Offset by itself is not the issue. Offset coupled with canopy which is somewhat made for centerline placed pilot is.
Its a good job you never had to fly a b29 or a multitude of other ww2 aircraft.

...Python is not a medium ship...
It's initially a little jarring, but for me it's not an issue.
Perhaps using a headtracking device will alleviate the issue - I use FreePIE on my smartphone with Opentrack, and found that I basically didn't notice the bars at all after a while.
I am feeling that this cockpit is made as a balancing factor to this ship.
I've flown FDL for 2 days and I like its hardpoints, the fact that it is the only medium shield tank ship (Python is not a medium ship), the speed, the flying style.
But...
This cockpit is wrong on so many levels. Flying this ship makes me feel like I've suffered Joker's pencil trick not a while ago (it's not lethal, google it).
Jokes aside, I've might have come up with an explanation of why this ship is cockpit-locked for some people.
My lead eye is the left one, and because of that, my right eye moves according to it. Left eye doesn't meet any obstacles in its field of view, but right one gets blocked by this right beam too much, thus causing subliminal discomfort. I'm no expert though.
I couldn't even figure if fight vector is parallel to the forward view.
This becomes even worse with any FoV setting other than the default, as canopy beams structure highlights unnatural view cone very clearly.
I really couldn't get used to it. All I've achieved by trying to is worsened right eye sight for a couple of days.
Of all vehicles I've ever been inside of, this ship's cockpit is first for me to cause such issues. I have no problems flying Python, Clipper, Cutter, Cobra and even Adder.
And I've read about many more CMDRs describing similar impressions. I'm not trying to dramatize anything, but if you feel that best PvP ship in the game being literally unusable by a lot of people is not a big deal, I do not agree.
Also, I might add that when I flip screenshot with cockpit horizontally, it stills looks weird but does not cause any uncomfortable sensations.
Either alternative cockpit layouts or alternative to FDL copycat spinoff Alliance ship same as Chieftain for FAS should be added to the game.
*grumpily sitting here* ...am I the only one that LIKES the cockpit? It feels more real to me. Those bars are there to strengthen the glass! ITS A COMBAT SHIP! [mad] Performance before beauty!
And, hilariously enough, the conda only has 40 ton on the base hull mass of the python... stretching that much metal around that high a volume... repairs should be cheap as hell, unless popsicle sticks and aluminum foil are banned...I had an FDL. The cockpit is super weird but you can get used to it with time. Took me a bit.
But they Python IS a medium ship. It goes on a medium pad. The Python is only 6 meters longer and wider than the FDL, with essentially the same height. When we’re talking about ships that are nearly 100 meters long, that’s not all that massive a difference. Noticeable to be sure, but not massive.
By comparison a large ship like thof Conda, is more than 50% longer than either of those, and more than twice as tall.

Turn on the mouse widget and offcentre cockpits become a lot less irritating.
I'd buy different cockpit layouts from the store.

I fly with KB+M atm, my cheap HOTAS have too much deadzones to it to aim with fixed weapons, especially with FA OFF sometimes.
And yes, alternative cockpits' implementation is the one of solutions. Dont care if I have to pay or not (unless they will cost 50$ or something). Saying that it becomes a P2W aspect is agreeing on the fact that the current cockpit is not good.
And btw, quite alot of ships could use some alternative cockpits (like without wires sticking out like this ship was stolen to be sold to you for 140 mil base cost).
I hate the off center FDL cockpit, and it's one of the reasons I don't fly it.
I'd rather be seated centrally, with the copilot behind or infront, or off center (I don't care, why does the FDL need a copilot anyway?)
All the other off center cockpits don't bother me, just the FDL.
There's an option to put a dot in your HUD . You will forget about the lack of simetry in time
Please read the op.
Also I fail to understand how leisure yacht seat coupled with rudimentary WW2 counter fighter canopy, the one which is better suited for centerline pilot placement at that, adds to combat performance.
After all the nerfs, Python could be flown only like big ships do (by flying backwards and trading hits). Opposite from Clipper, which is flown like a medium ship. And it's just that I had read somewhere that Python is counted as a big ship by some internal in-game parameters, but I can't find that info atm somehow.
My point is that FDL while being best PVP ship, and having no alternatives with similar characteristics, being impossible to fly for some people is not ok.
