Frontier, Please Don't Kill Our Crew!

If the reason for killing off the crew was because FD thought that having "immortal" NPC crew would result in too many of them elite-rated, then I would suggest that they rank up at the same rate as players.
This would also then treat the NPC crew and Commanders much more equally...

Just my 2p, keeping things simple

- NPC have a random chance of perma-death reducing as they become more experienced (avoiding death as well as shooting things)
- Surviving NPCs have chance of a negative effect (loose level, unable for x time due to hospitalization etc, demand once off danger pay etc)
- If spawning at detention facility - NPC is considered perma-dead (locked up for a very long time due to inferior representation) or requires payment of fine

It's a good point.

Perhaps also upon reaching Elite and or a certain gross earnings threshold NPC crew become increasingly likely to execute the buy-out clause in their contracts and become CMDR's with their own ships?

Thus the player could get a 1 month notice period to begin training up a replacement.

In retrospect it's a shame there was nothing about this in the recent Livestream Q+A. I don't know if there were any questions about it in the thread, but definitely none made it into the Q+A if so.

Well, at least this thread is providing a lot of visibility.
I asked. The question was ignored in the livestream, while others posted after mine were used. I took it to mean that nothing is being done.

Even planet side the protests were huge!

Once again, folks, thank you for keeping this thread alive. There are a lot of solid suggestions in here, many of which Frontier might want to consider adopting. I was sad to read of one person who asked about that during a livestream and was ignored. I encourage you to keep asking ... maybe they'll eventually get the drift that this issue is of significant concern to a great many players.

3.0 final patch notes are out....no mention of fixing the asinine SLF pilot issue that over 200 customers on these forums have complained about.

ED NPC pilots have a shorter lifespan than XCom soldiers. I don;t understand why they chose to use human NPCs, just make it a drone AI so they can be truly expendable instead of putting a human without flying skills in a glass bb gun. I just feel sorry for the guys....

SANDRO HAS JUST REPLIED IN THE OTHER THREAD

Hello Commanders!

I'm fairly sure that I've mentioned this topic on more than one occasion. Oh well, once more, with feeling!

We have some ideas for preventing fighter crew death whilst retaining some form of jeopardy, but we haven't got round to implementing them.

Clearly we don't want a situation where crew can always be saved, this would mean that everyone would only ever hire one or two fighter crew. However, we accept that the current situation is too harsh in terms of investment versus risk. Look for more information in a future update.

I have joined in the thanks in the other thread. It's usually enough for me as a person just to know that Frontier are working on something. I look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Was just about to paste Sandy's comments, so thanks for doing it ahead of me. Hopefully, their solution will come sooner than later!

What if your crewmate got picked up by pirates after a certain amount of time and was whisked away to a far flung planet where Running Man style games took place on the daily for the entertainment of a baying crowd. The spare RNG that's left laying around after the engineer change could then be put back to good use to arbitrarily decide if your crew member survives the games, or not.

You had me until the RNG....
