surrounded on all side by maybe 20 somethings.
I'll tell that to my customer base tomorrow. "Don;t worry we'll sort it out in a few months, it's same with all tech it never works right at the beginning! "
There's a reason where I work we have test labs, quality assurance labs. It's because we want to be professional not look like amateurs.
Not missing the point, just disputing it as a problem of your own making.
Short answer - If you want thargoids then wing or get a big ship. There is plenty of game that isn't thargoids. In fact they are a small part of it. One of many stories. It's like saying you want to fight thargoids but not use AX or guardian weapons and want to stick to normal lasers and multicannons.
Again, ain't gonna happen, you've limited your game by your own choices.
The throttle not updating issue is already reported numerous times since 3.0 came out... hopefully it'll be addressed in 3.0.01.
As for being attacked while stuck in the transition, you may want to raise a bug report for that yourself, especially if you can reproduce it.
[h=2]Feeling concerned for the game.[/h]
Was Emarketed as MMO? I don't think so - at least not early on. I remember the kickstarter campaign quite well and there was even talk of an offline version... (and many people backed exactly because of this proposed (I didn't say 100% promised) offline-version). What was promised, was that this game could be equally played solo or open - but this has changed it seems... which is a shame, I think.
No, the GAME has limited his choices FOR HIM. And its done the same to me.
See, some people have jobs, families and interests OUTSIDE of Elite. And for us, we dont have the option to spend countless hours driving around in an SRV, shooting stationary pillars and staring at little blue lights. To say nothing of the dozens of loading screens we have to sit through in order to get there.
By choosing to lock Thargoid content behind this sort of time gating, you make it unavailable to me. And to lots of others as well. Hence, I have no interest in it. And a drastically reduced interest in this non interactive dumpster fire of a loading screen sim, to be honest.
I will check back in six more months. See if perhaps someone at Frontier is capable of turning this collection of loading screens, RNG gambling and time gating into a halfway coherent game. Frankly, I dont hold out much hope, but thats ok; I have limited Hard Drive space, so, if Beyond doesnt do better going forward, I can always occupy it with fun games instead of Elite.

I just had a super nice roast dinner.

Hmm, good call, you are right, kickstarter mentions multiplayer a fair bit but not MMO. And yes offline mode was quite a kick in the teeth. Personally I'd have preferred it if Elite was a solo game like the old ones but hey-ho here we are
I was going on the current advertising which heavily references MMO:
I mean the first sentence of the steam description is: Elite Dangerous is the definitive massively multiplayer space epic
Same sentence albeit lower down on the Frontier store page, not sure about console advertisement tbh.
That being said I'd not exactly call Elite an MMO, sadly it drifts somewhat between RPG, Action Adventure, Arcade, Simulator, MMO and Nostalgia with elements of all of them and in many ways the game seems disjointed. On the other hand it's got broader appeal than it would otherwise have but also leads to more disappointment.
I'm definitely not saying the game is perfect, in fact there's plenty wrong with it at the moment, but in this instance I feel it's more user-error than design error.
Lol you clearly don't get it. Thargoid content in 5 minutes, join Open or Mobius, hit up with a wing of 4 Cobras or whatever small/medium ship and have at it. There's no time gate at all hence the problem that the OP got his butt kicked in an underpowered ship without a wing for backup. If there was a time-gate locking the content then he wouldn't have been able to get in there in the first place now would he?
OP has chosen to avoid PG/open and therefore limited his options in the same way he can't do PvP or PwP etc. The same way they can't join DW3303 or be rescued by the Fuel Rats or encounter Harry Potter. Its a choice the OP has made. I doubt there's a super-villain at Frontier with a maniacal laugh saying "this'll keep the noobs out" when they added Thargoids.
Lots of people want a challenge for their super engineered ships and their wings. Others want fish in a barrel. The game has both, stop trying to take the challenge away arguing it's content locking, it is not. It's content for someone that's not you right now. It's like me arguing collection limpets should be removed because I haven't got the internal slots in my sidewinder for them, they weren't implemented for the sidewinder so it's user error not game design error.
Some of the strong stuff is possible to solo with lots of time and the biggest ships/engineering yes. But it's equally accessible earlier if you choose to wing.
Ok byeee! See you next week when you quit again!
You can buy AX weapons right now without visiting the ruins, with the class 3 AX multicannons and a suitable ship you can hunt cyclops all day long. So yes, you can participate in thargoid content without grinding stuff. If you want guardian weapons, you need the materials, but you can have it in 2-3 hours, it´s not a big deal..... plus there are threat 3-4 with few scouts in it, perfectly manageable for a non enginereed ship with normal weapons, etc.
gain, I'm playing solo, so there's no wings to join. I doubt I'm the only one. I'm not flying a ship incapable of defending itself. It's a Federal dropship. The shields, engines and such are engineered. It's a tough little ship. It has NO chance of winning ANY fight with ANY thargoid content.
Now, I'm not saying there shouldn't be content as difficult as I've seen so far... it's just that there's NOTHING ELSE. There needs to be something for everyone.
Imagine joining a football league. You go in expecting to have some fun against a tough opponent, but when you get there, your opponents are the Dallas Cowboys, who walk all over you. Your next match, you get on the field to find the opposition, the Buffalo Bills, have been playing for 20 minutes while you weren't on the field. You hope maybe you'll eventually face a team that you have a chance of competing with... but no, every team is WAY beyond you.
Now, would you enjoy playing in that league? Would you CONTINUE playing in it, and getting pulverized constantly? I rather doubt it.
I did play the original Elite, and did face Thargoids occsionally... and you know what, I was able to defend myself in my trading ship. I didn't HAVE to have ultramegasilly elite special weapons or equipment that precludes me doing ANYTHING else in the game but fighting Thargoids. Sure, we shouldn't be able to defeat them in a Sidewinder (maybe an exceptionally skilled pilot could...), but mine is a combat ship, with decent to good weapons and engineered defenses... and I had NO CHANCE.
A
ou see, I'm not interested in putting magic weapons on my ship, I like the gear I'm using. That I have no choice but to use these special weapons (which are locked behind one or another grind) is part of the problem. They should HELP, but not be REQUIRED.
Y
didn't say THAT exactly... I'm just saying this is something I'm concerned about. I want to see the game do well, but I don't think blocking off so much significant content from the masses is going to promote that.

If you write a buzzfeed style click bait title that SAYS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the content of the thread, it’s likely that some will respond to the title. Next time, write a proper title.
If you ordered fish and chips, you should bug report it
