Assassinate Terrorist Leader Wing Missions...

Played a couple of these with a friend...it was quite fun.

We boosted away and took out the wing before we concentrated on the main target.

The problem we had, even with both of us in moderately engineered FDLs we had a tough time taking down the Cutters shields, it was doing the chaff and scb dance over and over. Took way longer than it should have. Yes I know one of us should have equipped rails with cascade whatsit but neither of us have those available.

Still it was quite enjoyable and we had to really focus fire and take turns in attracting the aggro.

I'll be positive for once.
Yes. This Wing mission is indeed good.

I had one with 5 or 6 FDL, vultures etc and the main target was an engineered 'Vette.
Took it's wing mates down, I was down to one ring on my shield.
I'm in a moderately engineered Corvette myself, and it's weapons just would not break the shields of the target. Had to ram it to take the shields down.

Actually a challenging yet achievable task :)

I vote for that, anything where I try it, have to run away and think about it before returning to victory is what I want.

Exactly. Great minds think alike. First time, I went in the Chieftain before I'd finished engineering it, highly over confident. Got my keister handed to me. Limped home and had a think. Hour or so and a few tweaks to the FGS later, and I was limping home again, but this time with a victory cigar of the finest onionhead in my gob. lol.

This was my main reason for using the FGS for this. 5 overchargde MCs and 2 small feedback railguns. The MCs make short work of everything except the shield cells on the main target and the rails take care of that, makes a big difference. :)

Good point.
Why did "my" targets shields never go down?
Well it's because I've never needed Feedback railguns.

Something making me change the way I play? for the GOOD???? Bravo!

It's getting pretty tired and old buddy. The Devs put these missions in for a reason. They are well received and should be expanded upon in the future.

So did the mining and skimmer missions. I bet "rebalancing" is on the way.
I still miss the good old long range smuggling missions where i was circling the bubble to pick up the most juicy ones. Those were fun too..

I've done quite a lot of these missions since 3.0 arrived, both as part of a wing and on my own.

Great idea, a bit more worthy opponents than the usual run-of-the-mill NPCs, flying engineered ships and all that.
These missions would be really fun to do, were it not for the tons of bugs infesting them, with the most annoying one being the 'cannot drop into my wingmate's low wake' issue.

For instance the other day I winged up with one of my favourite BHer wingmates. We decided to earn some G5 mats so we picked up a few of these missions and then headed off to a nearby system.

The first mission went kinda flawlessly, not counting the not game- (only immersion) breaking bug when both wingmates find a separate mission USS for the same mission. The 2 frag-FASs we were flying melted all NPCs in the mission USS within a minute, as it was quite predictable.

We both had about 50% ammo left, so we decided to share another mission without handing in the already accomplished one. I was the first to find the mission USS, pretty much as soon as I got close enough to the a giant planet where we were sent to, so I dropped in. My wingmate was about 5000 kms behind me in SC. I scanned the mission target (which is kinda stupid: why do I have to wait for the scan result of a known criminal? - but that's a different story), then opened fire. The target happened to be in one of those SCB-spamming Cutters, so I knew I wasn't going to be able to kill him without my wingmate, but he simply was not able to make it into my low wake (no matter what he was trying to target, my wake or my wing beacon signal).

The game insisted on dropping him into normal space somewhere above the far side of the planet instead of the vicinity of the ongoing battle.

Having run out of ammo I had to leave the my target behind with 50% hull when his mega-shield finally came back online.
We went back to the station to restock. I also changed ship and got in my Vulture, partly for a little bit more challenge, but mainly because its two fixed pulse lasers don't need ammo.

And the same happened again. I was fighting with the Cutter guy and his henchmen (you can imagine how long it took my wretched lasers to bring down the FDL, the Cobra and the Vipers and then to chew through the bazillion MJ shield and god knows how many hitpoints of hull of the Cutter), while all my wingmate could do was trying to drop near me, find himself on the far side of the planet, go all the way round the gas giant, then rinse and repeat.

Any chance of getting a working wing mechanism, FDev? Pretty please?

I miss Wanted Passenger missions where the Station itself would destroy you if were scanned. Now just the Security Ships attack. Bring those back.

Getting those guys into a Planetary Settlement was tense and fun. More challenging gameplay not less.

Wing Assassinations, Cyclops & Basilisks show me we are heading in the right direction.

Those missions were fun. Fun is subjective. Those missions were also paying out more per hour than anything in ED history. That is objective.
The new wing assassination missions are fun. They are not paying out rediculous amounts of money.

They are difficult for solo, but a nice challenge for experienced players with engineering. If you aren't able to solo it... well its a wing mission. Get a wing. No reason to ever nerf or buff anything about these. Payouts are pretty balanced based on difficulty. +1 Rep to Fdev for hitting the nail on the head with these.

Yes me and my wingmates had this problem allmost everytime.

I agree.

I've lost a Gunship, an Anaconda, and a Corvette so far to these missions, with no successes yet, but they are fun to try! I just wish I hadn't forgotten to swap out the NPC crewmate I liked on the first attempt; lost to the void. :(

I'm nowhere close to being a hot shot pilot, but hopefully with a little bit more engineering on the Corvette (using some of Cmdr Ultra's suggestions from a different thread), I will prevail.
