If the reason for killing off the crew was because FD thought that having "immortal" NPC crew would result in too many of them elite-rated, then I would suggest that they rank up at the same rate as players.
This would also then treat the NPC crew and Commanders much more equally...
How many pages needed for a FD response? Are there any plans to look at this please guys?
I asked. The question was ignored in the livestream, while others posted after mine were used. I took it to mean that nothing is being done.In retrospect it's a shame there was nothing about this in the recent Livestream Q+A. I don't know if there were any questions about it in the thread, but definitely none made it into the Q+A if so.
Well, at least this thread is providing a lot of visibility.

3.0 final patch notes are out....no mention of fixing the asinine SLF pilot issue that over 200 customers on these forums have complained about.
Hello Commanders!
I'm fairly sure that I've mentioned this topic on more than one occasion. Oh well, once more, with feeling!
We have some ideas for preventing fighter crew death whilst retaining some form of jeopardy, but we haven't got round to implementing them.
Clearly we don't want a situation where crew can always be saved, this would mean that everyone would only ever hire one or two fighter crew. However, we accept that the current situation is too harsh in terms of investment versus risk. Look for more information in a future update.
What if your crewmate got picked up by pirates after a certain amount of time and was whisked away to a far flung planet where Running Man style games took place on the daily for the entertainment of a baying crowd. The spare RNG that's left laying around after the engineer change could then be put back to good use to arbitrarily decide if your crew member survives the games, or not.
