The narrow scoped solution is to remove solo/PG from PP/BGS. It’s not a solution that solves platforms, p2p, or instancing. And it’s one that radically changes the foundation of the game that was funded by the people. It radically changes the foundation of what the game is being sold and marketed as today.
The fact that true PvPers would rather engage in objective based gameplay and avoid direct PvP is telling. It means that the objective is more important to them than the direct PvP gameplay. They have the choice to avoid the gameplay that they supposedly love. You all could run optimal in Open but you choose not to. It’s a choice. You could counter everyone in solo/PG, but you choose not to. The entirety of this discussion centers around the fact that you would rather pew pew than run current objective based gameplay. And in a free for more pew pews, you need more people. In order to get more people, you would like to force Open play. It’s clear. And that’s why fabricating evidence and grasping at straws to support it is met with such stern opposition.
IMO, it's not the "true" PvPers that want to force players into Open. Most PvPers are happily doing PvP, organizing tournaments, cruising CGs for
combat ready ships, or even doing Powerplay and BGS work in Open, without needing
any kind of bonus for doing so. The ones wanting to force more players into Open, by restricting much of this game's content to that mode, is a certain subset of player who
need players who don't enjoy PvP to be
their content, but are unwilling to be the content of others in return.
I've been playing this game since Alpha, most of it in Open, and I've never needed any bonus to do Powerplay
or BGS work in Open. I simply find the
potential for player opposition makes the experience more fun. I also prefer it if players play in Open of their own free will, because I'd rather not waste my time
or theirs by attacking someone who isn't willing to play with
me when I'm in the mood to go marauding. PvP is at its best when
both sides are willing. Forcing players into Open to be targets for others is PvP at its worst.
edit:
Oh crapper! I forgot my quotations! It was meant to read “true PvPers” in a vein of sarcasm. Punctuation means things!
Indeed it does. A misplaced comma can cause a catastrophe.
