FD, admit it: you cannot fix navy rank\invite\permit missions.

The entire procedurally generated mission board needs to be torn down and reworked from the ground up.

I hope you aren't suggesting hand-crafted missions.....'cause that is something I just couldn't get behind. The Procedural Generation system is good-as a starting point-but does need significant improvement across the board, so that payouts match the amount of effort required by the mission.

If it were up to me, all Navy Missions would be removed to either their own board, or a new "Faction" within the Mission Board (I'd prefer the former)....& I would do the same with Wing Missions too. The only way to gain rank with a Navy would be to do Naval missions....just as it was in previous iterations of Elite.

Changed my original post to reflect the change in yours:)

Not that i agree with any of it though...

Could Navy rank/invite/permit missions made clearer? Most definitely. Had it not been broken straight out of the gate, the "follow up mission" idea would have been a step in the right direction, and it shows that Frontier are putting at least some thought into these missions.

As for difficulty, it's already easy enough - players piloting Imperial Cutters or Federal Corvettes are hardly a rare sight.

Well, I'm keeping the childish bits as well as the software development logic cos sometimes problems seem way less annoying when everyone just lightens up somewhat :D

I dont think its much of a problem yet myself, but i dont think theres much point coming into a thread and being antagonistic.

The mission board is going through a lot of tweeks currently,i think it will settle down alright.

It usually does, not too long after release of the major content update that caused the outrage. Happened before, bound to happen again. Find a bug, report it in as much detail as possible so FDev can reproduce it at their end and resolve it and then go mess with some other part of the game and see if you can break that too...

Rinse, repeat, but DO please report ONE bug at a time, on the appropriate forum / form ;)

Seriously though, squealing and squawking in FDev's face is hardly a productive activity...

I'd be lying if I said my initial reaction wasn't, "People want military rank for nothing? What is this, the US Air Force?"

*Yes, Air Force guys, that would be considered shots fired.

I was Air Force for 10 years. I had to work for a living flying around in a RPG magnet, so watch your tongue!

Since these missions first appeared, they were a huge PITA for both players and FD programmers. The former constantly faced spawn problems and had to relog for missions to appear; sometimes it required several hours of relogging. The latter had to try and find a fix for all the problems associated with RNG nature of mission board.

3.0.3 was the final straw. You failed, FD, and failed spectacularly.

There is only proven way to fix all the problems with rank\invite\permit missions: Remove them and make navy ranks, permits and engineer invites work like Pilots Federation ranks and Shinrarta Dezhra permit. Which means automatically.

It's a win-win situation. We get simple, logical and uniform system for everything rank-related, and you eliminate a major problem that plagued ED from the very start. Please, pretty please, pretty please with cherry on top, stop clinging to a bad design decision and make this thing right.

Agreed. A simple and easy solution IMO

As someone with 19 years service with the Navy, I'm contractually obligated to make fun of the Air Force every chance that presents itself. It's in the enlistment oath, I checked. :D

One thing i would miss slightly if they became automatic would be seeing how far into the next rank when you get one after being at 100% of the previous rank for awhile.

The elation when it ticks over and its already at 89% and the agony if it ticks over and is at 11%:p

For me, it's not about Ease or Difficulty.....its about making the Military Progression part of the game its own separate Career Path. Decouple Rank almost entirely from Super-Power Rep (higher ranks might require you to remain Friendly or even Allied to one Super-Power), & instead make it more like how we gain Faction Rep. Each mission pushes us up a bit higher towards our next rank. Which would be obtained either automatically or by maybe doing a special Chained Rank-up Mission.

It would be nice, too, if gaining rank with one Navy made it harder to gain rank with the others.....but that is just a personal preference.

Be careful what you ask for. This would be a moderate change. Can you think of a single time FD made a moderate or significant change without some bug cropping up? I'm thoroughly convinced that they're incapable of doing a bug free fix.

It'll go something like this...

You take a mission that says one of the choices is +++ rep. You complete the mission and that choice suddenly changes to 3 Modular Terminals. Something similar has actually happened before. Mission rewards have changed after you took them. It's a real thing.

And while they're "fixing" it, they'll likely come up with some whacky idea that they think would add to gameplay. Maybe adding space junk in front of every star so you take critical damage every time you come out of witchspace.

As a member of any of the other branches I am obligated to say something about a Navy member that would get me tarred/feathered and banned from the forum.....

It is a shared brotherhood across the branches....
