Canopy Strengthening - Engineer Blueprints Please.

It's not the first time this will have been suggested but a current thread about the Chieftains chocolate canopy motivated me to post this up.

How about some basic engineered strengthening mods for ship canopies?

Perhaps a Grade 1 - 3 only mod giving up to a 50% increase in strength.

Specials maybe on thermal, kinetic damage etc and reducing the associated loss of visibility by using rare materials.

Balance increased integrity with reduced FOV (armour plating instead of "glass") and increased opacity (thicker "glass").

Kinetic/Explosive = more armour plating

its pretty necessary now.
weapons keep getting more and more powerful but for some reason the canopy's seem to be getting worse and worse.
 
I don't get it, mine's a hybrid and spends about a third of every major encounter with its shields down absorbing punishment, and I've never lost my canopy or even cracked it.

Are you guys running 2 MRPs? If not, don't fight with your shields down.

I'm not against the idea of engineering the canopy for durability though, as long as it has a heavy weight penalty.

Just equip an Afmu.

i posted a thread on this today and its getting sad.
firstly, for those who have little to no understanding of game mechanics MRP's don't affect canopy.
and secondly the canopy on the chieftain is dropping at %90 and often on the very first rail-gun volley.

ashen, ive dealt with you before, so trust me that the chieftain canopy is weaker then anything you have ever encountered.

Anyway, I really like the OP's idea. It could be implemented as an MRP mod, since canopies are not shown in Outfitting, and currently there are no MRP mods.

Yes love this idea.

The asp scout amoung many flaws also has a realy weak canonpy and is the main reason i gave up on it. Would be a good soulution to have canopy shielding on mrps as a blueprint

I've not spent a lot of time with the chief and i built it from my A rated FAS but 2 trips to my nav beacon spot and 2 blown canopies. So I'm on board with a canopy upgrade idea......and of course learning not to lead with my face when the shields go down. I'm used to the FAS and never had a canopy issue.
 
yeah they could make them have a few different mods like.

reinforced: that adds more health vs breaker limpets.

Heat shielded: reducing the amount of damage taken by overheating.

extended scooping: which allows to pick up roaming cargo by a wider angle and longer range.
this could help smaller ships or pirates with no space for a limpet module.

I don't like the idea of Canopy strengthening blueprints, but Canopy Reinforcement Modules are a thing I could stand behind

Yes ^^ this, it's why canopy appears on the modules list alongside cargo hatch, FSD, thrusters and everything else that isn't hull.

You can 'deal' (Gribley beat my not very well prepared ship relatively easily in my very first pvp fight) with as many pilots as you want, doesn't mean you understand the game better than me. Just means you've had more practice at pvp. I'm a theorycrafter, so trust ME, when I tell you that MRPs do affect canopy resistance. ;)

P.S. I'm ready to go again whenever you are. ;)
