New COVAS voice pack on the store (so new voice packs are going to be store items then)

Worth noting that great though the HCS voicepacks are - they work through voice attack - which as I and several others have noted before does not work very well for Scottish folk (and I suspect Geordies and N Ireland). It requires the patience to completely reteach the microsoft voice package that it sits on to understand Scottish (reminds me of the Blackadder scene where he starts to teach the German guards English) - I for one can't be bothered with that and hope we see a new MS speech engine soon (Cortanna, Siri et all are very, very good with accents in contrast).
This is a nice alternative that will freshen up the computer voice ingame - bit like paint jobs etc do , how anyone can see it as "pay 2 win" is beyond me - You'll subdue SDC with your computers new voice ?

no doubt you've seen this before, but made me chuckle :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAz_UvnUeuU

NOT COOL FRONTIER

I will never buy one from you. You are deliberately trying to take business away from another company.
I wish I could say this is the first time you've done this, but it isn't.

NOT COOL FRONTIER.

Please step away from the Kool Aid.

Honestly Verity still sounds the best, don't know what the issue is.

Oh, and voices are now much clearer, so that's a plus.

I got Celeste via HCS and really like the voice, I prefer something a little more human than the more automated AI sounds, but have been surprised by how many seem to dislike the accent.

Oh, so not just me then. It's not that accents are bad, but I can barely understand Celeste. Sometimes an accent can be too thick and smother the words. At least I could understand Victor, even if I prefer a woman in the cockpit.

Well now that there's been time for the servers to come up and people to fly around with it for a bit, how's the new in-game Celeste COVAS merge/sync/work with the HCS VA Celeste, for those that own both? That's my biggest concern, whether or not the fidelity between the two is close enough that it seems like it's all coming from your ship.

The HCS packs won't currently work with Beyond 3.0, there's a big update due tomorrow (or in the next few days, depending on testing,) so as yet no-one really knows beyond how we remember the HCS Celeste voice....9.30am was so long ago ;)

I love the idea that Celeste (Engineering & Helm for me in the Singularity Beta) can merge with the other facets of AI interaction with my only real worry being how much overlay there may be between the HCS pack voices and FD game voices i.e. two voices both talking at the same time. I assume, with HCS working in partnership, that Sabrina Ruiz also voiced the game version of Celeste...though I don't know this as a fact.

All in all I jumped right in....just a shame Celeste is currently stuck in the server void somewhere between Stream and my AspX.

Wasn't aware that the Singularity hasn't gone out yet. I only have Verity for HCS (wanted it to jive with the in-game computer, of course! :) ), and haven't been playing around with VA as much as I should. But I've been stuck at work all day unable to do much more than read the boards.

I dunno if it's the videos that I'm watching or what but it sounds like the COVAS version's accent is thicker than the HCS version, based on the vids I'm watching. Was wondering how it played out in game. :)

Guess I wait and see.

I think it is a mistake to have these paid content cosmetic extras that have no effect in game tied to the Livery menu, thus limiting the consumers ability to actually use what they paid for, but I can stretch it for Paint Job and ship kits for ships, but for all the stuff in the cockpit such as bobbleheads, string lights, and now the voice packs? Those are things I am just not in the bubble nearly enough to ever make use of. The same can be said for the SRV paintjobs...it is stored on the inside of my ship...why can't I paint it during my deep space journeys?

That's a fair point, it's not as if you won't have a locker on your Anaconda that's big enough to hold a four inch tall plastic Christmas tree, a tiny model of David Braben, some fairy lights, eight ping pong balls and a few model spacecraft. :D

just picked it up and installed the voice to my ship in the livery menu but I don't hear any difference. same ship computer voice as usual.
not sure what's up with that.

This is true, but how would you manipulate them into place around your console with your holo-me telepresence hands? ;)

Y'know I bought the new ship voice "Celeste" and its made me want the Celeste HCS voicepack to go with it now!

So its done HCS a favour and advertised the voice, I see this as win-win for HCS.

Now if you'll excuse me I seem to be having trouble stopping flying round stars just to hear "Fuels scooping complete!" ... [big grin]

I've never tried a voice pack before (HCS), and I'm curious now. Is it mainly relevant to voice attack commands, or is it worth getting even if I don't use a microphone? In other words, what do I get exactly with it?

Voice Attack + HCS voicepacks let you issue vocal orders to your computer : it can be command activation ("deploy weapons" will deploy hardpoints for instance) or random chat ("what is your name ?" will trigger an audio response, "My name is Celeste").

A voicepack without a microphone sounds kinda useless. You'll need a mic, Voice Attack and a Voice pack to use it properly.

OMG i cant believe people pay extra for that
I'll definitely buy one.. when there's a voicepack I like - I bought A.S.T.R.A for my VA. :D
Everyone places their own monetary value on something to decide if it's worth getting or not.
Some people, for example, are happy to fork over 5 Euro for a bunch of white lights on their cockpit. I'm not. :p

Well said sir.

Everyone has their own individual perception of "value". I class the new COVAS as worthwhile, to me personally, for the complete change it makes to the the cockpit ambience. [up] Its also nice that there is a choice in voices now as you can select different ones for your SRV/SLF. I'll also pass on the lights though.

Going to check it out when I get home.

I totally approve of this. Charging for them will encourage more of them to be developed. The more the better. I love the idea of each of my ships having a distinct personality.

HAL is a MUST.

Douglas Rain is alive and well here in Kanuckia.

I'm on Xbox and I have the same issue after purchasing Celeste. It is not the same voice or accent as in the Livery sample. I'm not sure if I need to be submitting a ticket or not.
