Canopy Strengthening - Engineer Blueprints Please.

I don't like the idea of Canopy strengthening blueprints, but Canopy Reinforcement Modules are a thing I could stand behind

And why?

That would be a complete waste of module slots. Not all ships have as many slots as Anacondas and Cutters. It's already all too stupid that you have to have a separate module slot for every single wretched scanner, when they could simply have built into the Planetary Approach Suite instead. I fly small combat ships most of the time and this is why I virtually never have an ADS with me.

It's not the first time this will have been suggested but a current thread about the Chieftains chocolate canopy motivated me to post this up.

How about some basic engineered strengthening mods for ship canopies?

Perhaps a Grade 1 - 3 only mod giving up to a 50% increase in strength.

Specials maybe on thermal, kinetic damage etc and reducing the associated loss of visibility by using rare materials.

Balance increased integrity with reduced FOV (armour plating instead of "glass") and increased opacity (thicker "glass").

--------------

Thermal = increased opacity
Kinetic/Explosive = more armour plating

Yeah i guess we all could need a module, that would protect our canopy. We should name it than Module Reinforcement Package.
It is a Module, that gives 60% damage reduce to our canopy, when stacked 2 of them it will be around 84% damage reduce. The MRP should take the damage instead.
We really need this! Please fix

At first I thought you are u/Mini_Watto, but apparently not ...

You can get some more understanding of game mechanics regarding this here:

This so much!!

You can 'deal' (Gribley beat my not very well prepared ship relatively easily in my very first pvp fight) with as many pilots as you want, doesn't mean you understand the game better than me. Just means you've had more practice at pvp. I'm a theorycrafter, so trust ME, when I tell you that MRPs do affect canopy resistance. ;)

P.S. I'm ready to go again whenever you are. ;)

oh god, that info makes me more angry than i was about the canopies.
if that's the case then the canopy on the chief is either so insanely weak that the MRP does nothing to stop the damage (IE it pops on the first railgun/PA volley) or its bugged beyond belief.

its long been an assumption held by the PvP'ers that MRP does nothing for canopy as that's what has been observed so much. even with the FAS people can lose their canopy on the first volley (its just extremely rare) and now with the chief and tonnes of people are losing canopy on first volley (watch my vid of it going when my hull is at %92 when i had a class 5 MRP) its pretty plain something is either horribly wrong, or poorly made.

[edit] im down for a rematch anytime. if you hit me up ingame and im not busy on something ill take a trip to founders and we can have another go.

firstly, for those who have little to no understanding of game mechanics MRP's don't affect canopy.

This is wrong, the canopy is counted as an internal by mrps, i have tested it stacking 2 mrps drastically improve canopy.

Slighty off topic: would targeting the life support target the canopy? I cant test it till this weekend, if so would it be a good idea to B rate it and shield/reinforce mod it?

Must be the occasional direct damage from hull hits that's confusing you. More common with the stronger PvP weapons and frequent hull damage.

After all these ships only have 30 raw canopy integrity.

No. Different module.

As a DBS/Vulture pilot & now the Chieftain, primarily...I approve of this message!

*Apparently, I have to spread the rep around.

...hmmm! 'Could be difficult in here!

I must admit I don't quite get that: how does something you stick in a internal bay have the ability to strengthen the canopy?

same way hull reinforcement modules work on the hull while taking up an optional internal slot or module reinforcement modules work on the modules while being in an unrelated optional internal slot or the same way that the ship slows down after you boost with flight assist off... not saying these are all things I agree with, but it's a game and for the sake of simplicity of developing the game code, FDev choose to implement things like this :(
