Hey, Frontier, if you have a minute*, can you add in some nebula graphics for the known nebulae out there?

Heh, thanks for that. I've been "correcting" my use of the word so much that I tend to lose sight of its correct use from time to time. [hehe]

Cheers.

Yes please. More accurately shaped nebulae would be great. ( Based on current photos )

Although current photos are 2d and only taken from one POV ( I can't imagine why :p ) exactly what they look like from other angles would be just guess work.

It would be really cool if Frontier could take photographs from Hubble and then procedurally generate 3D nebula from these. After seeing the developer video on Thargoid swarms, this seems like the kind of problem that FDev would greatly enjoy solving. If they need a show of hands before committing resources to this, then I raise mine in support of the OP.

All the nebulae I take pics of are generally in-line with Sol as best as they can reasonably be, at least. This is what I've cataloged of real nebulae in the game so far...

I support this.

Thanks man – you and all the others too. The galaxy representation and the nebulae within it mean a lot to me. I know Frontier have put a lot into it and I'm certainly grateful for that, but likewise the shortcomings come through pretty well as well for those of us who have an interest and calling for such things.

I go exploring primarily in a fully combat loaded Vulture for my own reasons, so reaching these points of interest is a huge deal to me. Before this game I used to lose myself in the galaxy in the astronomy space sim Celestia and try and find my way back to Sol and earth by visual triangulation alone. Since then in this game I've learned invaluable information about the relative positions of know stars and nebulae. It's been amazing, and yet I know there is the potential for much more.

The reality of what the cosmos hold is beyond belief until you've experienced it in context and first hand. As great as the game is, it is my wish for this potential to be realized to the best that it can viably be.

I think this is something that draws many of us to the game, beyond just the cool sci-fi setting and piloting our own ships in this sweet self-indulgent fantasy. :)

This is speculation, or course, but I would guess that reflection nebulae like the Pleiades should be very common in regions packed with dense clusters of bright stars near the plane where there is a lot of dust in the interstellar medium. It would be neat to have both more variety but also just more nebulae, both reflection types in the core, as I mentioned, but also emission nebulae added to parts of the galaxy where they seem to be missing, like the far northern and eastern parts of the galaxy

It's down to a point of view sort of thing and our current observations being based from Sol. I can see why they're not implemented to an extent, but, generally speaking, you make a great point. I don't want to load down Frontier beyond their viable potential though, if you know what I mean.

Nebulae are quite disappointing in my opinion. They're mostly shapeless puffs without detail or resolution, nothing like the stunning pictures found on google:

While I know these are false colour images, so are the representations of the nebulae we see in game...

This should be the Eagle Nebula, which looks quite different in the game. BUT that should actually be the case because the Eagle Nebula we see through our telescope is an image from a few thousand years back and though it's beautiful, it will not look quite that impressive anymore, but really more like what we see ingame.

I'd also like more variety though, and the fact that many nebulas we see ingame wouldn't even be perceivable with the naked eye is on one hand meh, because... Science! but when I think about it, that would be pretty boring. I guess our ship's systems fix that for us, or our eyes themselves changed thanks to bio engineered adaption to space life.

Nothing wrong with adding this, But.... With so many issue that need fixing in the game do we really need them to spend time on more eye-candy ?

I am pretty sure there are different people designing gameplay features and eyecandy. So, yeah... I think it would be worth it. :)

If anything... All the ones I've visited looked extremely unspectacular and super low-res when nearby or inside. Like the Game couldn't handle anything more than a blurry 512x512 Texture or something.

IMHO that's a huge letdown, these things have to look jaw-dropping when nearby.
Some Ultra Textures and HDR applied to them sure would help. Preferrably without the need to manually tweak Config files or run Postprocessing Reshade tools.

I originally planned to visit a whole bunch, but after seeing how extremely poor they look (Ultra Settings), I quickly dropped that plan. No point in seeing ugly, blurry Graphics resembling Games from the DirectX 7 era.

I think visibility must definitely be augmented, enhanced, and regulated somehow through our ships' canopies or similar, especially considering when jumping close to stars in the game without us being vaporized and the like.

The timing of this thread is appropriate. This season of ED is called Beyond, probably because much of it is focused on improving exploration (the things 'beyond' the bubble). Many of us go exploring for the majestic sights, and nebula could really use a buff. This really hit home for me when I recently went to Colonia and started seeing the same nebula 'pattern' reappear over and over again.

Just so. Many of the same assets seem reused for the nebulae out there. Would hope for more, after all, we are the ones who explore, and this is what we find. This is what we have found.

You all do realize that these pretty images of nebulae are the result of long exposure and sometimes false coloration?
In reality you should see nothing, with a few exceptions.

You did read the thread? Come on now. Some of us are a lot more knowledgeable than we pretend to be... ;)
