about. Actually, the scruffy people are usually the best.

That's nasty!

Worst look ever according to this guy:

He doesn't stand out and the shirt and tie make the ensemble.

'many times' - wow.
I have to say, I've never been mugged or assaulted or anything. (thankfully). Maybe I'm just lucky.

OR...
Maybe I just look like a right bad, er, dude... Or I just look like I'm not worth the trouble.

Either way, huzzah I guess. :)

If what you wear is not important why do cmdrs spend money on customising there ship and time to make there cmdr look cool.

Not an option in GB.

Ain't that the truth. I sometimes cycle in and out of work and going home off Late Turn (in my shirt and tie!) can be very perilous. The path I use (Western Flyer in Swindon) has seen at least one murder and a number of assaults. But even if I only carried a small can of antiperspirant in lieu of pepper spray, if I used it in anger I'm more likely to get prosecuted than the person attempting to mug me.

(Sorry for the slightly OT veer). Well I suppose it could fit into ED Crime & Punishment!
