Anyone else think this is going to be a monumental let down?

If thirty is "poor" how do you justify that statement?

I mean there were eleven dinosaurs in the 1993 film (only five of which you saw), there were ten dinosaurs in Lost World, fourteen species in J3 (two of which you didn't see) and sixteen in Jurassic World (of thirty four mentioned), so to my point of view, having thirty dinosaurs at launch this game puts the feature films to shame. Also, as I understand it you can "edit the DNA incorporating modern-day species" to create your own breeds of dinosaur, so that is thirty base-species with who knows how many variants.

I have no idea on what you've based your expectations, but it isn't any other dinosaur park game; Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals had fifteen dinosaurs, Operation Genesis, one of the best games in this genre had twenty five species of dinosaur in total. So if this game will be "a total let down" based on such a metric as quantity of dinosaurs, then no game will ever make you happy.

Agreed. 30 is more than enough to begin with. As long as the most important/known dinosaurs are in!

I love Jurassic Park and any other dinosaur game, I am generally positive when it comes to these games because there is so little of them for us to actually enjoy. They are clearly passionate about dinosaurs and the franchise so I have good faith that they will bring out the beauty of the very concept we all love guys. Whether we want feathers or not lets just enjoy the magic that this game will definitely provide and judging so far of all the videos I've watched, Frontier has definitely captured that.

I say, "sure, put in T-rex and Triceratops" but then give us some dinosaurs that haven't been seen in mainstream media yet. Give us Crylophosaurus with it's head decoration, Nasutoceratops with its almost bovine-like horns, Amargasaurus with its massive back spikes and sail....

I never played JPOG. Or many games from Frontier besides Zoo Tycoon. So i'm going to be happy with this game either way!

I think this is the healthiest approach to the whole thing.
Hyping is bad and leads to disappointment. Premature doomsaying (however based on valid concerns) can spoil the game before it even comes out.

It's just a game. Will it be everything we want it to be? Of course not. Will it be a great modern builder/manager with dinosaurs? Oh yeah. :)

Until the game actually comes out, this is pure speculation.

If you have an attitude that you will be disappointed, you will be, but that isn't the games fault.

The only thing I found curious is that even though there are many gameplay hands-on videos, basically everybody has the same park in the end because

a) All players get the exact same missions / progression (research this, incubate that, build this),

b) There are really no customizable elements.

Aesthetically what made me a little bit puzzled is that the game uses only the green and grey color palettes (the scenery is green, the buildings are grey). In a high-tech theme park I'd love to see more color. Not to the extent of Planet Coaster, of course, but some decoration, attractive buildings, themed/wooden attractions, even separate attractions like mascots playing with children, gift shops, underwater attractions (just like in Jurassic World), etc. I hope these will be in the game. Remember, Frontier made Zoo Tycoon, too, and it was a really varied and fun game.

I have no doubts about the gameplay, I really like what I've seen so far. I do hope we'll have the opportunity to build more varied parks, and have a completely free sandbox mode as well.

I agree! We are still about 10 weeks away(yes, that close) from release and I'm positive Frontier will do the best they can until we get there. Hopefully they scroll through our comments and look at our perspectives/wishes and then decide, because they know what their options are. For us, it will be a wait and see !

What I've noticed is that the first island appears to be tutorial island, which is what everyone is playing. Seems understandable for everyone to play mostly the same, as it's the tutorial.

This late in development they will be fixing bugs and optimizing. Any additional content will follow post-launch.

Personally I expect a fun management game with a bunch of dinos. I dont expect it to entertain me forever or be a perfect, in the end its just a game. :)

IMO - Fdev do not do management type games very well. They rely on RNG far too much to fill the gaps.

In reality everything happens for a reason and nothing is RNG generated. The best management games have sufficient linkage, cause and effect etc... to create the feeling of immersion that seems to hide the RNG that is inevitably there (you cant create every scenario in every situation).

FDev got quite close initially with the BGS in Elite Dangerous but then tinkered with it sufficiently, to make it feel like a grind rather than a rewarding long term experience. Planet Coaster is all about the creativity now and not the "Best Park Management Simulation ever produced" that I thought I was sold (I must have misheard them - my fault then)

JWE? - we will see, but I have my doubts about the management part TBH.

Edit: that said they (FDev) are brilliant at the arts side of things sound, graphical representation etc...

Anyway interested to send a petition to them? If the game cannot be changed then perhaps DLC can improve it later on? I am not even sure the dev are reading this! :(

I think the biggest let down for me is the playable area. It was confirmed on one if the streams that the actual playable area on each park was very small. This is going to be the next Simcity if FD are not careful.

Add that to the insane price (£50 for digital) , for me I'm pretty disappointed in all honesty. PC was like £30 when it launched and was far better value for money as far as I can see.

Just being honest.

I have been here for a while and they will have noted what you have said, they might disagree of course (but you will never know).

Agreed.

I can't see any reason why they're limiting with map size.

The tutorial island has huge chunks blocked out.

I don't see this as a problem at all. It's an island. How would you go about providing unlimited area?
Plus it adds an interesting challenge of managing available space properly.

(and on top of that, the tutorial island is tiny, reserve your judgement for once you've seen the other ones)
