Why screw with our way to make money?

I just want to rank up , i'm after a Cutter , then i'll go out into the black and never be seen again , keep your money issues , I just want the ranks , then be dammed with the game i'll be outta here =-)

Wow, $14mil for a one-jump delivery?

I mean, how are we even supposed to feed our crew for that?!?

My profit ratio for the past few months is currently at 5:1 (baby, one and five...) and that's with basing activities on "what sounds interesting right now" with little or no regard for cash reward.

I don't know, but I've always played the game this way for just over a year, and have ovee $1bn in total assets.

Never understood the 'we can't make money" crowd.

Its showing that it is very possible to make more money in this game than you can sensibly spend - as it stands . You just need to apply yourself - this is 3 different factions - there will be more, I'm just occupied in a CZ

Theres only really one way to make that kind of money, and thats those missions. Most of the rest of the game lacks that kinda profits for time spent.

So the game is ok just as long as every player takes 180t paladium missions? I dont think thats healthy

I think we could do with expanding these type of rewards into other activities.

not to bash on your earlier post, and the current. However I would say that you are in the wrong here... Why? Because this is a game, doesn't matter who, or how you play, if something is wrong, and the majority of the community is agreeing with that, or a large part of the community, then it is the game, not the individual.

As you clearly stated that this game isn't intended for a certain crowd of people, gota stop viewing people as individuals, but rather a part of a community.

I can't help thinking that if all you can find to do is make money, then this probably isn't a good choice of game for you.

Though its way too easy to make more money than you know what to do with already. Its lost all sense of value.

Sure, acquiring money at a higher rate in the game can lose it's sense of value, but with up coming faction ships like battle cruisers, I do not want to know how much they will cost in the near future. Also would like to point that it is clear that the economy in the game is inflated, I mean look at the guardian mod's.

So yeah flying in CZ's is fine n' all, but not everybody wants to be in that role, some are here just to collect ships, others do it for the content, I however prefer a mix of the two.

If anything, you as a Mod, should be promoting people to play more, and enjoy what is in the game, not discouraging them... Just sayin.

Much as I love the odd gamewavium pot of gold rush glee, I want them to keep it in the land of exploity type gray area and keep playing their whack a mole game with the bugs of fix one, another three pops up and gives a whole new meaning to one step forward, two back.

Why? Simple really...such instances of incredible good fortune do happen from time to time in real life and like it or not, or agree or not, rules and laws are perhaps bent a wee bit...not broken just sorta bent and stretched a bit. Keeping something illegal and taboo and against the rules merely drives the desire to do it in some cases...gives the payout a sweeter taste when ye know its forbidden fruit...

Some players seem to think its about the amount of credits someone has or maybe they just skint and want more to play the game their way, but cant cos the grind, oh mary sweet mother of jesus the grind...like silver and garlic to Christopher Lee in his prime.

One could have billions or tens of billions and the payout would still be sweet because now as opposed to it being something one needs, it has in itself become a sport...games within games.

The novelty alone now has made them more popular and more in demand than ever by both those who are in genuine need of a little cash boost...like yours truly fer instance...now and then...Im weak willed and easily led officer...I take me orders directly from the mothership but dont let on I said anything...Im incognito...not thats not my superhero names, its a word I heard in a james bond movie once when they let me watch tv again fer good behaviour...

Role play in itself is and always has been the very defintion of playing games within games...a point which will sadly go right over the heads of about half the players here which is sorta sad in a way. And they did say they were trying to appeal to those who enjoy playing the criminal...no wait...ye thought criminals played fair and by the rules? Wouldnt that sorta defeat the purpose?

Think about it...what do those with money have? The desire to have more...thats why they got rich in the first place funnily enough...now what? They just give up because they achieved what they wanted? Well thats very noble of them, give them a big shiny medal and salute...however, this aint pistols at dawn nor is this what ye might call an officially military sanctioned outfit...ye bring a pistol and Ill bring a quad barrelled rocket launcher with mini nuke upgrades fer 500 frontier points a shot...cmon...ye know its coming sooner or later why fight it?

The thirst always wins...the desire to have more doesnt fade...criminals dont just make their fortune and buy a shack on some island and live out their days soul searching. They wouldnt be criminals then, would they, they would be idealists and dreamers...criminals are the ones being criminal and doing criminal stuff in a game...I know...its a very harsh but brutally true fact that criminals do criminal things...I didnt believe it meself at first but there it is...

The game wants to appeal to those who truly appreciate a crime and punishment system which would appeal to certain mindsets that enjoy bending rules and doing illegal things they not supposed to do...the more illegal it is, the sweeter the payday.

What exactly did players think would happen when this game started to cater fer that style of gameplay? Ye think those who bend the rules should stop bending and play the criminal honestly?

Ye know how absolutely thick as two short planks such a person would have to be to so much as suggest that? Really? People are really that naive? I dunno whether to laugh or cry...possibly both at this rate ^

I'm saying that making money is pretty much the purpose of the game - get money, buy/improve ship.

Apart from gather mats for those engineers, that is. To improve that ship.

So, of course they 'screw' with the way to make money, cos that is their 'game'. Make it too easy and pfffff, game gone.

Sorry I thought you were asking a question, can't think what gave me that idea.

Not strictly true. I accrued billions so that I could indulge in combat. I only care about the pew pew side. I want to kill thargoids, not mine. I want to kill wanted peeps not trawl on planets in a dune buggy. Trading is for hanseatic league members, I want to murder the infidels. Space uber interests me not, show me a haz res full of battle!

However, to do this you need oodles of money. Since I have a good few hundred million, an A spec python, A spec Vulture and an A spec corvette (thanks to the recent rep missions) I can get on with the parts of the game that interest me and not be railroaded into parts that don't. Maybe some people like honking all over the galaxy - good for you! Enjoy your game! Not me though. Maybe some people like space uber jobs ferrying passengers - good for you! Enjoy your game! Not me though. Perhaps others like to cart cargo holds chock full of slaves - good for you! Enjoy your game! Not me though. And to those who say "this game isn't for you"; well you are wrong! I *love* the combat, it is great, I really enjoy it therefore OBVIOUSLY this is the game for me!

I know of few other games that are so diverse but FORCE you to play parts you don't like (well, perhaps in WOT there are tanks that are truly and you have to grind through them I suppose; however there are ways around that with a wallet if you truly don't want to).

name them. make a top10 what you did today. should be easy.

1. I flipped a fed system to communist
2. I triggered an expansion into a system we have been after for a year
3. I finally got hold of some tungsten so I can upgrade my armour on the T10 I bought a month ago
4. I needed about 50 systems of explo data so I went here with my alt account https://media.discordapp.net/attach...26682431488/unknown.png?width=1340&height=671
5. I took a new comrade out mining and we filled up on Painite at 120k a ton.... and I had 50 tons
6. I updated about 5% od the 200+ systems in our bubble.
7. I.m currently experimenting with a support ship - healing lazers and repair impets in a CZ
8. I need to complete 3 black box missions to avoid an issue in one of our systems
9. I tried to make contact with a player faction that we have run into on the edge of our sphere - hoping to come to an agreement
10.I'm planning on visiting materials traders to redistribure my portfolio of materials... but I guess that can wait

You don't need oodles of money for combat.

The FDL is about 120,000,000cr A rated, with a rebuy of 6,000,000cr.

You can make 6+m/CR an hour bounty hunting. And if you're losing more than 1 FDL an hour, or even a session, heck, a month, you're doing something very very wrong. :D

Intentional combat is also one of the lower risk activities, believe it or not.
You're usually well outfitted, and expecting it. No surprises, no panic.
Combat pilots have it easy. :D

Now that I've completed the onerous part of the rank grinds for both the Fed and the Empire: Everything I do earns both credits and Mats now.
Just bought a Cutter (A.I.S. Kaywinnet Lee Frye) and am now working on getting it equipped/engineered. - Have already started enjoying her massive cargo hold ;).
While some seem to be obsessed with the credits per hour earning rush: All I can say is I earn credits...per hour...and enough to be able to buy the things I need at a pace I deem more than adequate.
Heck: I did some simple Boom Missions before work today and came away with 12 million while hitting several USS's along the way...works for me.

You've seen things that other people can only dream of. :)

But why bother getting past a cobra then? To fly about doing the same things again and again and again?

At least the credit grind gives it a purpose. As shallow as it may be.

The problem here is difficult to express. Most of the time, I'm actually in something like a Cobra.

Yes, you can go about earning credits, and make that a goal. But this isn't pinball scores. (Even pinball isn't about the score, but about the flow.)

What Elite gives us, is a place to play. You make up your own story. It's the ultimate RPG, because it is mostly unscripted.
Remember when you were little and pretended to be a fireman, with a hat and an axe and a hose? Well, here you get to be a Merc, or a Gunrunner, or a Passenger Ship captain, or a fighter pilot, or a Smuggler, or a Trucker, or a Pirate, or a Bounty Hunter, or--- well you name it.

The most fun I had recently was doing Ambulance Driver, pulling refugees out of burning stations in my DBX. I engineered it to be super cold, to take the heat. Not to make $. It was purpose built for a role. Now, the stations are out of danger, and mission complete - so what would a rescue pilot with a super cold ship do when the money dries up?
Yep, turn to crime.
I am now moving shady people out of scummy stations before the Law catches them, or me. Remember when Obi Wan hired Han? Yep, that's me now.

But if you are playing yourself in your chair at home, looking to make a big score, it will suck.
You know why? Because our lives sometimes suck. Reality sucks.
That's why we play. Or drink. Or go to movies.

Be somebody else for a little while. That's partly what the game is about.

Or just fly out into the nihilistic black, and be alone with the grandeur of the galaxy.
I like being solitary, in a small ship, surrounded by vastness, sometimes in silence, or with music.

Elite is a set of tools that we can use to suit ourselves. It's a game, but arguably, one of the best, most flexible ones ever made.
