Newcomer / Intro Instant death in 3.0

Yessir, but my "test strategy" was just to see if I could be invisible so they'd leave. Sorry, should have clarified that. I'm at the point where I'll try anything! I spend hours getting my rep up with factions just so I could get decently paying missions that don't involve combat, since I suck. I'm also a white knight that won't take on illegal or strike missions, so these salvage missions were my bread and butter. I have a 988,000CR one sitting in my bucket, and it kills me (literally) that I can't complete it. This is detracting from my "Python fund". :D

Go and do the Road to Riches, which will get you 10 mil per hour. It's relatively boring, totally safe, and you'll soon have your Python.

That's kinda funny, did a little research and we are both involved in the past topics. It seems it was the Experimental effects that had been removed. Makes sense though, I was wondering why I would never see any experimental except on other Cmdr ships.
This is the key, I think: there are no longer any experimental effects, only special effects that can be bought with materials, some of which are rather common.

My current opinion is that even mid-ranked ships now have some degree of engineering, and that the higher ranks now have a few specials. I fought a deadly Vulture in my DBS just today; it definitely had stronger shields than a pre-3.0 ship of that rank and nature - I had two c1 rails and 2 c2 PACs on my ship, and I wasn't really denting the shields (I wasn't missing either). It took 3 sysauth Vipers and me to get the shields down.

Those that have been experimenting with the new engineering know that you can do some hilariously overpowered combinations that make super-shields. My bet is post-patch, a few NPCs are getting a lucky RNG roll for booster + shields engineered to make them much tougher to get down to hull. So my bet a lot of this is oversight with the new combinations that engineering can yield and some really lucky NPC's are resulting as an unintended side-effect.

I can say it appears the NPC "gankers" have been adjusted recently. I took several salvage (rare-art and black box) in my battle-conda in hopes of getting jumped... all "Elite" ranked missions and did not see a single jump-in doing about 20 of these Elite missions in three systems.

I also then went into some shady systems and chased USS's- I didn't get attacked or interdicted.

Maybe they fear the battle-conda? lol. I think I'll try an unengineered sidewinder next. :D

i can imagine any NPC that sports "short range" modded weapons, poses a serious threat to any unengineered ship out there -> and that it before adding experimentals.
75% increased damage PA and Rails....
